We have just returned from a 10 day stay in apartment 408.
Whereas the balconies are excellent -- great memories of lovely sunsets-- and the kitchen very well equiped and clean, I have some concerns that not everything is as the website description would suggest.
I had chosen somewhere 'in the Lido area' as on a previous visit to Madeira I had had my bag snatched whilst walking back to our apartment in a quiet area 10 minutes away from the Lido. I was therefore a bit unhappy to find out that the apartment is in fact 15 minutes away! The location is 'Praia Formosa Beach' which is stretching the 'near the Lido' description a bit too far. It's nowhere near it!
It would have been nice to have been told that the hotel had closed in January this year! Apart from the reception desk it's unusal to see anyone around apart from the odd person using their laptops in reception( -- no signal in the apartments.) No bar or restaurant. No heated pool, jacuzzi or sauna. I was told by the lady on the desk that I could use the bar and restaurant in the next door hotel but could NOT use the pool, the hotel bus that runs into Funchal, or other facilities.
As I've said the sea views made the holiday good and the lounge is comfortable. The towels and pillows need to be improved if the apartment is to be described as 'luxury' and the 'recent renovations' could not have applied to the bathrooms.
We could not have managed without a car.
The local fish restaurant ' restaurante by the sea' is lovely!
I would recommend it to a friend but with an honest description!

Thank you very much for your review and I really appreciate all your comments. Always ask ME about any questions you may have. The LIDO goes all the way to the Alto Lido Hotel only 5 min.walk away. You gat the wrong information in the reception and we will look into that, but I can assure you that all facilities are available for you, pool and the bar and restaurants next door, which is the same owner.The hotel is not closed, but for staff working of the Pestana hotel group, not public, so that is why it is nice a quiet and not a lot of noicy tourists here. We have had hundreds of guests over the years and never had problems. We will hope to see you both next year maybe later in 2010 and please book in well in advance we are at the moment 6 month ahead with bookings. We are looking forward to meet you and your husband next year.
