We first started came to know Big Bear approximately 10 years ago, when our children were very young and we wanted a mountain getaway where we could leave our day-to-day life in San Diego and get away by car for with the entire family. Like you, we have very busy lives, raising 3 active children. We looked long and hard to find a get-away that was within driving distance and a change of scenery. After one visit to Big Bear, we knew we found our second home. We loved Big Bar so much, we eventually bought a small home outside of town. After a few years and lots of time in Big Bear, we found that we wanted more space so we could have multiple families join us for the weekend, we found 41595 Mockingbird and it has been our first choice get-away ever since. We have always believed that it is important to keep our family together and there is nothing like outdoor activities to do just that. Whether we are skiing and snowboarding in the winter, boating, biking or hiking in the summer, we have so many great memories of Big Bear. Big Bear is our home away from home and always leaves us with a better appreciation for the 'simple' things in life and the importance of family time.

Patty Lendrum purchased this villa in 2005

Villa Mockingbird is the Grand Dame of Eagle Point, with its stately gated entry and circular driveway. This property was occupied by Oscar de la Hoya before he bought his home in Big Bear. We have put much love into our home to give it a comfortable and warm feeling. The entire back of the house is Southerly facing which allows extensive sun filled rooms. One of the most unique features of our home is the upstairs great room with its wall-to-wall windows that provide year around sun in and warmth. Even in the Winter, we sit in short sleeves on the back deck and soak in the sun and relax after a day on the slopes.

Unlike many of the homes in Big Bear, our home is located on a large half-acre flat lot. This allows for year-around easy access and plenty of room to park your toys or to just play in the large fully fenced yard. We even have a fully sized swing set in the front yard so the kids can play outside while still on the property. We love taking walks down to the Lake and Ski Beach which is just 3 blocks from the house. Ski Beach is one of the few spots on the lake with beach access and has a snack bar and lifeguards. The home is located in a very nice neighborhood of primarily year-around residents which gives you great peace of mind and a sense of security. With its double front gates, the home is very secure and private. During the busy Ski season, Snow Summit runs shuttle buses from Garston parking lot which is roughy a 3 minute drive from the house. From Snow Summit, you can catch a free shuttle to Bear Mountain. This is truly a home-away-from-home and we hope you too will create great memories while staying in our home, just as we have. Thank you for considering staying at Villa Mockingbird.

Big Bear Lake is the Lake Tahoe of Southern California, with year-round adventure and activities. Whether you are an elite-class athlete, aspiring adventure racer, or a weekend warrior, there is no better place to train and play than at 7,000 feet above sea level with clear blue skies and clean crisp mountain air. Big Bear’s culture is outdoor activities and play and is home to world-class athletes and adventure racers. One of our favorite races is Conquer the Bear which takes place in four stages over a 12-month period and consists of a snow shoe race, mountain biking, paddling and trail running. This is the perfect race to try new activities and set fitness goals. Winter activities in the surrounding mountains such as skiing and snowboarding complement the hiking, fishing, and biking of summer. There are numerous hiking trails in the area that each offers unique features. The Cougar Crest Trail is a four-mile (round trip) trek, one needs plenty of water on this hike. The trail is very dry but as one goes through the steep and rocky hills, they get to see a panoramic view of the lake and surrounding mountains that make it well worth it. The Castle Rock Trail, a two-mile trek, is considered moderate for the hiker who is “in shape”. It has beautiful scenery, a running stream, a waterfall, and a fantastic view of Big Bear Lake once you reach the top. The Pacific Crest Trail also connects to the Cougar Crest Trail so you can hike one of the most famous trails in the Western United States; stretching from Mexico to Canada. Mountain bikers can enjoy the new Snow Summit Adventure park with downhill single track riding for all levels during the summer months. You can take the sky chair to the top and then go back down after you choose from many of the scenic bike trails. Whether you’re a beginner or expert mountain biker, there is something for everyone. If you do not have a bike, there are amazing state-of-the-art mountain bikes available for rent, as well as helmets too. For the skier, Big Bear Mountain Resort offers more than 190 acres of ski area for the winter sport enthusiast. Bear Mountain continues to improve the park for the upcoming winter season with a commitment to offer one of the best freestyle terrain parks in the world. Some qualities of the park include southern California’s only super pipe, more than 80 jibs, and more than 150 jumps. It is always updated with new redesigns in effort to provide visitors more fun, progressive riding and skiing experiences.

Big Bear Lake is a user-friendly lake that's great for personal watercraft, boating, wake-boarding, water-skiing, parasailing and fishing. And, don't forget kayaking and canoeing. Big Bear also offers unique shops, restaurants, and theaters in the charming town village. The national forest is great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and rock climbing. You won't forget the youngster in all of us when you come and enjoy the Moonridge Animal Park and Zoo, the Alpine Slide, go carts, miniature golf, water slides, arcades, Discovery Center and much, much more.
