A 5 bedroom converted farmhouse set in its own eight acres of terraced land, with wonderful views down towards the coast below and easy access to the mountains above. The surrounding hills are excellent walking country. The farmhouse is in a serene location among almond groves and 200-year old olive trees half way up the valley of Fuente Amarga where the natural spring provides mineral water for drinking and irrigation to the surrounding oasis. With fresh air and utter peace and quiet away from the packed 'costas'. The local landscape is semi-desert which certainly has its own beauty. The surrounding valleys are covered with olive groves, almond, fig and pomegranate trees.

The house is located approx. 10 minutes away from the lively market town of Huercal-Overa (shops, bars, banks, cinema, theatre). Within a five-minute drive down the valley is the nearby village of Urcal where there are two 'mini-mercados' (a bit like corner shops!) that have everything including fresh bread, fruit and vegetables and drink. There are excellent eating out opportunities in the local town of Huercal-Overa and also wonderful seafood restaurants on the coast at Garrucha and Mojacar (30 minutes away). Other local attractions include: a water park, beautiful nature reserve (Maria), the quaint towns of Los Velez, horse-riding, Mini-Hollywood theme park, the interesting city of Murcia and so much more. An information pack is provided at the house with all local tips.

  • Both bathrooms (one on each floor) are very spacious and have a full length bath tub as well as a shower. They are in a typical Andalucian style with beautiful moorish tiling.

Notes: Accommodation: Total sleeping capacity is up to 14 people. There is also a travel cot. The upstairs living room is a long room at the front of the house overlooking the pool and terrace. It measures 13m x 3.5m. At one end is a large open fireplace with a sofa, Moroccan pouffes and Moorish tables. At the other end are the 2 sofa (beds) around the music and TV/DVD systems. A good selection of English language DVDs are available. Outside: Around the house are approx. 400sq m of paved terrace and gardens: a walled patio at the rear, large patio at the side of the house with 180 deg views of the valley below, 150sq m of tiled patio at the front of the house with a beautiful 10x5m swimming pool.

Local day trips: A comprehensive list of suggested day trips is provided. The house is in easy reach of some wonderful sights that can be visited in one day. Granada (Alahambra and old town). Mojacar ('white' village by the coast). Murcia (impressive baroque cathedral and Moorish style casino, major shops). Almeria (beautiful Moorish castle fort and gypsy area, beach and shops). Maria (nature reserve, excellent mountain walks, pine forests) etc.

Water supply, no problem even in drought: The house, of course, has mains water, but as a safeguard there is also a large tank of water with electric pump should a drought mean the mains water pressure is dropped. So water is never a problem.

We had a great time at the house in August, thank you for your thoughtfulness. The house was just perfect: idyllic setting; loads of space, though plenty of places to have a bit of peace and quiet if you felt like it; every need anticipated and catered for and plenty of space and furniture for eating out. I've stayed at so many places that cater for large groups but don't quite provide enough seating! Everything was just so lovely from the bedrooms to the pool! I am gushing now so will finish!

Our first impressions of the house was that it looked just amazing. It even looked spacious enough for all 10 of us! The communal indoor areas, like the kitchen, the bathrooms, etc, were all great – there were enough appliances, crockery etc. Everything well furnished. My absolute favourite thing about the house was the outside areas – the pool and walled garden / BBQ area.
We had a really great time and would definitely consider booking again.
