Baiersbronn in the northern Black Forest is famous for the best gourmet temples as well as being a ‘walker’s heaven’ with marvellous walker’s huts, and a fantastic family-friendly holiday resort. Tonbach with Traube-Tonbach is situated in the most beautiful valley of the whole district – with no through traffic. It is located on a peaceful, sunny hill with a splendid view of Baiersbronn valley and the forest. The garden, sunbathing lawn and children’s playground (swing, sand box) give you lots of space, as do the apartments themselves with separate bedrooms, kitchen and in some cases 2 balconies. Parking space at the house. Special services: morning bread rolls, washing machine, dryer. Hiking and cross-country ski training. Public transport is free of charge! Lots of cultural establishments. Good place to start from for trips to Strasbourg, Baden-Baden, Freiburg, the Europa park, museums, etc. Grocery shop 250 m, supermarket 2 km, restaurant 500 m, bus stop 250 m, railway station 3 km

Ski: The region around Baiersbronn is regarded as the high point for skiing. An extensive cross country track with World Cup pistes offers cross country to beginners as well as professionals. Classic techniques are preferred throughout. As a rule skating technique is taught in parallel. No less than 3 night tracks are available within a distance of 20 km. One is very safe, being equipped with artificial snow. Beautiful views of this unique winter landscape make a cross country tour a special adventure. Alpin has an excellent ski lift (chair lift) in Baiersbronn, although the snow is not considered especially safe. Various smaller ski lifts (ski tows) each about 500 m in length can be found along the Black Forest Hochstrasse with good ski safety (minimum distance 18 km). Suitable for beginners and advanced. Floodlighting provided.

Golf: The nearest golf course is in Freudenstadt (18 holes) at a distance of 11 km. Golfers with place tickets do not have specific starting times. The site is also suitable for beginners. There is a golf school at the site. Alpirsbach golf site with 9 holes is 20 km away.

Short break to the Balck Forest

My parents and I stayed in this apartment during the October half-term break and found that exceeded our expectations.

The description and illustrations contained within this website is very accurate. We found it accommodated the three of us very adeqately in terms of space, layout and facilities. It is located a small distance from the town of Baiersbronn and in close proximity to a number of excellent restaurants and scenic attractions: everything for those on holiday without being spoiled by being over-commercialised. The town has a couple of supermarkets and a variety of shops (but the whole place closes on a Sunday - quite rightly!). There is a variety of eating places within driving distance, from fine dining to cosy inns and bars. The tourist office in the town is very helpful in providing recommendations.

Considering our arrival well after midnight, we received a warm welcome from Herr Frey. Our hosts left us very much alone to lead our holiday as we wished and without undue 'interference' or 'monitoring'; however, we knew that assistance was at hand next door should we require it.

The apartment was exceptionally clean and well maintained and seemed to us to be very new. We were surprised to learn that it had been converted 15 years ago. Careful maintenance and refurbishment has ensured that the property provides a very high degree of comfort and retains an attractive 'alpine' feel. The balcony provided delightful views over the valley below and the garden was a suntrap (we were lucky considering the time of year).

Included with the apartment is the local 'guest card' which offered the three of us unlimited bus and train travel within the Black Forest - exceptional value. We used it for a day trip to Freiburg and to Baden-Baden. The local stationmaster was very helpful in providing itineraries.

We do not hesitate to recommend this property to our friends and to others reading this website.
