Beech Mountain Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Plus Loft

Remodeled Summer 2013, this beautiful Beech Mountain, North Carolina “Round House” is nestled among the tree tops at an elevation of 4580’ and is less than a mile from the Beech Mountain Ski Resort entrance. All new furnishings include custom kitchen cabinetry, mattresses, linens, and more for your ultimate comfort get-a-way. The living room has a new stone façade 42” fire place with gas logs (no messy firewood needed!). The best part is turning on the fireplace is as easy as flipping on the light switch. While cozying up by the fireplace, you can watch the 55” Smart TV or your favorite DVD. You will enjoy cooking your favorite comfort foods in the custom kitchen fully equipped with stainless appliances and porcelain farm sink. Solid walnut countertops add to the beauty of the kitchen. Enjoy meals or play games at the large dining table made with reclaimed white oak wood. You will appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of the reclaimed hardwood floors salvaged from an 1830’s barn in Wisconsin.

Bring the marshmallows and make some memories by the outdoor fire pit. The fire pit is located next to the rolling creek running through the property. Relaxation and memory making at its best!

Each bedroom has a custom built queen size bed with drawers for your personal storage. Along with new mattresses, you’ll be sure to stay cozy and comfortable with the dual controlled electric blankets for those cool Beech Mountain nights. The loft is a perfect set up for children with a twin day bed and trundle, child size activity table, games, toys, and 32” Smart TV. A huge outdoor deck was rebuilt for reading, dining, and listening to the soothing sounds of the creek on the property. The newest addition is a large outdoor flagstone patio and fire pit. This is the perfect area for outdoor family fun. The gazebo span’s the creek and is a perfect place to have a tea party for princesses or be a castle and moat for young knights. Beech Mountain boasts a summer temperature rarely above 80 degrees and an average winter snowfall of 80” (many winters having much more)! Depending on the season, spend your day hiking, fishing, mountain biking, golfing, whitewater rafting, skiing, sledding, ice skating, shopping, or relaxing on the couch. It doesn’t get much more peaceful than this!

Although the roads are maintained by the Town of Beech Mountain, a 4-Wheel or All-Wheel drive vehicle or snow chains are recommended during the winter months.

About Stephen Litchfield

Our family currently resides on the coast of South Carolina. While we truly enjoy the Lowcountry with the water and beach we do love our time on Beech Mountain when we get a chance to head up there. Our kids love playing in the creek outside and seeing all the wildlife on the mountain. With all the activities on the mountain there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Stephen Litchfield purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Stephen Litchfield chose Beech Mountain

If elevation is your desire, then this is the place! Beech Mountain is the highest incorporated town east of the Mississippi. Being less than a mile from the ski slopes was important as was the unique location of the house. We wanted to have as much snow as possible and found the perfect home.

What makes this cottage unique

You want to choose our property if peace and tranquility are important to you. One of our favorite features of the house is the creek. It is usually rolling with water from mountain run off and there is nothing more peaceful than sitting on the deck or by the fire pit listening to it. The children love turning over rocks looking for salamanders, crawfish, etc.

We also fell in love with the wildlife and nature surrounding us. Its amazing what you will see just while watching out the window.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for making this home available for us to rent! This place has so many wonderful features, and we'll be so sad when we have to leave. Everything about it is perfect, and I for one, hope that we can visit the beautiful place again.

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5
This is an absolutely wonderful home on a creek. If you have the windows open, you can hear the sounds of the creek throughout the house. The house has every luxury, from the comfortable beds to smart tvs and wifi. The kitchen is beautifully stocked with anything you might need. The outside fire pit area is right on the creek. There is even a gazebo my daughter liked to go in to read, which is also on the creek. We stayed for two weeks and there was not one thing the house did not have that we needed. The house was also spotlessly clean, which was greatly appreciated. There are lots of hiking trails around the property and a rec center that you can pay a daily rate for to do different sports activites. All in all, a great place to stay!

Owner's Response: A two week stay is a wonderful getaway! We also enjoy visits to the rec center, especially the free fishing poles they let the kids use. Thank you for your kind words and I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. We would love to welcome your family again!

Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5
This experience went above and beyond. The homeowners have gone well above expectations to make sure that your stay is comfortable. Every little detail was thought of; there are soaps lotions, chapstick samples in the bathrooms; ziploc bags, detergent, and soaps in the kitchen/laundry; and pack-n-plays, toys and baby gates for the little ones. On top of that, the place was immaculate! Everything looked brand new! Additionally, the homeowners respond very quickly. We had a problem where we couldn't figure out how to lock the front door. They responded very quickly through email and offered for us to call them on the provided land line to walk us through it. You can tell that the owners take pride in their home! One side note: make sure to have a 4WD for the winter. My husband pulled out two neighboring vacationers who had gotten themselves stuck.

Owner's Response: What a Good Samaritan! Yes, we do recommend AWD/4WD in the winter. We personally do not have AWD/4WD vehicle, but keep snow cables just in case of emergency. Luckily we have not had to use them. We are pleased you enjoyed the little extras and had a wonderful experience!

Awesome Kitchen & Perfect for Families with Kids!

Awesome Kitchen & Perfect for Families with Kids!
  • 5 of 5
Thank you for the great time at your place! We were really impressed with your quick response and your helping us out when we had questions. Your home in the mountains is absolutely beautiful. The beds were incredibly comfortable. We tried a restaurant called the Painted Fish in Banner Elk which was excellent, but we did most of our own cooking as the kitchen had everything we needed to make anything we wanted. We went to the mountains to celebrate our daughter's 3rd birthday and to play in the snow. We were blessed with a gorgeous snow on her birthday! She was in cloud nine in the loft with all the toys. Her favorite was the little play oven she could make pretend pies in. She helped me make a real birthday cake in your awesome kitchen, and we had absolutely everything we needed in the kitchen to bake her cake. The deer stopped by on the evening we arrived, and again on the morning we departed! We don't get to see deer very often at home, so it was really special. I've already been recommending your place to people. We hope to be back soon! Thanks again for the wonderful time.

Owner's Response: We are so glad she enjoyed her birthday! I couldn't think of a better place to spend it than playing in the snow and baking a cake. I love that she had fun playing with the toys in the loft. We love the deer, and if its the same ones we've been watching all year, it is a mother and her two babies. We've enjoyed watching them grow up too!

Lovely Beech Mountain

  • 4 of 5
This cabin was very clean, nicely decorated and well equipped for our needs. You can definitely tell a lot of heart went into the remodeling of this cabin. The fireplace pilot light was out and the gas company came promptly and handled the issue. The owners replied quickly to questions about the cabin and were very easy to work with, even let us know the minute the cabin was ready for check in (which I thoroughly appreciated after a couple days driving with teen boys!). For me I enjoyed having a nice kitchen to cook in and washer/dryer to keep up with the laundry, but the kids and hubby loved the stream and fire-pit right outside the front door. The stairs to the door is a bit of a hike (I would love to see some traction put on them somehow since we were not used to the ice or the incline). Overall we had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this cabin to friends and even return if we are in the area again.

Owner's Response: We couldn't agree with you more that the elevation and incline are difficult to get used to! It is also a challenge for us coming from an elevation of 7' to an elevation of 4600', but once you're there it's worth it! We are pleased your needs were met and hopefully you remained toasty by the fireplace the remainder of your stay.

We had an awesome time at this cozy house. Besides the excellent taste, everything was brand new, from appliances to towels. Being from Miami and originally from Brazil, this was the perfect winter vacation. And we had a white Christmas! Thanks for the attention to details. Will be back again!

Close drive to Lake Coffey

Lake Coffey is one of Beech Mountain’s signature neighborhood parks nestled off of Lakeledge Rd. Lake coffey is a great place to fish as it is stocked regularly with mountain trout. Coffey park is also a great place for exercise with its ¼ mile walking track around the lake, basketball court, and of course since it serves as the junction point for Beech Mountain’s premier upper and lower pond creek trails. You can enjoy an entire day at this wonderful park!

3.5 miles to Buckeye Recreation Center and Buckeye Lake

The Buckeye Lake Recreation Area is a 60+ acre recreation preserve that includes the 23,000 sq. ft. Buckeye Recreation Center, playground, falls hiking trail, a large picnic pavilion, non-motorized boat dock, numerous fishing access points, and a community bonfire pit.

Beech Community Sledding Hill

Beech Mountain is home to the High Country’s only free, publicly maintained and groomed (complete with artificial snow making) community sledding hill. The sledding hill park opens Thanksgiving weekend, weather permitting and remains open through the first of march, again weather permitting. Located atop Beech Mountain neighboring the Town Hall and Chamber of Commerce/Visitors Center, you are sure to enjoy this wonderful winter park complete with holiday music and lots of winter cheer! Please note, the sledding hill is for children under 12 years old, closes at dark, and we ask that you only use plastic sleds.
