Canal District Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Central location, for 2 people, high quality furnishings and fireplace

The building in which the luxurious holiday apartment is located was built in the year 1643 and features a beautiful bell shaped gable. In 06/2007 the complete building was restored faithfully in the original style. The finely furnished apartment offers all comforts necessary for a great self catering holiday for a couple. It is unique and was designed and furnished by a well known artist. The apartment is separated in the third floor of the house and is accessed by a staircase in typical Amsterdam style. Amsterdam is one of the most romantic, interesting and cosmopolitan cities in the world.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The canal house was truly wonderful. Centrally located, but on a quiet residential street. Its lots of fun to watch all the people go by on the canal. Gives you an authentic taste of living in Amsterdam! We would without a doubt stay here again.

GREAT APARTMENT, GREAT LOCATION!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed in this very Dutch apt for 4 nights. The hosts are very lovely and welcoming. Although we spoke no Dutch or German, and they spoke little English-there was no problem communicating at all. The location is perfect-not in the middle of everything, but within easy walking distances to major sites in Amsterdam Central. The apt. was very clean, nicely furnished and very comfortable. I enjoyed the fabulous view of the Herengracht canal every day! As with most homes here-there are several steps up narrow staircases to get to the third floor apt-but this was no problem for me and my husband. The ever present hook and pulley system outside takes all the work out of carrying luggage upstairs. I whole heartedly recommend this apt and these hosts for a wonderful stay in Amsterdam. You will enjoy this comfortable self catering apt at a great location!!

BIRDS EYE VIEW OF THE CANAL

  • 5 of 5
We recently stayed in this apartment. It is a great location to see Amsterdam. Close to the Dam square, but not too close. An easy walk to most sites or if you are brave enough, a bike ride! The apartment is nicely off the main squares.

We were met on arrival by Liesa and friends who hoisted our luggage up to the top ie fourth floor. The apartment itself was clean, quaint and functional. The kitchen had all the necessary items for a short stay. Liesa had left coffee, tea and biscuits for our enjoyment. The bed and bedding were comfortable and as the bedroom is at back, it was quiet for sleeping. The large window at the front allowed a great view of the canal, tour boats and passersby. Be aware that the steps are steep like any canal house and the last flight is essentially a ladder which made for some good pictures. There was wifi available. Liesa was available when needed but admittedly communication was limited as we don't speak Dutch, but we managed just fine.

Would happily stay there again if we visit Amsterdam.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
The apartment is located right where the Jordaan neighborhood meets central and southwest Amsterdam. Easy access to public transportation and a reasonably short walk to most sites and all kinds of dining. We loved the canal view, the big shower and all the comforts of home. Two steep staircases and a, "ladder," make for a bit of an adventure as does the language barrier (if you speak English), but the hostesses make up for it by being very helpful. Stay here as we couldn't imagine a better all around apartment.

GREAT APARTMENT, GREAT LOCATION, BEAUTIFUL VIEW

  • 5 of 5
Lovely apartment directly overlooking the Herengracht canal in the Jordaan. It's a 5 minute walk to an Albert Heijn supermarket and an Orange Bicycle bike rental shop, a 10 minute walk to the heart of Amsterdam, the royal palace, and the red light district, and a 15 minute walk to central station. It's hard to imagine a better, more beautiful location for a vacation in Amsterdam! The apartment was spotless clean, very well appointed (including fresh coffee for the coffee maker!), and very nicely decorated with artwork done by the owner. I would stay there again without hesitation.

There are some things to know, however:

The owners speak only a bit of English, and (since I speak no Dutch or German), we struggled to understand each other a little bit. It wasn't a big problem, and we all laughed as we worked to communicate, but it's something to know about beforehand.

Throughout the whole building, and to a minor extent in the apartment itself, the smell of cigarette (or other) smoke was evident. It was no problem at all for me, but if my girlfriend (who has asthma) had been with me, should probably wouldn't have been able to stay there. But Amsterdam in general might not be a great location for sensitive asthmatics anyway, as there was a fair number of smokers everywhere in the city.

Also, there was no internet in the apartment. Although there were upward of 30 WiFi networks I could detect from the front window, they were all password protected. Martin gave me the password for his WiFi, but I was unable to make it work with iPhone, iPad, or laptop. There was an interesting solution, however: There is a small neighborhood coffee shop in the basement of the building that very nicely allowed me to sit and use their WiFi. You just have to brave the haze of cigarette and dope smoke that fills the room. After sitting in there for about half an hour on a Saturday night, my clothes reeked of smoke after leaving. After that, I sat on the front steps to use the network (unfortunately, their WiFi didn't reach all the way up to the apartment).

Lastly - be wary of the ceiling-mounted television in the living room - I banged my head on that thing at least a dozen times.

All of these items were minor, however, and I mention them only as "heads-up". All told, the stay in the apartment was near-ideal, and I would stay there again in a quick second.

There is plenty to see in the Dutch capital: museums, historical buildings, the wax museum and the Vondelpark. Our apartment is centrally located, right on Amsterdams famous Gracht in the centre. Tram stop, pedestrian area, dam, 9 Straatjes, Jordan, night shop and supermarket (open till 10 every night) are all a few minutes away by foot. The bible, war and theatre museum is 5 minutes away. It takes twenty minutes to the Reijks, van Gogh and Stedelijkmuseums.
