My wife Nancy and I, William, live in Polk City, Florida. Nancy is from New Jersey and I was born and raised in Fort Myers, Florida. We met at the First Baptist Church in West Hollywood, Florida.
I served four years in the Air Force. Nancy and I attended the Bible Baptist Seminary now known as Arlington Baptist College in Arlington, Texas. Here we studied for the ministry and I graduated in 1962.
We organized a church and Christian School in south Florida where we served for 14 years. From there we moved to Ocala, Florida and organized Abundant Funds, a fund raising company for private Christian Schools serving schools in 24 states. In 2008 Abundant Funds merged with another Christian Company and I went into 'semi' retirement. I still work with Christian Schools part time with a company founded by my youngest son
William Roberts purchased this cabin in 2005
Nancy and I wanted a place close by to get away from it all and a place where our four sons and their families could enjoy and relax with their families (sixteen grandchildren and one great). The river cabin is also a place we can invite friends on special occasions. We had a choice between the Gulf and the River. Nancy chose the river and it has proven to be an excellent choice.
Our cabin on the river offers scenery and relaxation. Unfortunately we are only using the cabin about 25% of the time. Our bills continue 100% of the time. We decided to place the cabin on the rental program and make it available to others.

The cabin is in a rustic setting on the river. This is total change of scenery and being on the water is super relaxing. Across the river from the cabin is the Weeki Wachee Perserve where we observe all types of wildlife and of course the river is full of many varieties of fish and manatees.
My husband, children and I stayed at the river house for a long weekend. Within 5 minutes of being at the house I was in love with everything. The house was clean and offered every amenity you could want from a river house. My goal was to spend as much time outside with my kids as possible. We fished, we canoed, we swam, jumped off of trees and grill out in the back yard. When we woke up Sunday morning 3 manatees greeted us right off the dock. It was an amazing and breath taking experience. We have decided to make this an annual family tradition. We had the most amazing experience at the river house. We have recommended the experience to everyone we know.
My wife and the kids had a wonderful stay it was just to short. Would have loved to stay longer. I and the children enjoyed swimming and kayaking in the springs. We had many wildlife get up close and personal visits from many different birds. Recommend to anyone who enjoys the out doors. The Manatees swimming by and visiting was great. The cabin was great the inside was very nice and really kept everyone comfortable and together. Grill was great enjoyed most meals from it during our stay. We ate mainly on the porch outside which really made the stay even better. 4 teenagers all got up earlier then normal and went outside and we're not constantly attached to phones. That alone was amazing to see and was a welcome surprise to see them enjoy natural surroundings. Loved the stay and have recommended the place to others already. Hope to be back next year.
This place is a wonder! The rustic exterior belies the coziness and comfort within. My husband and I rented for the month of February, sharing the first week with my sister and brother-in-law. We are all retired. The two bedrooms afforded us privacy. The full bath accommodated all of us nicely. The kitchen was more than adequate for all our needs. We loved using the gas grill for most of our dinners. The roof over the porch shielded us from too much sun or the occasional rain. The docks offered perfect viewing of manatees and
other wildlife. Even on cold days, the view from inside, looking out the French doors, gave way to the peaceful scenery of the river and its environs. The availability of the washer and dryer right on the porch was indispensable. We were amazed at how clean, dry and cozy the cabin was. We had expected some mustiness or dampness, being on the river and in so
rustic an area, but we were cozy and warm, despite the almost record cold. The beds left a little to be desired in comfort, but that is the only small weakness we found in this idyllic setting.
An assortment of diverse restaurants are nearby, making dining out a real temptation. We enjoyed driving to Linda Pedersen Park, only a few miles away, to watch the manatees. We walked and watched there every day. Grocery shopping is also conveniently located only a few miles away.
The owners called to check on our arrival. They were easy to contact if there were any questions.
We loved this place and plan to return next year.
As promised, this river cabin has a rustic facade, which I found charming and appropriate for the natural setting. Meanwhile the interior has modern appliances. What I liked most about this rental was that it was on the river, making it exceedingly easy to launch my new inflatable kayak whenever I felt like getting out on the water. One day, I took the Kayak Shop shuttle, which dropped me and my kayak at the beginning of a three-hour downstream scenic kayak trip back to the shuttle agency, where I picked up my car. The cost was very reasonable.
The cabin's location was ideal for me: my brother's house was only 1.5 hours away, Tampa was about an hour, and Withlacoochee State Forest, where I hiked and camped with Panama City friends, was 40 minutes away.
The owners were very nice, and thought of my well-being. Without being intrusive, they contacted me to inquire if all was well. When I had trouble re-booking for next year because of a glitch in the reservation system, the owners quickly solved the problem.
I mostly made my own meals. Among the restaurants I did go to, I liked Magdalena's, which serves inexpensive German meals; and Bella Napoli, an Italian restaurant that has wonderful calamari.
This natural setting on bank of Weeki Wachee provides privacy and good views of nature including birds and occasional manatee. Interior is quite modern with all appliances one could ask for. There is plenty of yard space for parking. Canoe was used extensively for river exploration. Was down from NY with wife and 2 adult children for father's 90th birthday party - a good time was had by all.
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at this nicely remodeled cabin right on the Weeki Wachee River. We floated the river multiple times, relaxed in the nicely furnished cabin, and toured the surrounding area. Nearby attractions include the Mermaid Show at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, Pine Island Beach, Homosassa Springs State Park, the Withlicoochee 46 mile paved bike trail, and several other parks and historic sites. The cabin is clean, nicely furnished, and very peaceful. There are nice newer appliances, beds, deck on the river and a canoe to borrow. The air conditioner worked great. We think it was one of the best retreats we have ever stayed in.
Our cabin is located directly on the crystal clear Weeki Wachee River at one of the widest parts of the river. It is across from the Weeki Wachee preserve where you will experience the wildlife and beauty of Florida’s Nature Coast. It’s Florida at its finest with our two new, gorgeous inviting docks (24x24 / 8x24) to view our animal neighbors: manatees, river otters, herons, ibis, and eagles frequent the river both at our docks and across the river on the Weeki Wachee Preserve. See the fish clear to the bottom and swim with the gentle manatees that make daily treks by our home. Only 20 minutes by boat to the Gulf of Mexico. Bring your boat, canoe, kayak or paddle board, or just rent them nearby. You may also want to visit the Weeki Wachee Springs State Waterpark with the world-famous LIVE MERMAID SHOW and Weeki Wachee Canoe rentals (15 minutes), the white sand beach at Pine Island on the Gulf (20 minutes), Rogers Park, 3 acre sandy beach on the Weeki Wachee has roped off swimming area, volley ball court, playground, boat ramp, and kayak ramp. (5 minutes). At the end of the day you can cook your own catch on the cabin gas grill and lounge on the two docks or dine at one of many great local restaurants. Within 20 minutes you can choose from two state parks equipped with pavilions, picnic benches, grills and fishing spots. Fishing boats for deep fishing in the Gulf are also available. Just an hour north of Tampa and St. Petersburg and minutes from Hernando Beach, restaurants, and shopping. Only two hours to Orlando theme parks (Sea World, Disney World, MGM & Universal Studios ). 30 minutes north to Homosassa Wildlife State Park or 20 minutes south to the BIRD SANCTUARY in Aripeka, Florida.
A lot to see and do in the area. ENJOY &RELAX.
