Our three holiday apartments are set in a magnificent, historical, privately-owned villa, situated in the heart of Positano, a 10 minutes walk to the village centre. The terraces offer one of the most beautiful views over the sea and the village. The site, surrounded by orchards and gardens, assures a quiet and relaxing stay. The extraordinarily thick walls keep the interior pleasantly cool during the summertime. We offer arrangements from 2 to 12 persons. The landlord speaks English, French, German and Italian. Positano, one of the slow towns in Italy, is ideally situated on the Amalfi Coast for visiting many of fascinating and interesting tourist destinations The wonderful islands of both Capri and Ischia may be reached by boat from Positano and historical Pompeii is approximately an hour away, either by car, or from Sorrento, by train. From Amalfi it is a short drive up to the magical town of Ravello, with Villa Cimbrone and its wonderful garden.

Carmen is a spacious suite (50 square meters, 500 square feet) on the first floor of the Villa, consisting of a double vaulted room divided by an arch, a fine example of classical Mediterranean architecture. Two ample arched windows overlook the garden. It is elegantly furnished with a double bed, sleep couch, chairs, table, carpet and screen partition. The private terrace (12 square meters, 129 square feet) offers a beautiful view over Positano, the beach and the gulf and is equipped with a round table, two garden chairs and two deck chairs. The price quoted for the apartment is all inclusive, there are no'add ons' such as final cleaning,electricty etc, everything is included in the price.

Positano, the jewel of Italy’s Amalfi Coast, clings by a miracle to a mountainside down to the still Mediterranean Sea – a resort that attracts Europe’s beautiful people but retains its small-town charm. (Diana Georgeff, The Age 02/08/03). Positano is build like pyramids of colourful Mediterranean houses around the main beach and overlooks one of the worlds most beautiful bay. The small pedestrian streets around the main church build, with many shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes, the actual centre of the village. The regional food of the coastline uses mainly pasta, zucchini, fish, fresh buffalo mozzarella, lemons and olive oil. Most local restaurants take care to hang on to the traditions of cooking and the food will be presented with flair and without formality.

Car usage and transport: The use of a car in Positano is not recommended. On the inner road parking places are limited and reserved for residents. Private parking lots are available at approximately 20 Euro per day. You can park for free on certain areas on the National Road (Strada Nazionale). For the unloading of luggage you can stop the car at the top of Via Monte, the little stairway that leads to Casa San Matteo. Porter service can be requested. A regular bus service is available every 20 minutes. The bus stops at the top of Via Monte. It is possible to reach most places in Positano, including the beach, in a ten to fifteen minutes walk. We provide contact information for taxi booking. The price quoted for the apartment is 'all inclusive' there are no extras such as final cleaning, electricity etc to pay for.

Dit Paasweekend doorgebracht in Positano. De eerste keer aan de Amalfi kust en meteen verkocht voor het leven. Casa San Matteo is de perfecte locatie om een paar dagen te genieten van dit prachtige dorp of om zelfs voor langere tijd te verblijven. Het huis is van alle gemakken voorzien en uitstekend onderhouden. De locatie is uitmuntend, je kunt snel de drukte opzoeken en ´s nachts biedt het huis rust. Prijs-kwaliteit verhouding perfect. Ik beveel Casa San Matteo aan iedereen van harte aan.

Great location overlooking Positano in a modern fully equiped appartment. 10 mins walk from downtown off internal road.

Choice of carparks only 5 minutes walk down the internal road from top of steps or if without a car only a few minutes walk to the bus stop on internal road or to the SITA bus on the SS163 (beside the international bar).

First class customer service and advice from the housekeeper on where to get best value locally.

Would certainly reccomend to anyone planning on spending a few days in Positano.

Idyllic coastal romantic escape

The Villa was precisely as promised by our hospitable host, who could not do enough for us, both before our arrival and into our stay. Giovanni met us at the top of the stairs and assisted us with our bags. He took an obvious pride in the villa and spent time orientating us to the villa which was clean and serviced each day. Giovanni's pride extended to Positano and he happily shared his local knowledge on the eateries and places to shop and stock up on produce.
We enjoyed the cuisine at the local cafes followed by a bottle of Prosecco on the balcony each evening, when we were lucky enough to watch a firework display on a couple of nights with the sounds echoing throughout the town. It was also a great spot to set out for a wander around Positano, where we spent time in the many quality linen and shoe shops. We enjoyed the bus trip to Amalfi and another local bus trip on to Rovello.

I would recommend this property to any couple wanting a secluded escape but point out the need for reasonable fitness and good knees to cope with the many steps and sloping terrain.
Owner's Response: We at Casa San Matteo know that the main attraction is Positano with its beauty and its "dolce vita" life style, but don't forget that our guests like to be looked after with discretion and constant readiness. As the house owner, I am very pleased to know how well our English speaking manager/ housekeeper John (Giovanni) is capable to make our guests feel comfortable and relieve them from the unavoidable hustle caused by travelling in foreign countries. We are looking forward host you again in our wonderful Villa in Positano very soon.

Wonderful Apartment and Wonderful People!

My husband and I stayed at this apartment for a week, John, (the manager) was wonderful, gave us detailed instructions to get there and was there to greet us after a very long day of travelling.

The apartment is exactly as shown on the pictures only more charming in real life! The views were spectacular, and if the thought of 100 steps to the apartment seems a bit daunting, give it a try, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and we exercised some muscles we hadn't used in years. Besides most of the places to stay in Positano had steps to get there!

The apartment was very tidy and clean and we felt at home, yet on holidays there!

We would definately recommend this property to friends, and hope to get back there. John was always around when we needed him for advice and information, but always respected our privacy and wasn't in your face. The Manager is also speaks flawless english which was a huge plus! The locals in Positano were wonderful and friendly, and took care of us even when communication was a problem!

Can't wait to go back again.

What a wonderful house you have there...we truly love it, and hope that circumstances will allow us to stay there again in the future. (B.S., New York, NY, USA, July 2002) - Everything was wonderful when we stayed at Tosca in May. The view was spectacular from the terrace. We spent most evenings with a bottle of wine sitting on the terrace watching the lights go on around Positano. Having rented other places in Italy, as well as, England, we appreciated how clean our 'home' was. (Cathy Lusk, Austin, Texas, May 2002)
