The nearby: The Olive Mill is situated in the small village of Quiesa, half way between the historic walled town of Lucca and the golden beaches of Versilia approximately 12 km in either direction. The origins of the olive mill date back to the 14th century from which time it has played an important role in the agricultural history of the Lucca region. The place spans from the fertile reclaimed land bordering the 'Lake of Massaciuccoli' to the hill that faces onto the sea front and Camaiore. However, the area's true crowning glory must certainly be the hamlet of Massaciuccoli, where during the roman era important features were set out that are still clearly visible today. It is here that the remains of a thermal spa complex, villas and houses can be found , together with ceramics dating from the 2nd century BC to the 3rd century AC; these can currently be found in the Civic Museum. From here guests can walk till Compignano or Aquilata mountain where there is a wonderful sight above the hills.
