COZY TREEHOUSE BY MT. MITCHELL GOLF COURSE & FISHING

Little Switzerland Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Private 2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, With Large Deck

“Mama said we had to let those rooms out...”

-Forrest Gump

So we’re inviting you to enjoy our cabin as much as we do!

The Treehouse is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin nestled in the trees in the South Toe River Valley of Burnsville, NC just minutes from fresh water fishing, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Mount Mitchell Golf Course. Enjoy some of the best hiking, golfing, and scenery in Western North Carolina. Of course, there’s also a lot to be said for porch sitting, and relaxing at night by a crackling fire. Luckily, we have that too!

Staying at the Treehouse has all the best aspects of staying in a cozy cabin in the woods, with all the conveniences you need to maintain the creature comforts of home. When you step out onto the oversized deck you are surrounded by the natural landscape of beautiful Western North Carolina, with no major roads, noisy neighbors or obstructive views, instantly drawing you into the sights, sounds, and smells (ahhh the smells) of the valley. Pour yourself a beer or glass of wine and grab an adirondack; you are staring at Mt. Mitchell, the tallest peak East of the Misssissippi River. Grill out and dine on the deck, when it cools down, cozy up in front of the stone fire place, and when you’re plum tuckered from too much fun & relaxation, snuggle into some of the comfiest bedding you’ve ever slept in; there’s no night’s sleep like a night sleeping in the Mountains. On a morning or evening walk it’s not uncommon to see deer in the meadow right above the property, and of course, we’re only a hop from the Golf Course, a skip from the beautiful South Toe River (complete with numerous waterfalls), and a jump from the amazing Blue Ridge Parkway!

Asheville is only an hour away with some of the most amazing restaurants, breweries and live music as well as the Biltmore House and the Grove Park Inn.

Welcome to our Treehouse! We are James & Cameron McKeever. We live full time in Ozona, Florida, a small fishing village on the West coast of Florida near the Clearwater Beach area. Throughout our travels of the US, we have discovered and hold true to the belief that these are the best two places a person can possibly find! We try to spend as much time at the Treehouse as we can, and it is truly our second home, not just a rental. We only hope you enjoy staying in our home as much as we do!

James McKeever purchased this cabin in 2005

We found the Treehouse while visiting the area with a friend who also had property in the South Toe River Valley. Out of the five or six properties we looked at, this was the first and only I (Cameron) needed to see. When we walked in, it felt exactly like my Grandfather’s cabin we used to stay in growing up as a kid. We had the greatest memories of that little cabin in the woods, and couldn’t wait to make our own. With James surrendering to the fact that there’s simply no competition for fond memories, we bought it in 2005, and over the past several years not only have we put our blood, sweat, tears and hearts into it (we just call it ‘good mojo’), but we have fallen head over heels in love with the South Toe Valley, and Asheville. Leaving is always a heartbreak.

House is away from road and private with huge open deck nestled in the trees, and view of Mount Mitchell. Inside amenities include new appliances, new HVAC, new bedding & new fireplace. Open living room with wall of windows brings the outside in. Feels like a cozy cabin in the woods but with all the modern conveniences.

The Treehouse is a very nice little home for one or two couples or a family. It was very clean and "as advertised". The location is near a number of great hiking areas and a golf course but isloated from the other neighboring homes. You will not be disappointed.

I'm writing this review a few weeks after our stay, and I'm STILL in the post-vacation afterglow! There are not enough words to describe how wonderful this rental is. Every little detail has been thought of and prepared for. The cabin was above and beyond! Just about everything you could possibly want or need is provided, or can be found in Burnsville or Spruce Pine. The kitchen was well stocked, both with the staple foods and with pots/pans/dinnerware and utensils. We just loved the cast iron skillets. The cabin was very tastefully decorated. Classy but comfortable and unpretentious. We really liked the fact taht it was pet friendly too. It really seemed like we were staying at a family home and not a vacation rental.

The owners were super helpful with any questions we had, as well as tips for fishing the South Toe River and hiking the Pisgah National Forest. They even had trail maps for the hiking trails. It was a little cold over Christmas week, but the toasty woodburning fireplace kept us nice and cozy. And the rocking chairs.....they fit like a glove! We did quite a bit of hiking, fishing, sightseeing in Spruce Pine and we took a drive on the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway up to Mt. Mitchell.

I suggest arriving during daylight, if possible, if you're not used to driving the mountain roads. We white-knuckled it in the rain and dark with a line of people behind us and it can be nerve-wracking. The cabin was easy to find, even in the dark (there's a Treehouse sign at the end of the driveway). The steps from the driveway down to the front stairs can be hard to see at night, so have a flashlight if you're going to arrive late. The laundry on premises was a lifesaver! Note: Be sure to open the dryer vent (black slider gate on the side of the dryer) before using the dryer, and close it when done.

All in all, I would highly recommend the Treehouse. I can't say enough good things about it, or the owners James and Cameron. The cabin was exceptional and the owners were just plain great at communication and answering any and all questions. We're definitely looking forward to our next visit.

The treehouse was great! Exactly what the pictures and description said it was. Very clean and well taken care of! We brought our 3 children ages 11, 16 and 21 as a Christmas gift, a short get a way to spend some much needed quality family time. Our 11 year old stayed in the loft, he loved it! He rubbed it in to his sisters that he had his own little space. My husband and kids went hiking one morning, I stayed behind to enjoy the silence! We planned to go snow tubing at Wolf Ridge ski resort... major disappointment! We think they took pictures from somewhere else and put them on their website.. lol... needless to say, we did not pay to tube on their extremely small "tube run" instead we went back to the treehouse and played some phase 10.. We had a great time making memories and just laughing and having fun. the kitchen is a little small but completely stocked with just about anything you would need. My husband cooked the entire time we were there.. breakfast and dinner... James was great, and easily available, answered any questions. We plan to come back again and bring our boxer...maybe in the fall when the leaves are changing ....

I honestly can't come up with enough positive adjectives to describe the Treehouse. The warm honey color of the wood, everywhere inside is striking and comforting. The deck is amazing. The fireplace is impressive!! All we had to bring was some food and ourselves...everything else is right there. And did I mention the view?? We could have stayed there forever.
The owners are fantastic people and the rental process was flawless.
Thank you so much!!! We hope to visit again during another season :)

Owners were very responsive to all emails.
We had a pleasant stay over a very cold Thanksgiving weekend. (18f at night!) The fireplace and the floor heater worked very well. Bring up extra clean burning logs for the fireplace.
Pictures posted were spot on. Cabin had more items stocked than we anticipated. Pots and pans, mugs, spices/sugar/flour, a gas stove, paper towels, zip bags, cutting boards, toaster, baking pans, laundry detergent for washer & dryer. Kitchen was small, but very well equipped. Deck was larger than anticipated, and overlooked the beautiful mountain range. Sunrises were awesome. There were four Adirondack chairs, plus a picnic table and a BBQ on the deck.
We arrived after dark the first night. I would highly recommend a early arrival time as the winding roads up the mountain can be intimidating, and thankfully this driveway was not a steep incline, as were most of the others in the area.
Drive from the cabin to Asheville took us about 45 mins. Owner recommended taking a specific route to get to the cabin. Please heed this advice, as the other route the GPS recommended was the Blue Ridge Parkway, and was closed when we were there. It may close for winter months, but not entirely sure. Check with owner. Snow/ice would make some roads dangerous in the mountain area. The route to take is to use 19E to the Hwy 80, avoiding the Blue Ridge Parkway in winter.
Two bedrooms on the main living area, and the third upstairs/ loft bedroom is a full size bed, with room for young kids to play. My two daughters, 10 and 8 were happily playing "fort” for several hours. Nice towels/linen. Note, bring your own soap, shampoo & hairdryer.
Library shelf has maps/books, places to visit, which was thoughtful. We did the tourist thing, and visited Gem Mountain, hubby did a bicycle tour – Pisgah Mountain Bikes, and a day in Asheville. We brought up our food, so can’t recommend local establishments. Note: Upon leaving, all garbage must be taken to the local service center, and they are closed on Sundays.
Owners were wonderful to deal with, and have a great sense of humor, as evidenced by decorative touches. Be sure to watch out for the “duck”.
Overall, this was a great quiet place, in the higher area of the mountains. I can only imagine the views in fall would be breathtaking.
Owners continued to maintain contact from initial deposit, through refund process. Very true to their word with our booking.
