About The Hydeout:

Our 1928 bungalow has been tastefully renovated to blend historic charm with modern convenience. The home has central heating and A/C. The plumbing and electrical systems were updated in 2005. Our open kitchen features stone counters and stainless steel appliances. Living/Dining Room combo’s refinished original oak floors extend into one bedroom with a queen bed and another with 2 twins. The original bathroom was reconstructed from the studs out in 2008. The 1928 Claw foot tub with shower conversion is not original, but it adds the perfect vintage flair to compliment a new pedestal sink, commode and hexagonal tile floor. Another bathroom was added in 2007 with river rock floor and large walk-in shower. It feels like a miniature spa. Our home also features a large, bright second living area with a pull out sofa and 50” HD TV and DVD player. There is a dog-friendly backyard as well as an outdoor living area with large rock patio, table, chairs, grill and fire pit.

About The Neighborhood:

Hyde Park or Hyde Park Historic District is a neighborhood in Austin, Texas, USA. Located in Central Austin, Hyde Park is defined by W. 38 Street to the south, Guadalupe Street to the west and W. 51 Street to the north. It is situated just north of the University of Texas (UT) and borders the neighborhoods of Hancock and North Loop. Hyde Park traces its origins back to 1891 and is considered to be Austin's first master planned community. Monroe Martin Shipe originally developed the neighborhood in 1891 as an affluent streetcar suburb with a large artificial lake, but it has since become one of the most densely populated areas in the city's urban core. Hyde Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

UT Shuttle IF has 2 stops nearby and takes riders to Daryl K. Royal Stadium. Austin Metro # 5 picks up on the corner and goes right into Downtown, or a cab is $10 to the heart of 6th Street where you will have everything else nearby!

The place was very clean and offered plenty of room for our family of four. The house was within a very short drive to the grocery store and a wide selection of restaurants. A kitchen well stocked with cookware and an open floor plan was great for hosting our friends. Turnkey was very responsive with inquiries and was available 24 hours. Would definitely stay here again

February vacation

Hyde Park is a great place to stay; Quack's bakery/coffee shop and Mother's restaurant were great. The house was quite nice and well located in the Austin area. The kitchen was very roomy and well stocked kitchenware. The shower in the back bathroom was great but the sink had very little water pressure. I think the pressure is so low that it did not activate the on demand water heater. The only way we could get hot water in that sink was to turn on the hot water somewhere else, usually the kitchen sink.
It was quite cold for some of the time and we had trouble with the thermostat. It is an old, balky programmable thermostat that is controlled using an attached plastic stylus on a touch screen. I managed to figure out how to manually change the temperature setting but never could figure out how to change the programming, which raised and lowered the setting at odd times. This relic should definitely be replaced.
The only other issue was a band that practiced in the house across the street. They mostly did this during the day and early evening.

Overall, I have to say it was quite nice. There are a few drawbacks, but the positives outweigh them. The dryer vent was misaligned and spewing into the interior of the house, the front door is not really secure, the neighboring apartment complex makes the back patio a little less private than a typical patio, the hot water on demand takes a bit of getting used to, and be prepared for a chill in the air inside if visiting in winter....the HVAC system works fine, but a pier and beam house built in 1928 always has a chill. The beds are comfy, the baths are updated, the kitchen is servicable, the grill works, the neighborhood is walkable and friendly, the location is convenient, checking in is easy, etc. The owner did show up one day to show the property unannounced. In case the managers read this, you need to have the American Elm looked at. There is a very big split in one of the large branches overhanging the house.
