Simpson Bay Condo Rental Photos and Description

Luxurious living space with unsurpassed ocean views

Simpson Bay is bordered by a beautiful 2-mile long, lightly-populated curved beach; Las Arenas is a very high-end 12-unit condominium complex right in the middle of Simpson Bay Beach (and one of the finest in St. Maarten); and this third-level unit, “Heaven”, is a premium unit within Las Arenas. It fronts on the beach and overlooks the entire bay and beach from the third floor, with floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides (and the ceilings are high) and a view of the Island of Saba off in the distance.

The aqua color of the sea, which is so sought after in the Caribbean, completely surrounds you. There are magnificent views from all rooms—living room, dining room, kitchen, and both master bedrooms. In the living room and dining areas there is more than a 200-degree panoramic view of the sea and the beach, and on the wrap-around deck—where you can just lounge and listen to the waves or have a meal any time of day—there is a 270-degree view. You feel one with the sea.

There are usually large yachts and sailboats tied up in the bay; and in the evening you may see huge cruise ship off in the distance. It’s an imposing sight. And after the sun sets, the many lights at the East end of the beach, from the “Village on the Hill”, provide a lovely and romantic evening view.

The weather is temperate year-round—even in the summer—and there is always a sea breeze to keep you cool. St. Maarten is truly a lovely place to visit in any season.

Heaven is a luxurious unit: marble floors throughout, marble baths, high ceilings, a modern high-end kitchen, beautiful furnishings, glass doors that can be slid out of sight, and electric shutters on the outside of all windows. The thick concrete walls, ceilings, and floors provide excellent sound proofing and security. The Las Arenas complex is gated, very secure, and impeccably maintained. The freshwater infinity pool right next to the beach provides a lovely and pleasant respite from a day in the sun. And the seawater is warm, clear, clean, devoid of seaweed, with moderate waves due to the protection of the bay. It’s an ideal place to swim, and the beach could not be any closer.

There are many amenities: large digital flat-screen TV in the living room with Bose sound system, flat-screen TVs in both master bedrooms, cable service, high-speed wireless internet, GE Monogram appliances in the gourmet kitchen including dishwasher and a wine cooler, a safe for valuables, secure covered parking, and daily maid service (except Sundays and holidays). Access is either by elevator or by spacious outdoor stairs.

Not far off are many restaurants offering wide-array of sea foods and various ethnic foods. It’s a short drive to a number of markets and supermarkets carrying the usual stateside choice of foods and beverages, but also offering wonderful French pastries, breads, cheeses, pates and wines. Bakeries, pharmacies, gas stations, car rental agencies, and the airport are all reasonably nearby.

There are many activities available including sailing, snorkeling, diving, deep-sea fishing, riding wave-runners, boat tours, touring the French side, visiting the butterfly farm, and traveling to neighboring islands to sightsee and shop.

Heaven is a no-pet and no-smoking unit.

It doesn’t get much better than this. Heaven really lives up to its name. Come and be one with the sea for a week or more—it is very renewing. If you do, there is a very good chance you will want to return!

Why Janet Johnston chose Simpson Bay

We have been traveling to St St Maartin for the past 4 years and we have always stayed at 'Heaven'; when the unit went on the market we were so afraid that we would not find another unit as perfect for us as this one is, we decided to make it ours. The contemporary design of the unit which is surrounded by the crystal clear turquoise water of the Caribbean sea made the unit quite irresistible.

What makes this condo unique

Beautifully architecturally designed and landscaped grounds!

3000 sq ft of living space (including balcony)

Panoramic views !

Gated property!

One of the Island best beaches; no crowds and great for long walks or jogging!

Six person elevator as well as outdoor stairs!

Back up generator and storm shutters!

Water sports, hairdressers, restaurants and bars, duty-free shopping, casinos, and night entertainment are within a few minutes drive!

Guestbook comments from the owner

hello Janet....everything at Heaven was " as advertised " and we had a great time. the unit was awespme as were the many amenities that came along with it. we did not lack for anything. thank you for leaving some basics for us ( beer, wine, milk etc. ) so we were not under the gun to go shopping immediately upon our arrival. Cora is a great ambassador for your condo as she is friendly as well as efficient. the only thing I would suggest is to have a cooler bag of some sort available so people can bring lunch and beverages to the beach and keep them chilled. it is a minor detail I know but probably the only thing we actually were looking for. if you had one there and I didn't see it I apologize. otherwise it was a terrific week and we will certainly think of you should we return to the island. thank you again for all of your hospitality !

Just wrapped up an 8 day stay (me, wife and 4 yr old) in this amazing unit. The pictures do not do it complete justice -- actually larger than it appears in the pictures. The owner is based in US so a snap to email and very responsive. Upon arrival at SXM, we met Cora the hoursekeeper at Hertz and followed her a short three minute ride to Las Arenas, which is a beautiful gated property right on Simpson Bay Beach. The unit is a 2 BR, 2 1/2 Bath on the third floor directly facing the ocean and immediately on Simpson Bay Beach. Basically the best unit in the building but for the one unit on top of it. The living area is surrounded by hideaway glass doors which you can slide open for the wonderful ocean breeze and sound of the crashing waves. Makes you feel like you're on a cruise ship right on the ocean. It's really stunning. The living area and kitchen are very well appointed and there is everything you need for your stay, incl a gas grill and cable with bose sound in every room. The balcony itself wraps around the unit and could probably hold a hundred people with views all over Simpson Bay. You can get sun on the balcony in the AM and also in the PM. There's also loungers and a table. The bedrooms are spacious and there is AC throughout which works wonderfullly. There's also a washer/dryer and a huge fridge & dishwasher as well as a wine fridge . The bedrooms have wonderful mattresses and the baths are large, especially the master which has a dreamy jacuzzi from which you can still view the ocean. The view of the ocean from the unit is direct and amazing and you can see Saba and even St. Barth's on a clear day. There's also a great infinity pool (not very deep) but also not terribly crowded as there are only about 12 units or so in the building. The pool area has plenty of loungers and you get direct sun from the early AM until about 2-3 PM (we were there in late April). You also have direct access to Simpson Bay Beach which can get some rough surf but great overall for families. You can also walk up the beach to Mary Boons or Karakters for food. I hear (although I did not do it myself) that you can walk the other end up to the drawbridge into Simpson Bay. The unit is right behind the airport but the airport noise is not annoying at all and actually very convenient for departure and side trips via air. plus the planes are cool. also easy access to the French side via the new causeway. great place.

What More Could You Ask For

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of three (husband, wife and 16 year old boy), who recently spent a glorious week in Heaven.

We travel fairly frequently and usually rent condos or houses through VRBO. I can say with certainty that this condo is at the top of our list.

Prior to this trip, we had been to St. Maarten only once while on a cruise stop, and were therefore unsure of which area to stay in. This condo was a perfect choice. Words cannot describe the amazing view. It was so much more than we expected. The beach was spectacular and the pool was terrific. Although we did meet some lovely people who were visiting at Las Arenas (and one super friendly owner), for most of the week we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We felt very safe in the area and loved the fact that it is mix of small independent hotels and low rise residential, with many locals living in the area. We rented a car for the week and visited Grand Case and Marigot. We all felt, however, that we did not want to `waste` time elsewhere, as we truly loved spending time at Las Arenas.

The condo was very clean and the housekeeper Cora was great. The owner of the condo was an absolute pleasure to deal with from the moment we first made contact. The welcome basket upon arrival was also a nice touch.

The beds were super comfortable and the condo is equipped with everything you would need.

The fact that we could see both sunrise and sunset was another added bonus. We loved watching the mega yachts and cruise ships come and go in the distance. We loved being close the airport and truly enjoyed seeing the planes fly overhead (if there was any `noise` we certainly didn't notice it. In fact over the course of the week we looked forward to seeing the larger planes leave the island).

We enjoyed the short walk down the beach to have drinks and dine at both Karakter and Mary Boon`s. We also enjoyed the Thai restaurant (best Thai food I've ever had), Pineapple Pete`s and Buccaneer Beach Bar.

We took a day trip to the island of Anguilla with Blue Safari – which I would highly recommend.

All in all, an amazing week. I cannot imagine how it could have been any better and I can`t imagine staying at better spot in St. Maarten. I continue to think of the incredible view daily. We are all looking forward to returning.

Thanks again Janet.

Simply The Best

  • 5 of 5

The title says it all, Heaven is the best unit in the best building on the best beach in the best area to rent a vacation property on the island of St Maarten. We are qualified to make this statement because we travel extensively to warm weather climates and have been to St Maarten probably a dozen times.

Best Unit: It is one of only four end units right on the water and the 3rd floor is high enough for beautiful views in all directions. You can watch the sunsets from your huge wrap around balcony. Look at the pictures posted on the vrbo site and that is what you get. This is a bright contemporary condo with sliding glass doors on every wall that open up on to the spectacular balcony. You of course have air conditioning but we like the open air feeling you gain with the doors open and completely hidden into the walls. It is tastefully furnished and has everything you could possibly need or want from the kitchen (complete with a wine fridge) to the Bose sound system.

Best Building: The building is locate pretty much in the center of Simpson Bay Beach which is the best and widest part of the beach. You can take your beach walk in either direction. The building only has 12 units so the gorgeous infinity pool is rarely crowded. The contemporary design has a nice open feel to it. It is well taken care of from the landscaping to the walkways with every day maintenance. The gated parking is a very nice amenity.

Best Beach: It is one of the few St Maarten beaches with rental units right on the beach. And, it is very uncluttered with mostly residential buildings and only a couple of boutique hotels. There are a couple of restaurants you can walk to on the far end but they are not anywhere near this residence. The water is wonderful and great for swimming. Catamarans choose Simpson Bay Beach to anchor off the shore so their guests can go for a swim.

Best Area: Simpson Bay has everything you could want from it's 80 restaurants, french bakeries to gourmet super markets. They are far enough away not to be in your face but you can easily reach them even on foot. And, the location is right near the bridge that takes you to Marigot on the French side in 5 to 10 minutes by car.

If you are lucky enough to be able to stay in Heaven right on the beach, you are lucky enough.

absolute paradise

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I take a winter vacation each year with our 2 boys (age 4 and 11) to get out of the cold and snowy northeast. Heaven at Las Arenas is far and away the best villa we have stayed at in terms of the actual unit, location, amenities, etc.

We have traveled all over the Caribbean and several countries in Europe and the view from this unit is world class.....a sunset that rivals the Greek islands. The unit is the perfect set up for 2 couples or a couple and a few kids. more than enough size and you could have 30 people on the wrap around balcony! Zero entry pool is great for kids and beach access is as close as you could ever get. Had plans to hit several beaches on the island but felt our spot was perfect and barely left.....only for dinners. Some great restaurants right in Simpson Bay if you don't feel like driving.

The owner and the woman that takes care of the unit were first class and helped us out with so many things before and during trip.

Perfect winter getaway in paradise with ocean views from every corner of the villa. if we come back to St. Martin we will without question stay at Heaven at Las Arenas. if you come make sure you rent a car...this is a must. and also bring binoculars so you check out the mega-yachts that come right in front of the villa every day!

We expected a beautiful residence with amazing views, just from looking at the pictures. It has that. What we were pleasantly surprised by was having someone meet us at the rental car place to lead us there, give us the tour, show us how everything worked, wash the dishes, wash the towels, clean everything, and even let us out of the gate when we left. Anything we needed (corkscrew, candle, blender, dryer, wifi, dishes, silverware, etc.) was there. Air-conditioned, ceiling fans, double master bedrooms/baths... And we couldn't get enough of watching the mega-yachts and cruise ships coming and going, as we sat on the couch. We also enjoyed the plane-watching from the balcony and the restaurant/bar just down the beach. Walk down and try the frozen mojitos at Karakter, then stand by the fence as a 747 takes off. Very cool. The pool was quiet (unless we'd had too many mojitos) and relaxing. It's not heated, so if it's 9 AM and the sun hasn't warmed it up yet (like anything else) it'll be chilly, but by mid-afternoon it's refreshing. There's also a guy who works constantly outside sweeping and cleaning everything, so it's really kept up very well. Even a (very bored) security guard who stays outside all night to keep an eye on things, so once you're in the gate, you feel really secure. It's probably the nicest residence on Simson Bay, having walked the beach many times during our two-week stay. The beach is three steps away, and was basically a private beach... Only a couple other people at a time even walked by. We actually drove to other beaches on a couple days for some people watching. Too glowing, of a review, right? The "cons"- it's a home, which means there could be minor maintenance issues. A water pump broke and we had no water for a few hours one day, but that was very quickly repaired. And St. Maarten isn't all as luxurious as Las Arenas is. Two houses down the beach people live in a shack, and there are some streets in Marigot (French side) I wasn't really comfortable walking down, but you have that in any city. But the location is two minutes from gas, groceries, food, shopping, French bakeries (to die for), adult entertainment, airport, and anything else you may need. Overall, it's a really, really nice place with nice services (even a welcome basket), and plenty to do nearby. Parking is a bit tight, and the neighbors may not drive Land Rovers, but I'd happily stay there again if I returned to SXM.

Heaven at Las Arenas

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in Heaven. The name perfectly describes this luxurious condo overlooking  Simpson Bay.

We were in awe at the breathtaking view from the living and dining area which has  a wrap around balcony and floor to ceiling windows. There is nothing to obstruct your view of the ocean.

The condo is luxuriously appointed.  The furnishings are elegant and modern yet still maintained a light and airy tropical feel. The little things can sometimes make or break a vacation, so we were happy that the toilet paper wasn't  thin and the linens were obviously of good quality (can't say the same about another unit we previously stayed in).  The welcome basket was a nice touch. The housekeeper did a great job keeping the unit clean throughout our stay.

We loved the infinity pool. We have two kids under 4 so we spent a lot of time in the pool. Another reviewer said the pool is cold but our kids didn't seem to think so.

We had a great time and will definitely go back.
