About Sarah Mellaci

We moved here from Colorado where I grew up and still love to this day. Went to college in Durango, another incredible place to live and enjoy the outdoors. I also worked for the airlines and travelled extensively throughout the world and enjoy meeting new people from around the world!

Sarah Mellaci purchased this house in 2005

Why Sarah Mellaci chose Kailua Kona

I moved here after visiting and staying at a neighbors cottage in 2003. I simply fell in love with this area and knew I had to live here. We bought 6 acres and built this guesthouse first, last year we completed building our main house and decided to rent our guesthouse so more people including our friends and family could experience how incredible this area is.

What makes this house unique

What made us fall in love with this area is the incredible stars at night and full moons over the forest, it is simply amazing. The temperature in the daytime is ideal and at night you need a sweater a nice alternative after being hot at the beach or after exploring. Sunsets are beautiful as well and the peace and quiet of the area, all of this while being less than 10 minutes to multiple activities and stores! The privacy you have is extremely difficult to find and makes your visit truly unique!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful week long stay at Sarah's house. The house is even better than it appears in the photos. It is on a beautiful street in the mountains and feels remote and secluded while being just a short drive to beautiful beaches, supermarkets and all other amenities. The house is incredibly comfortable with everything you need and sarah could not have been more helpful.

our stay during Ironman

  • 5 of 5
WE absolutely loved our stay in this lovely house. It is exactly as the description and Sarah and her family are very welcoming.
The house is well equipped, clean and there is everything you need. We really appreciated the quietness and the fresh air in the evening. Loved hanging around in the garden in the evening star gazing.
So quiet but yet close to town...just thinking about it wants me coming back there right now..
Hopefully we ll be back next year..

Very comfortable house, very quiet and just a few minutes from the beaches and the town. An ideal location for exploring the West Coast. We had a great time there.

Home in the Clouds

  • 5 of 5
My 9 yr. old son & I spent our HI vaca. in the "ohana" house in the cloud forest & I can say, w/o hesitation, that it was a truly magical rental. It was very clear frm. the minute we entered, that Sarah had not missed a beat in attending to every thought & detail of this remarkable, luxurious home in the cloud forest. If star gazeing from the comfort of your king sized, memory foam mattress is your idea of relaxing, you've found home. The open, airy feel of the Ohana house feels as if you're truly living in the jungle, yet w/ the luxurious amenities of any 5 star resort and the privacy & quiet of your own, secluded home in the clouds. Comfort, privacy & quiet are the 3 principal ingredients Sarah has so thoughtfully mixed into this wonderful setting. A/C?..fageddaboudit! NO NEED! Being 1800ft. above sea level makes all the difference in the world in a cloud forest. The cool, moist breeze that would gently drift through the jungle periodically was a blissful feeling unto itself after a hot day on one of the marvelous beaches Sarah directed us to. On site laundry, fridge/freezer, stove/micro, HDTVs, basketball hoop, grill & patio all just add to the convienience & comfort of this incredible rental & it's off-the-beaten-path location. If you are willing to forego the convienience of being directly on/close to the beach (& it's heat), I promise, you WILL NOT be dissappointed. Plesae feel free to contact me w/ any questions whatsoever about this one-of-a-kind rental paradise. Thanks again Sarah & Co. We WILL be back.

Just Great!

  • 5 of 5
We arrived to find our home away from home immaculate. It looked just like the photos online right down to the fresh-cut tropical flowers in the kitchen and dining rooms. Sarah obviously takes a great deal of pride in the condition of her guesthouse. Everything was well-maintained - (none of the often sort of funky smell that often goes along with the moist Hawaiian climate, quality sheets, tasteful decor, beautiful yard, well-appointed kitchen, etc.). The tropical jungle setting was quiet and private and a quick commute to the sunny coastline. At night the stars were brilliant! We took advantage of the forest reserve just up the road, and spent one day just enjoying a beautiful hike in the jungle. In the morning a brisk walk found us at Thunder Mountain Coffee - perfect way to start a day! And, although the setting was quite private, Sarah was just a quick text away. She had suggestions for activities and eating, and everything she suggested was spot on (you must hit the Lotus Café - doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's awesome and Roy's was simply superb! We have been to Hawaii several times. This is our third trip to the Big Island and this was by far the nicest home we have had the pleasure of renting on any of the islands. We would happily stay there again. Mahalo Sarah for your hospitality!

wonderful stay on Kona

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful relaxing time at the beautiful 'cabin' in the woods! Exactly as stated in description! Very private and away from all the hussle and bussle of town/resort living! Yet close enough for dinners and shopping! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who was going to the Big Island.

Our guesthouse is located on the side of Hualalai Mountain at 2800ft. The temperature averages 75 F and 23 C daily while dropping cooler in the evenings. This makes for a wonderful retreat after a long day down at the beach or sightseeing. Wild ginger blooms along the hillside along with many flowers. Kaloko hiking trail is less than .5 mile away on the same street! Mountain Thunder coffee is also at the end our road, you can go for a walk and get a tour and fresh cup of coffee.
