Wander to your heart’s content:
By Erz Mountains standards, Oberbärenburg is almost at the peak, so it’s absolutely wonderful for walking. There are no sudden changes of gradient. Well signposted walkways begin at your door and carry such evocative names as Auerhahnbalzweg (Capercaillie mating path), Briefträgersteig (Postman’s way), Hirschstange (Deer stretch), Schnepfensteig (Snipe way), Morgenleite and Abendleite (Morning and Evening ways). There are benches along the way, the local Tellkoppe Mountain has a wonderful view, and Oberbärenburg is so uniquely picturesque...
Local events:
Although Oberbärenburg is tranquil when you’re at home, there are lots of attractive events throughout the year. In February the hearts of younger visitors will thrill to the Snow Queen festival. Igloos and snow sculpture competitions, crafts afternoon and much more – you can meet the snow queen in person near to Kai and Gerda. At the end of August the Music Festival takes place, a very special musical event. At the beginning of October, when it’s colder, the weather is ideal for sleigh dogs’ training runs. Come and see several dozen dogs in a really fabulous atmosphere.
Erz Mountains glistening at night:
Spring, summer, autumn and winter – every time of the year is lovely here. But the most beautiful time of the year for local people starts on the Saturday before the 1st day of Advent, when the lights go on, not just in every house, pub and window, but also deep in their hearts. This tradition is centuries old and deeply bound up with local mining work. You can find out the details when you arrive! We invite you to come and spend a few Advent days in the “Erz Mountains Light Show”. You will certainly want to join us. Christmas is prettier here than anywhere else!
