No noise, no pollution or stress, 3 bedrooms, 6 persons

'Manoir du Morvan' is the name of our farmhouse, which is located in the 'Morvan', a wildlife protected park area, approximately 19 km from the motorway A 6 exit Avallon. 'Pure Nature - for everyone who wants a holiday free from noise, pollution and stress. 'Manoire du Morvan' is a lovely restored 150 year old farmhouse, which has been made into a cosy holiday home but with modern amenities. All kinds of water sports are available on five lakes that can be reached by car within fifteen minutes drive, including wind-surfing, kayaking, rafting and fishing. Walking, tennis, climbing, mountain biking and riding or even Quad-bike riding facilities are all available. Golf:17, places to go in 1-1,5 h by car. Burgundy belongs to one of the most culturally important areas of Europe and has many villages dating from the middle ages, castles and monasteries e.g. the Basilisk from Vezelay, Auxerre, Chablis. The owner and his lovely dog lives in a separate part of the house.

The owners: The owners are well-educated, our house is a lovely restored 150 years old farmhouse, which has been made into a cosy holiday home but with modern amenities. The farmhouse has been in the same family for six generations. We like to get in contact with our guests in giving them ideas to the way of living in France, in proposing them all kinds of amusements or organising trips and visiting tours. We speak English, French and German. We also like to welcome the 50plus generation, which likes to do sports, which has cultural interests and wants to know more about French cuisine and wonderful wine.

Burgundy has the most freshwater lakes in France with unlimited sporting possibilities including wind-surfing, kayaking, rafting and fishing. Walking, tennis, climbing, mountain biking and riding or even Quad-bike riding facilities are all available or simply enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. Golf: 17 places to go, 9 with 18 holes, in app. 1 hour max. 1,5 hour ride by car. Burgundy belongs to one of the most culturally important areas of Europe and has many villages dating from the middle ages, castles, monasteries e.g. Avallon, Auxerre, the famous Basilisk from Vezelay, meeting point from August II and Richard the lionhearted, 1190, to organise the third crusade. Good food and wine, e.g. Chablis, have made this area world famous. Excursions, wine tasting and restaurant visits can also be organised for you.

The location of this house is wonderful, countryside absolutely beautiful and the garden idyllic. The Jacuzzi looked great - just as the photos show.

The pretty house is listed on this site as detached and that is true, what was not clear to us was that we would be sharing the house and our holiday with a fairly large dog and the german and french owners.

The french owner was actually sleeping in one of the three bedrooms pictured which I thought was a bit cheeky. This reflected the owners attitude - very friendly, but rather more as if you are guests/family in their home than tenants who have rented a detached house and expect the privacy that comes with it.

On a practical note, the interior of the house was a bit tatty and in need of renovation. It was also very dusty - which is surprising as they charge for cleaning. The layout is a bit tricky if you have a baby and small child, as we do, as the stairs are outside the house and all bedrooms upstairs. Also, remember that you need to take all your own sheets, towels etc - this is not standard for this area but it is the case here.

In summary, if you are happy to share your space this could be ideal for you. If not, you may be disappointed as we were.

The owners say that other tenants had been more than happy with their holidays in this house. However, there are a number of good gites in this area and we moved to one after one night in this house. This area of Burgundy really is worth a visit - my family and I come back year after year.
