Pacific Grove House Rental Photos and Description
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5
‘I bought a small house and garden in Pacific Grove...' writes John Steinbeck in April 1941 in a letter addressed to a friend (from John Steinbeck: A Life in letters). This property was owned by him in the early 1940's,
This darling home, known as The Steinbeck Cottage, has a beautiful living room with a tent cathedral ceiling. It's focal point is the fireplace, richly adorned with carvings of birds and flowers. It has a queen sleeper sofa, a love seat, two reading chairs and a flat screen TV. There is a large bedroom, accommodating a queen bed, a sitting area with a twin sleeper sofa, flat screen TV and a cozy electric fireplace. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to enjoy cooking and dining in. The dining room has a farm table and is surrounded by floor to ceiling picture windows, overlooking the garden and offering peaks of the bay. The beautiful bathroom features white subway tiles in the shower and blue Moroccan lantern tiles on the floor. The front yard offers an outdoor sitting area with a fire pit for conversation and warmth. The cottage has cable TV and wireless internet and is approximately 900 square feet.
It is original architecture from 1913 and has short doorways throughout the cottage. Taller guests will need to mind their heads when passing through the rooms.
Downtown Pacific Grove, which is home to countless restaurants, shops, and the famous Lover's Point, is a short half mile away. Just steps outside the door of the cottage is a walking path that leads straight down the hill to The Monterey Bay Aquarium, also a mere half mile away.
It is one of three cottages on the property. For larger groups, The Steinbeck Cottage can be rented with The Writer's Studio and/or The Traveler's Cottage on the same property.

About Kevin Delaney
I have lived in California for most of my life and have always loved the coast. It has been a dream of mine to own a little beach house someday. That dream became a reality in 2102 when I was fortunate enough to find this treasure of a property in the beautiful small beach town of Pacific Grove.
Kevin Delaney purchased this house in 2012
Why Kevin Delaney chose Pacific Grove
This property is rich in character and history. The cottages on the property have a feel of days gone by, with thoughtful architectural touches and details that speak to the period. The tranquil garden brings about a sense of peace, and one can't help but feel relaxed in its presence. When you come away to the cottage, I hope that you are immersed in its serenity and charm.
What makes this house unique
The historical aspect of the property was a huge draw for me as well. The cottages on the property are about 100 years old. I love that it was once owned by John Steinbeck, and often imagine him walking around this property, being inspired by its beauty and serenity. I am a huge Steinbeck fan!
When he was away from this home, staying in New York, he wrote to his friend who was living here at the time, 'It is a pleasant little house, and we miss it...You'll find you get a lot of thinking done in that house.' (from John Steinbeck, A Life in Letters).
