Maastricht is an old fortified medieval city, which is nowadays known as most culinary city of The Netherlands. The town has the most café’s and restaurants per capita. It is, just like Amsterdam, very popular among foreign visitors. Maastricht has several one and two Michelin star restaurants.
The recently opened Mosae Gusto in the old vaulted cellars under the market square houses a treasure of culinary shops and restaurants. The many beautiful and fancy shops in the centre of Maastricht are certainly worth a visit.
You can go for an adventurous walk along the old city walls of the city, or take a boat trip on the river to Liege or outlet city Lanaken (both in Belgium).On the river opposite the house there are extensive water sport facilities and several harbors for small boats. In the area around Maastricht you’ll find beautiful golf courses.
The surrounding area is hilly with picturesque villages hidden in the green where you’ll find pleasant restaurants.
