LYNWAY HOUSE

Lynton Chateau / Country House Rental Photos and Description

Luxury Country house with panoramic views over the sea

Overview:

Lynway House is situated on the spectacular North Devon coastline within an area of outstanding natural beauty. It offers a unique experience for individuals requiring self-catering in Devon.

The house is an elegant late Victorian country house, with great character and panoramic views over the sea and Exmoor. It was built as a summer retreat in 1890 for a wealthy London bankers family. The house is totally hidden in almost 3 acres of gardens and natural woodland yet just a whisper away from Lynton and Lynmouth. It is only a short stroll to all of the areas attractions such as Valley of the Rocks, the beautiful waterfalls of Watersmeet and the famous 'Cliff Railway' which takes you to the picturesque harbour of Lynmouth.

Nestling some 400 feet above where Exmoor meets the sea, overlooking Exmoor National Park, the house exudes wide open space and tranquillity. Enjoy the large garden with barbecue area and relax on the terrace or in the large conservatory, all taking in the panoramic sea views. There are pubs, restaurants and shops a few minutes walk away and also a beach in Lynmouth.

Interior and grounds:

The house is presented to a very high standard retaining many original features including a tiled entrance hall that leads to an impressive grand staircase which takes you to 10 well appointed bedrooms, some with sea views and balconies.

Off the entrance hall are two large comfortable lounges: one with an open fireplace, baby grand piano, colour TV and DVD; the second with an open fireplace, colour TV and CD player. French windows lead out onto a balcony overlooking the garden and beyond to Exmoor National Park and the North Devon Coastline.

The ground floor also hosts a dining room with a large table and ample seating with views out over the terrace. The dining room adjoins the spacious farmhouse style kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped with a three oven Aga, double oven, hob, microwave, two large fridge freezers and a diswasher. A separate laundry room is accessed from the outside with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Plenty of parking can be found in the large public car park just 300 metres from the house, via a graduated sloping path. Weekly passes can be obtained from the Tourist Board. There is access for cars so visitors can be dropped off at the property. There is also wireless internet access available. Dogs are welcome.

The house is within driving distance of many sandy beaches. These include Woolacombe, Puttsborough, Saunton and Croyde. There are a variety of local attractions to entertain the family, including wildlife parks, gift shops, surfing, quad biking, horse riding and many more. The championship 18 hole golf course at Saunton is approximatly 40 minutes drive from Lynton.

For stag and hen weekend ideas there are pubs and restaurants or for those wanting some exciting experiences then how about paintballing, surfing, horse trekking, quad biking, coasteering, kayaking, 4x4 off roading, spa treatments and clay pigeon shooting.

Exmoor is an area of outstanding natural beauty, perfect for walkers, artists, photographers and all those who enjoy peace and solitude.

Take a ride from Lynton to Lynmouth on the water powered venicular cliff railway whilst enjoying stunning views of the North Devon Coastline as you glide up and down the 862 foot length of track; from Lynton perched 500 feet above to Lynmouth nestling at the foot of the cliffs.

Lynmouth is a picturesque village with its own harbour. There are places to eat and drink, including fish and chip shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. There are places of interest such as an art gallery, brass rubbing centre and gift shops.

The countryside around Watersmeet near Lynton is one of those special areas of deeply wooded coombes, with sparkling waterways and peace and quiet even in the busiest times of the year. Close by is The National Trust tea and gift shop, once a fishing lodge. Fishing is still a popular pastime in the area.

The Valley of Rocks is a popular tourist spot situated half a mile west of Lynton. It is accessible by road and a scenic footpath ??The North Walk’ from Lynton. Formed in the Ice Age with spectacular rock formations. Herds of wild goats and Exmoor Ponies can often be seen.

There is an abundance of wildlife to be seen on Exmoor, and those with a keen eye may be lucky enough to spot one of the many herds of red deer that grace the moorland and surrounding areas. A little easier to find are the herds of Exmoor ponies that roam freely.

Lorna Doone valley was made famous by Richard Blackmore's novel, 'Lorna Doone'. which is set in and around Malmesmead and Oare. Also mentioned in the novel is Robbers Bridge. This is a beautiful spot for a picnic often captured in many different mediums by local and visiting artists.
