Ulm Cathedral (the tallest church in the world), historic old city (fishermen’s quarter), town-hall built by the N.Y. architect Richard Meier, ‘Neue Mitte’, the Ulm Museum with its Lion man (the oldest man/animal sculpture in the world, about 30,000 years old) and the Brot museum with works by Breughel and Kollwitz. The inner city has bars, cafés, shops and a wide choice of entertainment. Outside the city you will find many ways to spend your free time whatever your interests are. Upper Swabia with its baroque abbeys and the Swabian Alps with their caves, castles and wondrous valleys are only a couple of kilometers away. On a clear day you can see the peaks of the Alps which can be reached in an hour from Ulm, as well as the Bodensee, Stuttgart and Munich. In July: the Ulmer Volksfest, the Light Serenade, ‘Oath Week’ when the mayor takes a historic oath and ‘Nabada’. As well as the town of Blaubeuren, the Blautopf spring and Wiblingen Abbey (library).
