Almond blossom, when it’s freezing in Germany:
In winter, when it’s stormy, snowing and freezing in Germany, the Costa del Azahar shows its most intensive colours. When it’s almond blossom time in January, February and March, this part of the coast is transformed by a cloud of white and pink blossoms. The mild spring climate, the wonderful, ancient landscape and the unique beauty of blossoming almond trees make this a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. See the magical blossom of Costa Ahazar, when aerial photos show long sections of the coast looking as if they are covered with snow. From November to January you’ll appreciate the name ‘Costa Ahazar’ – orange blossom coast – when the orange, lemon and mandarin harvest occurs. Apart from the Alhambra in Granada, the most visited attraction in Spain at the moment is the Knights Templars castle of Peniscola, built on an Arabian town and only 15 km away. In the year 1411 Pope Benedict XII had to spend his exile from Avignon there.
Climate on the Costa del Ahazar:
Out of 10 people who were asked 8 told us that good weather is an important factor. The pleasant, healthy climate, the happy inhabitants and the Spanish mentality are just a few of many reasons why lots of people take their holidays here or decide to live on the Costa del Ahazar. Even more important than the weather is the health-inducing climate of the coast, especially beneficial for bronchial, heart, circulatory or rheumatic problems. The towns and villages have retained their Spanish character. Costa Del Ahazar doesn’t just offer sun and wonderful beaches; there are also historical locations and lots of nature, with a splendid background of mountains and a unique climate. Alcossebre and Las Fuentes are two of the few Spanish Mediterranean coastal towns where there are no sky-scraper blocks.
Life on the Costa Del Ahazar:
You can still enjoy summer sun in autumn here, when the nights at home are getting colder and the leaves are falling, you can still eat your breakfast at 9 am in your summer wear, or sit outside till far into the night, with Mediterranean food and a bottle of good red wine. What’s more, you can still, just like in the old days, buy your fish straight from the catch as the locals do. The same is true for fruit and vegetables – it’s freshly picked. October and November are the most beautiful months of the year. It’s not quite so hot, but the water in the pool is still 23 degrees so you can still bathe. Las Fuentes and Alcossebre, an oasis on the Spanish Mediterranean coast with charm and flair for the discerning guest.
Ski:
Unknown to most Germans but long prized by the Dutch, the French and the English, the Andorra ski district has become one of the most high quality, cost-effective skiing areas. When you get here. All your wishes will be fulfilled. There is no VAT. No income tax. And the King of Spain Juan Carlos has been regularly using the pistes here for 25 years. In wintertime you can get to the ski slopes in 2 hours by car, and if the weather permits you can get back in time to bathe in the pool.
Golf:
Enjoy golf in Vinaros, on one of the best golf sites between olive and orange trees. The site was designed with the help of the famous and well regarded golfer Bernhard Langer. Don’t forget that you must see Europe’s dream town, Barcelona. It’s a town you’ll always want to come back to once more. In the middle of Barcelona there’s ‘Las ramblas’, Spain’s most famous street, with lots of blossoms, cafes, and shops. Walk on to Port Vell over the wooden pedestrian bridge, past yachts shifting gently on the water like post-card pictures, till you get to the Columbus monument. You mustn’t forget to see the most famous church of Spain, ‘la sagrada familia’ by Antonio Gaudi.
