Dear Robin, I don't believe I've ever stayed in such a well

-supplied vacation rental, you thought of everything, thank you so much. This is a real treat. You made it very easy to relax here, tho we feel like we've hardly made a dent in the pleasures of this part of the big island.

Thank you, Katherine

Frank and I are retired professionals and have lived in Hawaii full-time since about 2008. Before retiring, we lived and raised our family in Portland, Oregon. We have two children, a daughter (24) and a son (22), now both employed in Silicon Valley. We are quite sporty and love a challenging do-it-yourself project. Our yard/garden here in Hawaii has been our main retirement activity. We have tamed and terraced the garden by building rock walls, and we have added extensive concrete pathways and stairs. We swim in the ocean or ride our road bikes almost daily. I am a mosaic artist, and Frank plays guitar and ukulele.

Robin Parisi purchased this cottage in 2006

For years we escaped on vacation from Portland's gray winters to blue Hawaii and, after trying the other islands, kept coming back to the Big Island for its unparalleled ocean swimming, and to Kailua-Kona for its old-time, 'spirit of aloha' small-town atmosphere. We originally bought a sea-level condo, but found that it was too hot and too touristy for our tastes, so we started looking for alternatives.

The little estate of which the cottage is a part was built starting in the late 1970's. We found its all-wood post and beam construction, cedar interiors, cool location, garden setting and beautiful expansive views almost unique in Kona's home market, and fell in love with it the day we first saw it.

BEAUTIFUL PRIVATE COTTAGE ON A LOVELY SECLUDED HOMESTEAD

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at this lovely cottage near Kauilua-Kona on the West side of the Big Island in April, 2014. Beautifully appointed and decorated, with lovely high wood ceilings and classic one-room layout that is perfect for a couple on vacation - even includes an outdoor sitting area overlooking the ocean and town below (perfect for glass of wine to enjoy the sunset or your coffee in the morning!) (the cottage is up in the hills above the town, a short drive only). We completely enjoyed our stay, and would recommend this gem of a cottage to any couple in love. Could not have been more perfect.

PRIVATE COTTAGE, OCEAN VIEW

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our time here. My wife and I are not resort or cruise ship types. We do our own thing when we travel. We like the backdoor philosophy. This place suited our style very well. Nice and private surrounded by tropical grounds at a private residence. Nice ocean view on the hill side. Just to be clear it's a drive to the ocean, but we knew that and it worked well for us. We would stay here again.

WE FELT LIKE SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON, BUT WITH CONVENIENCES

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage very much, not unlike living in a cozy tree house. It was a pleasant surprise having Robin supply the basic breakfast items, including delicious coffee, since we didn't arrive until after midnight. We especially appreciated the use of the beach chairs, cooler, etc. for our daily excursions. The laundry was also very convenient and allowed us to refresh our clothing for the rest of our vacation. Also much appreciated were the detailed instructions provided to locate the property as we arrived after dark. They also provided sheets listing local/cultural information for locating local highlights, restaurants, shopping, activities, etc. which was very helpful. Especially helpful was the ring binder containing manuals for all of the appliances. The tropical gardens gave the appearance of a private retreat. What was really nice was meeting and conversing with Robin and Frank who are great folks and very knowledgeable about the Islands, geography and local culture.

TREE HOUSE RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time in this private retreat. It's away from the crowds but easy to get to beaches, shopping, etc. Our favorite parts were listening to the bird song at dawn and watching the sun going down over the ocean in the evening. The owners are friendly and have thought of everything to make a comfortable stay. We loved it!

COZY LITTLE NEST

  • 5 of 5
On arrival Robin showed us around the property. The room was clean, well furnished, spacious and bright (there are windows on 3 sides). It can get warm in there, but you always get a fresh breeze from the mountain side (plus there are fans on the ceiling if needed).

The location is perfect if you have a car (and you should get one on the big island). On top of a steep hill (more than a 1000 feet over 2 miles) where you can see the water and Kona down below. You can get down there in 5 min using the and take a walk on Ali'i drive.

Everything is included from the beach towel, beach chair, boogie board to the soap in the shower. There is also a fridge and a well equipped kitchen (we had breakfast everyday, made lunches and had some dinner there).

Perfect stay, thanks Robin and Frank!

ABSOLUTELY GREAT!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I had a wonderful time staying here on our Honeymoon! The Cottage is in a great location and had wonderful touches that made us feel at home. The decor was perfect and we appreciated the owner providing us with some small breakfast items since we got in a little late and otherwise wouldn't have had anything for the next morning.

Although there is not a full kitchen, my husband (an executive chef for a catering company) and I cooked here quite a bit! There is a good apartment sized refrigerator, a hot plate, rice cooker, toaster over, and microwave. For coffee in the morning, there is also an electric water heater (that is quick!) and a french press. The quality of the cooking utensils were also pretty good.

Everything is very well maintained and clean in the cottage. Robin provides many extras for use during the day like coolers and chairs that really helped us on our daytime adventures all over the island. We stayed on the Big Island for almost 3 weeks and at two different places in Kona and this was our favorite. The location was convenient, we were away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and the temperature, especially at night for sleeping, is perfect at this elevation. I highly recommend this rental!

The cottage is in the Holualoa area of Kailua-Kona. Kona is the heart of Hawaii Island's 'gold coast,' known for great weather. The cottage's mountain location means that you are removed from tourist traffic, noise and sea-level heat, and instead surrounded by tropical flora and fauna, and 'locals' who call the Big Island home. You can reach numerous beaches within 10 minutes, and many more within 20-30 minutes. The art colony of Holualoa, featuring artists' workshops and galleries, is less than a mile from the cottage. A working coffee farm and tasting room, one of many in South Kona, is less than a half mile. The groceries, farmers' markets, restaurants, boutiques and other attractions in Kailua-Kona and Keauhou are all within a 3-mile, 10-minute drive.

The Big Island is the home of an active volcano, renowned observatories on Mauna Kea's 13,000 foot (4,000 meter) peak, the most extensive coral reefs in the Hawaiian islands (great snorkeling and scuba), famous Kona coffee farms and tasting rooms, great surf breaks, world-class sport fishing, the annual Ironman World Championships, and numerous other attractions. Ocean sports here are some of the best in the world, including swimming, surfing/wave-boarding, stand-up paddling, kayaking, and outrigger canoeing. We frequently see (and swim or kayak) with manta rays, dolphins and humpback whales.

We recommend the guidebook Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed. This guide book covers the entire island and will answer almost any tourist question you have.
