About Jerry Gundersen

We are a writer and an apparel designer, we are parents to kids and dogs, and we love to share our beautiful spot on the planet. We like hiking, biking, boating, picking mushrooms and blackberries, cooking, reading and good conversation.

Jerry Gundersen purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Jerry Gundersen chose Bainbridge Island

It's perfectly situated with a view of Puget Sound, Blake Island and the one and only Mount Rainier. It's a quiet place for reading, writing and dreaming, and a fun place for active sports, too.

What makes this cottage unique

Spectacular scenery, wonderful walks, nearby shopping, eating and entertainment, including a historic movie theater from 1936. Attending an event at The Manor House? Stay in the guest house, which is a short walk down the beach.

A lovely spot for a girls getaway. Thoughtful amenities, like a popcorn machine! And very close to a peaceful beach and estuary.

Sunny southeast superb!

  • 5 of 5

What a great weekend! Susan & Jerry are terrific hosts --- this cottage (is that the word?) is a blend of fantasy and modernity. A "topsy-turvy" architectural design that is really enchanting, and just a skip to the beach (not directly visible from the house, but is immediately beyond the garden). And what a view! Their spot on the beach is front and center to the bay/inlet that frames the majestic Mount Rainier straight ahead, and the Bremerton ferry glides by silently but in the not-so-distant beyond. The home is very cozy without being cramped, very high ceiling and the place is tastefully decorated. The hosts treated us on arrival to chocolate, wine and a signed copy of Susan's NY Times bestselling novel. They welcomed our dog (note that there isn't a sidewalk, so options are on the beach, on the side of the road, or around the grounds).

Great House in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over the Labor day weekend and had a great time, it was perfect for what we were looking for. The main highlights were:

- The house itself is modern and very well equipped - with cable TV, wifi, kitchen equipment, towels, toiletries etc. The owners have done a great job of making sure that the small details have been taken care of in a very thoughtful way (e.g. very nice gifts on arrival, and a great information packet with guides to get to the house and things to do in the area). It's not huge, but is perfect for a couple or small family with one main (very comfortable) bed, plus 4 bunk beds.

- The immediate location of the house is also great - it's on a very quiet cove at the south end of Bainbridge which is sheltered and has amazing views of Rainier. It's a 30 yard walk from the front door to the beach, and it's a private beach so very quiet. It would be a perfect place to take Kayaks or Paddleboards (we wished we did that)

- There's also a really nice new 'town' about 1/2 mile away from the house. It has a really nice restaurant (beach house), tavern, cafes, grocery store, burger house etc - in other words you don't have to go very far to have everything you need. That being said, it's less than 10 minutes to get to Eagle Harbor, with its own amenities and restaurants.

Overall it was a very positive experience - the owners were great to deal with and we had a great time - high recommended!

Wonderful beach retreat

  • 5 of 5

My two teen sons and I enjoyed our stay at the Bainbridge beach guesthouse! It's a very charming and nicely-appointed cottage just steps away from the beach. Need to be OK with close quarters. The landscaping is particularly appealing. Paddle boarding and chats around our late night beach bonfire were wonderful. Walk down the beach to cute shops and restaurants. Great launching spot to explore the town and all that the peninsula offers. I would definitely return.

We loved our time at Point White Guest House! The house was lovely and in a beautiful spot. Anything we could possibly have needed had already been taken care of. We were all very comfortable and had a great time.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This a really nice, peaceful place to stay. We traveled each day back and forth to Seattle on the ferry (and the guest house is only 15 min away from the ferry dock), but this is also a great place if you want to spend all your time on Bainbridge. There are several places to eat nearby, including a 4 star restaurant.

The owners live in the main house several hundred feet away, but they respect your privacy (but are also very friendly about inviting you over). You can use the fire pit at their home, which is right on the water with a great view of Rainier.

The place is very well-equipped, but do not expect to do any extensive cooking there (the owners are very clear about what the kitchen includes, and we didn't plan to cook there, but you should be aware of this). You can easily sleep 6, but be aware that there is only one (very nice) bathroom so you have to keep this in mind if you have 6 staying here. The beds are very comfortable.

Overall, it worked out very well for us. We wanted to spend all of our time in Seattle, but wanted a quiet, pretty get away, and this worked perfectly.
