The Paia Fish Market, for just-off-the-beach-casual lunch must be on your list, and of course everyone must treat themselves to dinner at Mama's Fish House on the most beautiful beach setting in the world with five star dining!
The Waterfall House has been the secret hideaway for musicians, writers, celebrities and politicians over the years. With fresh trade winds, blue skies, billowing clouds, breath taking views you will start to melt the minute you arrive.
The Waterfall House is an architecturally stunning home designed for an intimate experience for a couple looking for a distinct, private and original location. Ideal for a Honeymoon, Special Anniversary, Romantic Tryst or an Artistic Retreat. With a dozen sliding glass doors, granting fabulous views from every angle, you will most definitely feel that nature is right at your finger tips.
Designed with sacred geometry principles, the six intersecting octagons and vine covered pillars give the Waterfall House a palatial milieu. With floors of cream colored marble from Bandung, Java and sky lit rooms you will bask in the uplifting sensations accentuated by the vaulted ceilings and tranquil Asian decor.
On the leeward side of the Waterfall House is your private pool area. It is heavily landscaped for your seclusion and perfectly protected from the trade winds.
The gas BBQ and poolside patio dining area are perfect for tropical evenings and late night dips in the pool. Lounging furniture is thoughtfully located for sunning by the pool and the ocean side of the house.
The kitchen has a fabulous coastline view all the way to Hana. The counter tops are a beautiful jade colored marble. Kitchen is fully equipped for meal preparation. We supply some spices and all kitchen utensils. There is a dining room with half bath just off the kitchen.
The master sleeping area is unique and inviting with a 7' round bed set into a marble pedestal supported by four pillars. On the ocean side is your private in-ground hot tub, just a few feet from the cliffs edge to give you the best ocean view. We often get late afternoon light showers that provide magical rainbows, best viewed while soaking in the hot tub!!
The living area is open and casual. Graced with a Yamaha Grand Piano, views out to the ocean, a fire place, large Flokati rug and generous bean bag chairs for fully relaxing. With hundreds of Dishnetwork TV, movies and music channels you can stay in touch with the world or tune it out. CD/DVD player, iPod dock and MiFi to boost your WiFi needs is available. The view from all three decks of the Waterfall House is looking east so you'll have spectacular sunrises and you can see the 175' Hanehoi waterfall flowing down through the gorge of our 22 acre Nature Reserve, out to the ocean. It takes a solid day of rain for the waterfall to really thunder. From November to April the whales are here and you can spot them from your deck! Come during the full moon to watch it rise right out of the ocean in front of Pali Uli. In the evening while star gazing, watch for pueo (Hawaiian owls) that soar over the gorge.
Onsite massage is available through Aloha Spa Maui. Call to set up your appointment and to choose the style of body work desired.
Yoga is taught five mornings a week next door at Hale Akua Garden Farms. Classes are offered by Shiva who has been a yoga instructor for over 30 years. Donations are appreciated.

Pali Uli Gardens is proud to be able to offer a 'greener' stay on Maui with our solar power projects, recycling and eco-friendly cleaning products, all within the heart of a harmonious organic farming community. The Waterfall House is hidden within the heart of the farming that takes place in the out lying acreage. You can tour the fields with a farm manager to learn more. Fresh produce can be purchased on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Your stay at Pali Uli Gardens helps to subsidize the farming school and the educational programs available for the farmers and organic food producers of the future.
Pali Uli Gardens staff has been here for many years and is full of Aloha and happy to be of service.
This area of Haiku, called Huelo, is a rural area with the up country Maui jungle feel. We are about half way to Hana but not all the way into the rainy part. We are right at the part of the Hana Hwy that starts to get windy and narrow, and where we get just enough rain to keep things green all year round.
Pali Uli Gardens is built right in the center of the Hanehoi gorge and is perched on the cliffs over looking the pristine Nature reserve and the wide Pacific Ocean, all the way to Hana. It's an extraordinary location that everyone loves and wants to returns to.
Wow! I am sooo glad that I found this place! On our last trip to Hawaii, we went to Oahu and stayed at the Turtle Bay Resort on the north shore. We loved staying there. It's a beautiful property. When we left, my wife said "let's come back to Turtle Bay for all of our vacations." We really loved staying there. After staying at the Waterfall House, I doubt we will ever go back to Turtle Bay.
When we walked on the back decks for the first time, we were simply in awe of the stunning view of the ocean and of Hanehoi Falls. Pictures cannot come close to doing justice to this setting. We settled in and had a relaxing evening. In the morning, we watched the sunrise from the master bedroom. We then decided to continue watching the sunrise from our private hot tub on one of the decks. While we did the Maui things (Road to Hana, Lahaina, snorkeling, relaxing on the beach, etc), we ended up spending 2 full days in the house, on the decks, and in/around the pool. Having a very private pool completely to ourselves is so different than sharing a resort pool and hot tub with hundreds of other people.
To be clear, staying here is very different than staying at an upscale hotel. We have stayed at a number of 4 and 5 star properties over the years. For example, the Montage Deer Valley is an incredible hotel. We have loved our multiple stays there. Again, this is very different than that. If you demand world-class service and high-end furnishings, this might not be for you. The kitchen doesn't come with a Viking or Wolf stove, a big stainless refrigerator, etc. But the kitchen had more amenities than we expected. It had everything we needed. Pots, pans, plates, glasses, utensils, spices, etc. We bought some nice food when we arrived, and enjoyed some nice dinners at home. If you want to exit your hotel and immediately have lots of restaurants within walking distance, don't come here. Go to Lahaina or Wailea instead.
Regarding the privacy, you can't see or hear anyone from any of the decks or from the pool area. It would be easy to spend several days without seeing anyone. My wife keeps the windows & blinds at our home closed as much as possible. She was completely comfortable with the amazing views in all directions.
You will need to rent a car. Once you turn off the Road to Hana, you will end up on a bumpy dirt road, but any rental car will be fine getting to the Waterfall House.
For a romantic getaway, I can't imagine a better place than this.
For the first half of our vacation we experienced the extravagance of the Wailea resort area, but for contrast, we moved to the Waterfall House for the remainder of our stay. Located in a true tropical setting on Maui's north shore about a few miles east of Haiku, the Waterfall House offered us the maximum in privacy and serenity in a unique setting perfect for two. As we tend to enjoy peaceful surroundings, this gave us a refreshing respite from the crowds and sometime frenetic environment often found in the resort areas.
The house's layout is different than a typical home as it is completely open with no interior doors where each room is delineated by the structural design of the floor plan. We acclimated quickly to the layout and felt very comfortable in the cozy surroundings. The lush gardens, ocean view and an active waterfall positioned in the cliff behind the house all contributed to this being a special place.
While there is a small sleeping loft accessed by a spiral staircase for additional occupants, it does not exhibit the same level of comfort and atmosphere as the main floor. Hence, larger families would not find the Waterfall House practical, but for a romantic getaway for two, this is the perfect place.
We “discovered” Pali Uli 10 years ago and have visited 4 times since then, staying twice in the Cliff House and twice in the Waterfall House. For us, it is absolute paradise! We love to stay at unusual accommodations in beautiful locations. We got hooked on small inns and B&B’s when traveling in the UK almost 20 years ago and we’ve spent a lot of time searching the internet for special places when we plan vacations. We’ve stayed at some very lovely and memorable spots in Ireland, Australia, Canada, and all over the US, but Pali Uli is the best we’ve ever found.
As you turn off the road to Hana onto Door of Faith Rd heading down toward the coast and Pali Uli, you’ll wonder if you made the right turn and the further you go the more you question your directions. It’s a rural single lane road that is paved for the first quarter mile or so, but then becomes a rutted, bumpy gravel road. However, you soon come to the Pali Uli Estate and when those gates swing open, it’s like St. Peter just opened the gates of heaven to you.
There’s a great description of the Waterfall House and it’s amenities above, but that and the photographs aren’t really able to convey the feeling of the place. As you walk around out by the pool or on any to the three lanais on the ocean side, you can’t see any neighbors, not even the Cliff House right next door. It is unbelievably private and so beautiful! It’s your personal piece of paradise. You will find that even though you’re in Hawaii, on Maui, with so many great things to see and do, you will not want to leave this place, even for a few hours.
A word of warning…Pali Uli is on the north shore of Maui in an undeveloped area. If you’re the type of person that enjoys staying at mega-resorts, sitting on the beach, and being served drinks by cabana boys, Pali Uli is probably not for you. However, if you enjoy privacy and natural beauty in upscale accommodations, and don’t mind mixing your own drinks, you may just fall in love with it like we did.
