I hope to see you again in Dordogne!

A true paradise on earth
Arriving at this wonderful spot in the middle of the unspoiled countryside and the warm welcome by Jacky and Francis was the start of a magnificent week at Le Scourbet. The preparations for our stay, the comfort as well as the cozy interior so tastefully decorated with many personal touches made us happy. Everything you wish for is available and you really lack nothing at all. Outside the lovely shady terrace with the large dining table, cosy seats everywhere overlooking the well maintained garden, the awesome pool with excellent sun loungers, the fields and the woods, and moreover the silence, it really gave us this "wish to stay forever" feeling. We spent more time outside than inside and enjoyed the several visits of the small deer and even once at sunset we spotted the wild boar family in the upper meadow. Indeed we were sorry to leave Le Scourbet, this true paradise on earth. Dear Jacky and Francis, on behalf of all of us, thank you so much for your immense hospitality, for all delicacies presented to us on arrival, in short for a magnificent and unforgettable week. Au revoir! With kind regards, Liz

Wunderbar

Great house in lovely location
Had a peaceful and very enjoyable stay. The house has everything for a comfortable holiday, and the pool and grounds are lovely. The hosts were spot on with their communication and welcome (wine, fruit jam and cake very much enjoyed). Local wildlife, deer, birds of prey etc. all paid a visit, nice to see.

About the host

Hosted by Jacky Cosnier

Host profile image
We have owned this house for over 20 years and enjoyed many holidays in it. My husband and I are both retired. I'm British but was a French civil servant and am now French. My husband is French from birth. We have 2 grown up daughters. Our main residence is the city centre of Bordeaux. My husband loves gardening, mushrooming, and wine and DIY and I'm a poor painter and poor pianist and sing when noone is around to experience the pain. The piano is tuned and you won't be disturbing the neighbours no matter how badly or well you play . In decoration we try to keep the house's old country charm but with a slightly contemporary mix. Each year we try and update things.

Why they chose this property

The Dordogne is wonderful for its medieval chateaux , rivers for canoeing, and its markets and night markets for food, music and dancing for all generations. This property is wonderfully situated just out of reach enough to enjoy peace but within reach on foot of 2 lovely villages , Urval with a charming café and restaurant and Paleyrac. There are 2 larger villages with a supermarkets and all services 5 km away (Siorac& Le Buisson) . Between Urval and Paleyrac, the house is close to the vibrant old town of Belves with lots of activities and music. Also Saint Cyprien (great market on Sunday) the castles of Benac, Castelnaud, Les Milandes and Cadouin with its famous cloisters is nearby and the lovely village of Limeuil at the confluence of the Rivers Dordogne and Vézère. Le Bugue is a busy small market town. town. Near enough to Sarlat, Bergerac and Perigueux ( 45 mins)but far enough away to enjoy the village life of those smaller villages with their markets and the night life of their marchés nocturnes (Audrix is delightful) where we dance and enjoy foie gras . Canoeing can be done from the beaches of Limeuil or Siorac or you can float down in front of the castles from just above Roquegageac or nearer - an experience not to be missed which even the youngest can enjoy. There are plenty of affordable restaurants and some less affordable but quite gourmet. Walkers will enjoy the many mapped paths which surround the house. Golf and horse riding is within 5 kilometers. There are lots of caves and prehistory in Les Eyzies, Montignac ( Lascaux). There's even Shakespeare (usually the lighter plays) in Belves' covered market place and in other nearby towns in early August . There are a number of adventure parks, son et lumières and many classical music rendez-vous (Paunat and elsewhere). At Sarlat there is Commedia del Arte theater festival in July. Tennis in Le Buisson and Siorac

What makes this property unique

Everything happens on the leafy terrace in this house and if you go and make a cup of tea in the kitchen you can supervise kids in the pool from the kitchen window. The bedrooms downstairs are nice and cool in very hot weather and 2 enjoy French windows onto the bread oven. My husband is rather proud of the state of the art bathroom on this level. There is another bathroom upstairs with a shower and basin and wardrobe which is often used by the couple sleeping in the bedroom next to the lounge which has priveleged views over the woods behind and is often a good place for spotting wildlife early in the morning. We get deer eating our roses!. Mapped walking paths surround the house and there is very little traffic on the small road which leads into the woods so you don't have to watch young children. There is a working fireplace and wood is provided. We have a ping pong table and keep balls, shuttlecocks, bows and arrows, croquet set, ping pong balls and rackets and badmington rackets, old golf clubs . There is riding nearby and also a golf course just 5 kilometers away. The house is 2 km from the river with a small beach but there are beaches at Siorac, Take a canoe and row or let yourself float down is a must. Le Buisson and Limeuil where you can swim easily. There are restaurants just 2 km away and in many of the charming villages nearby.
