VERY PRIVATE CABIN, WITH STUNNING MOUNTAIN VIEWS, YET ONLY 15 MINUTES FROM TOWN

Buena Vista Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 Br, 1 Bath Off Grid Log Home On 60 Acres, Surrounded By National Forest

This well constructed log home is off grid, but features a fully equipped kitchen with propane appliances, a full bath with a shower/tub combination, and propane lights throughout. Electricity is available if needed using a propane generator. The living area features a wood stove, dining area for 6 and big cushioned benches with great views, along with a couple of recliners to relax in front of the fire. There is a big porch with endless views, equipped with an outdoor table, rocking chairs and Adirondack chairs for relaxing. A deck next to the porch has a bench and is a great place for outdoor grilling. The Master Bedroom has a King Bed; the second bedroom has two twins, and the living room area has cushioned long benches that can accommodate additional sleepers if needed. There is no TV or WiFi in the home, but the cell signal is very good, so portable hot spots are fine. (Hot spots are also readily available in town at various locations). The house sits on 60 acres, surrounded by National Forest, within a couple of miles of the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness Area. Four Mile Creek runs through the narrow valley just below the cabin. With no other homes anywhere in sight, you have wonderful views of the Collegiate Peaks to the west, Buffalo Peaks to the north, and the Sangre de Cristo mountains to the south. A few miles down the road towards town, the Four Mile area offers miles and miles of jeep roads and some singletrack. There are hiking and mountain biking opportunities right out the door of the cabin. Wildlife sightings are frequent. In spite of the wonderful feeling of isolation, the town of Buena Vista is only about 15 minutes away -- with restaurants, bars, and other services. Buena Vista is well know for its whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Arkansas river, as well as for endless hiking and mountain biking trails in the Collegiate Peaks area to the west of town.

I have lived in the Buena Vista area for about 12 years, having moved here from big cities on the East Coast to enjoy the wonderful mountains. I love to travel, but every time I come back to this valley, I am more convinced that there is no better place to live. It is absolutely beautiful here, with the '14ers' of the Collegiate Peaks towering over the 8,000 foot valley, snow-capped for a lot of the year. We enjoy tons of sunshine with Colorado blue skies. Since I love all the things you can do in mountains (trail running, hiking, skiing, showshoeing, biking), this area really has it all for me.

Debbie Farrell purchased this cabin in 2011

While I have a lovely home on the west side of the valley (with great mountain views), I fell in love with this property when I happened upon it on a trail run one day. The views are so expansive and the feeling of having it all to yourself so strong, that I still feel like I exhale the minute I step out onto the porch. One day I'd like to build on the property, but in the meantime, I thought I would offer others that special feeling that I get every time I spend time at the cabin.

I don't even know how to convey how special this property is. A couple of times, I've had barbecues during the day at the cabin for my friends from the area. I find that people stay until the sun goes down because they don't want to leave the porch. (The photo above was a recent birthday party up there.) It's also a great feeling to just stroll out of the cabin down to the creek or across the road up to the (local secret) mountain bike trail along the ridge line.

ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE 360 DEGREE VIEWS

  • 5 of 5
Where do I start? Its like you have one Million acres all to yourself. The Cabin is very well built and plenty of space, well maintained and everything you need. We stayed 6 fabulous nights and with so much to see and do could have stayed a month (we may do just that next year). The King size bed was very comfy, 2 recliners facing the fireplace, kitchen was fully equipped no problem being off grid. THE FRONT PORCH!!! bar none the best I have ever viewed from. At night the lights of Buena Vista below with Mountains all around was a real treat, loved that.
There is a 3 to 4 hour hike starting right at the property that we just loved, and the gorgeous Colorado scenery changes with every step you take. You can hike, bike, walk your dog and never run into another person. Private, secluded and gated.
We also did the Zip Line in Salida and Trainride in Leadville, both only 30 min away. Both were great and would recommend but our favorite was getting back to the Cabin for Grilling on the Weber, making a fire in the fireplace and enjoying the fabulous views from the porch. My kind of "Heaven on Earth". Thank you Debbie, you have a precious jewel one of a kind.

AMAZING VIEWS

  • 5 of 5
What amazing views. We drove in at night and woke up the next morning with 360 degree amazing views right from the deck. We went on a 8 mile hike that was quite intense but was only a 5 min drive from our cabin and went on several other smaller hikes that were all within 5 minutes or we just walked out from the cabin. The cabin is all you need it to be nothing special. Wish that there was a microwave and some more counter space but that is nit picking. There were 2 mice in the cabin but that is expected in a remote place like this. The trail down to the creek had some really disturbing signs that were posted by the neighbor but we had no problems with him just needed to be warned. Our water went out the night before we went white water rafting for the day and by the time we got home Debbie had a repairman there and it was fixed within an hour of us being there. We were shocked that she got it fixed so quickly and she was out of town at the time so coordinating with the repairman probably wasn't the easiest thing. Everything else was great. The instructions for the cabin were easy to understand and the deck and chairs made for a great, relaxing environment. I still can't get over the views. Along with many hiking trails the property is very secluded on miles of ATV trails. Buena Vista is a nice town with everything you need in it but we did not spend a lot of time there. The white water rafting was amazing and though we drove to Canon City to raft in the royal gorge you could have stayed in Buena Vista and had numerous options. I hope the negatives in this review don't scare anyone off because as a whole our trip was great.

Owner's Response: We are always on the look out for the ways that mice get in -- and found and plugged the tiny hole that was the issue before the next guest arrived. I also removed the disturbing signs (with the permission of the fellow that put them up) -- they date back to the previous owner of my property who allowed anybody on his land with the result that ATVs and hunters used to show up at this guy's place on the creek.

What a great cabin. Phenomenal views, away from it all, but very easy to get to and explore the Arkansas river valley from.

AMAZING!

Absolutely amazing cabin - it is even better in person than it looks on the pictures (hard to believe!). The owner was great to work with. Far enough away from town to "get away," but close enough to go in for dinner or shopping.

AMAZING PROPERTY!

  • 5 of 5
My sister, mother and I stayed at the ranch for two nights, and after arriving to a clear sky full of stars, immediately wished we could have stayed longer. We have stayed at numerous properties throughout Colorado and beyond, and this was by far our favorite. The cabin was spotless upon our arrival and Debbie, the owner, met us at the ranch to show us how to light the overhead propane lights since we weren't sure how to do it. She has also left a binder full of great information about restaurants and hiking/biking trails in the area. In the binder she has included directions, as well as information on the difficulty of the trails, for both formal and informal trails in the area which was super helpful for planning hiking routes. The rooms were very comfortable with lovely down comforters and quilts over top. The shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water for cleaning up after a day of hiking. While the cabin was comfortable and clean inside, the real selling point of this property is the location and view both of which were exactly as pictured and described in the VRBO listing. We spent a lot of our time exploring the property with our dogs and venturing down to the creek where we saw two moose as well as a herd of elk. This property was perfect for retreating away from the city and we are greatly looking forward to staying here again!

The cabin is located 7 miles from Buena Vista, with unbelievable views of the Collegiate Peaks and Buffalo Peaks areas. Hiking, Mountain Biking, ATVing, Fly Fishing, and Hunting opportunities abound in this area. The Cabin is less than 2 miles from the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness area. On 60 acres, surrounded by National Forest, there are no other houses in sight of the cabin, but you are still only about 15 minutes to the town of Buena Vista, with restaurants, bars, a good grocery store, liquor stores and other services. From the high promontory, you will see mountains in all directions and lots of wildlife.
