Our three holiday apartments are set in a magnificent, historical, privately-owned villa, situated in the heart of Positano, a 10 minutes walk to the village centre. The terraces offer one of the most beautiful views over the sea and the village. The site, surrounded by orchards and gardens, assures a quiet and relaxing stay. The extraordinarily thick walls keep the interior pleasantly cool during the summertime. We offer arrangements from 2 to 12 persons. The landlord speaks English, French, German and Italian. Positano, one of the slow towns in Italy, is ideally situated on the Amalfi Coast for visiting many of fascinating and interesting tourist destinations The wonderful islands of both Capri and Ischia may be reached by boat from Positano and historical Pompeii is approximately an hour away, either by car, or from Sorrento, by train. From Amalfi it is a short drive up to the magical town of Ravello, with Villa Cimbrone and its wonderful garden.

Tosca is a spacious apartment (100 square meters, 1000 square feet) in the first floor of the Villa. The spacious living room with high vaulted ceilings is divided by an open arch in the fashion of classical Mediterranean architecture, elegantly furnished with two sofas (one of which can unfold into a double bed), an elegant dining table with six, period chairs, and two armchairs. Terrace (20 square meters, 180 square feet) with a beautiful view over Positano, the beach and the gulf, completely equipped with four garden chairs, table, and two deck chairs. The two stylish bathrooms, one furnished with a modern designer bath tub, the other with a Jacuzzi shower, are both decorated with original hand painted Vietri tiles. The price quoted is fully inclusive, there are no 'add ons' such as final cleaning, electricity etc, these are all included in the price

Positano, the jewel of Italy’s Amalfi Coast, clings by a miracle to a mountainside down to the still Mediterranean Sea – a resort that attracts Europe’s beautiful people but retains its small-town charm. (Diana Georgeff, The Age 02/08/03). Positano is build like pyramids of colourful Mediterranean houses around the main beach and overlooks one of the worlds most beautiful bay. The small pedestrian streets around the main church build, with many shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes, the actual centre of the village. The regional food of the coastline uses mainly pasta, zucchini, fish, fresh buffalo mozzarella, lemons and olive oil. Most local restaurants take care to hang on to the traditions of cooking and the food will be presented with flair and without formality.

Car usage and transport: The use of a car in Positano is not recommended. On the inner road parking places are limited and reserved for residents. Private parking lots are available at approximately 20 Euro per day. You can park for free on certain areas on the National Road (Strada Nazionale). For the unloading of luggage you can stop the car at the top of Via Monte, the little stairway that leads to Casa San Matteo. Porter service can be requested. A regular bus service is available every 20 minutes. The bus stops at the top of Via Monte. It is possible to reach most places in Positano, including the beach, in a ten to fifteen minutes walk. We provide contact information for taxi booking. The price quoted for the apartment is 'all inclusive' there are no extras such as final cleaning, electricity etc to pay for.

Our stay in Positano was just wonderful, we enjoyed every moment of it and much thanks to John who looked after us so well, and was so helpful with his knowledge of the area. This apartment is spotless and a wonderful place to base yourself to see surounding areas (Sorrento, Capri and Amalfi are easily reached by ferry). The views are just breathtaking and you can just while away the hours taking it all in!!! Highly recommended!!
Owner's Response: We are pleased to be able to improve every year our offer in Casa San Matteo, although we well know that the magic is due to beautiful Positano and is wonderful surroundings. Having an English mother tongue (and very helpful) manager since this year was greatly appreciated by many of our guests from oversees.

This appartment is full of charm and charcter and catches sun on the balcony in the morning and provides wonderful views in the evening.
The accomodation was immaculate and well equiped and the housekeeper helpful but unobtrusive.
Those renting have the option of the challenging steps down to the town or making use of the frequent bus service nearby.
All in all great base for both Positano and the entire Amalfi coast

Once again thank you for a wonderful holiday in your great villa. This time we came back with 6 friends from Australia who have now fallen in love with the villa and Positano. They all agreed that the villa was well equipped, spacious and clean and the view from the terrace was spectacular.

What a wonderful house you have there...we truly love it, and hope that circumstances will allow us to stay there again in the future. (B.S., New York, NY, USA, July 2002) - Everything was wonderful when we stayed at Tosca in May. The view was spectacular from the terrace. We spent most evenings with a bottle of wine sitting on the terrace watching the lights go on around Positano. Having rented other places in Italy, as well as, England, we appreciated how clean our 'home' was. (Cathy Lusk, Austin, Texas, May 2002)
