Wonderful location and lodgings

Although having lived in Italy for a time many years ago and having made many visits there throughout my life, this was my first time to Positano. Two words-- absolutely stunning. From the relaxed atmosphere, to the incredible vistas, the beautiful beaches, and the food (can't forget that), it was truly fantastic. For anyone looking for that idyllic Mediterranean experience, this is the place. My only caveats are the tiny streets and car drivers who lack the Anglo-American appreciation for "rules of the road." Also, this is not an easy place to visit if you can't do steps. Although, I have to say that by the end of this trip I had lost a few pounds because of the steps despite the constant sampling of foods, wine, cafe stops and dinners. There is the option of public transportation but it seemed overcrowded. Also, many places (e.g., restaurants) have drivers to pick you up at your place and transport you back and forth to their restaurant at no cost. The proprietor of Casa San Mateo (Marco) was very helpful in making such arrangements.
Equally, the Casa San Mateo was an incredible find given the location, quality and cleanliness of the lodgings, generous space, and reasonable pricing. The terrace (where we spent most of our time) was nothing short of fantastic with a lovely combination of midday shade, an ocean breeze, and picture perfect vistas. The final and unexpected pleasure of this lodging is the proprietor (Marco) and the housekeeper (Maria Delores). They were truly invested in making sure that our stay was enjoyable. Besides his amiable personality, Marco was a wealth of practical and historical information that made the trip all the more enjoyable. And in the classical Italian way, Marco is apparently well regarded in the town and was able to pull off some impromptu dinner reservations that worked out very well. Additionally, Marco and Maria Delores are excellent cooks and we had them prepare a meal for us one evening that was served to us on the terrace--truly a culinary highlight of our trip. This was one of the best meals of our two weeks in Italy--which is no small feat. We were so impressed and enjoyed ourselves so much that we requested that they prepare another dinner for us on our last evening.
Overall, this was one of my favorite trips for all the reasons mentioned above and I highly recommend Positano, the Casa San Mateo, and the in-house dinner services offered by Marco. You won't be disappointed.
Owner's Response: Rocco caught in a few words the essential features of Casa San Matteo – Positano and our holiday rental services. We have put a great effort in creating the perfect atmosphere in our villa and offering to our guests the hospitality, kindliness and attention needed for a unique holiday experience. Once again we have achieved our main goal: assuring to our guests an enjoyable, pleasant and unforgettable stay in Positano.
