CUTE, COZY AND COMFORTABLE!

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I stayed for a week at Pele's Tiki Hale. The cabin is spacious enough for two, well-appointed, clean, and comfortable. We had everything we needed for a relaxing stay: a comfortable bed, kitchen and dining accoutrements, bathroom needs, and drinking water (Volcano residents rely on the catchment system for their water needs and have to purchase drinking water.) The cabin almost seems like it's in the middle of a forest clearing as the place is surrounded by lush vegetation. There is a next-door neighbor (which is comforting) but there is total privacy and quiet in the cabin's location. It is lovely to go to bed at night lulled by the sound of falling rain and trees rustling in the wind and to wake to birds chirping. We also appreciated the strong wifi signal so we could relax in the lanai with our tablets with no drop in internet access. The two ceiling windows make the place bright and cheery. There is a gas stove in the lanai and that's where we cooked some simple meals rather than the hot plate in the kitchen. We did have a 5 minute drive to Volcano Village (for food, laundry and groceries) and another few minutes to Volcano National Park. Considering we stayed a week and drove back and forth at least a couple of times per day, we might have used up more gas than we would have liked. But this is a minor quibble. We would have appreciated a seating area inside the cabin. Temperatures were in the mid- to high 60s when we were there and often, sitting in the lanai got too cold. It would have been nice to be able to retreat inside and have a comfortable place to sit and read. We ended up propped up against the window atop the bed as the folding chairs in the dining area are not amenable for this purpose. I suppose there's really no space inside for 2 arm chairs unless perhaps the owners can get better and more stable chairs in place of the folding ones. Perhaps the loft could be turned into a cozy seating area. The loft is lovely and certainly has the potential to become a special spot but I understand that older people may not easily be able to climb the ladder to get up there. At any rate, Pele's Tiki Hale was a good option for us and we would be happy to recommend the place to couples wishing to spend time at Volcano National Park.

LOVELY AND COZY COTTAGE NESTLED IN THE RAINFOREST

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed here three nights during our honeymoon trip to the Big Island. We loved it! After being in Kona for several days, it was nice to escape to Volcano. The cottage is nestled back in the woods, very quiet and dark. The bed is so comfortable and we slept great listening to the rain coming down each night. It's very small, and I was worried we would feel cramped, but we didn't at all! There was plenty of room and the upstairs loft was really cool! The skylights in the ceiling and the big windows are a nice touch and make the place feel bigger. There was enough space in the kitchen to cook, which is great because Volcano is a very sleepy town with few restaurants (and some that aren't even open for dinner). It's very close to the park, and is a great place to stay for a few days if you plan on hiking and enjoying the park. We also loved the shower; showering in filtered rain water felt so good on the skin! Now that we are back home with hard water we are really missing that glorious soft water. I definitely recommend this place for any couples looking for a romantic secluded getaway. It's very peaceful!

GREAT LITTLE ESCAPE

  • 5 of 5
Spent a great weekend getaway here with the purpose of visiting the volcano. The location was perfect for what we wanted, a couple miles from the volcano and close to Hilo and the turtle beach. Joy is very considerate and helpful and accommodating. The only issue we had was the lack of warm water on the first night which another reviewer mentioned. This was quickly fixed after Joy told us that it works better if the heater isn't turned on at the same time.
This property was clean and had everything we needed for a day at the volcano or the beach. We would stay here again!

COZY WITH BEAUTIFUL WOOD WORK

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our stay at Pele Tiki Hale surrounded by thick vegetation. The connected covered car port was a blessing from the frequent rains. Inside the studio has warm inviting wood work and cute small loft providing an extra bed. There was no TV but the wireless was a strong signal and fast. We found that Verizon was a much stronger signal than AT&T which has been the case for much of the big island. The only downside was after a day of hiking in the rain it would have been nice if shower water temperature could have been hotter. With the dial on the hottest setting, the water was lukewarm after 2 minutes. That said, the radiant floor heating was very nice and efficient. Overall the stand alone building was private and the attention to details inside was filled with thought and care.

Owner's Response: So sorry you experienced not so hot water! Sometimes this does happen if taking a shower while the radiant heater is on since they are both fighting for the hot water. I will put a note to any future guests about this. My apologies!!!
