Honokowai Condo Rental Photos and Description
2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6-8 with Ocean Front Views
Watch the waves, turtles and whales from our ocean front living room, private lanai or even while in the kitchen. Unit 227 is the newest of the 2-bedroom units at the Mahina Surf, a low density (only 56 units) oceanfront tropical paradise. When we first started coming to the Mahina Surf in 1990 it truly was “Maui's Best Kept Secret!” Over the years more and more people have discovered the relaxing but still uncrowded atmosphere that has kept us coming back year after year.
Unit 227 was built to our specifications in 2007 including extra wide inside unit stairs to make getting your luggage upstairs easier, wired smoke detectors in each bedroom with battery backup, wall mirror in the front room to fully capture the ocean views, sleeping for 6 and for 8 on request, Moen kitchen and bathroom facets, two walk-in tiled showers, main floor fully tiled, stone kitchen and bathroom counter top, all brand new kitchen appliances, and Hawaiian decor. We have two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The main floor bedroom has a Queen sized bed and TV/DVD. The second floor loft bedroom has a King sized bed. We have a new Queen sized sofa sleeper in the living room. Both bedrooms and the living room all have attractive and quiet ceiling fans. Both bathrooms have ceiling fans as well.
We built our unit with an extra loft area that contains two Twin sized beds and dressers. This extra loft is normally locked but can be opened on request at no additional charge. We built it for our younger children and grandchildren. It is 10x10 feet but the ceiling starts at 6.5 feet and slopes to 2 feet so you can see it's more a children friendly space. It has its own lighting, electric outlets, wired smoke detector and window.
The kitchen is perhaps the best room in our unit with direct ocean front views of the waves and blue ocean. All the appliances have been replaced this year (September 2013). The dish washer is so quiet we thought it wasn't working when we first used it! The kitchen is fully furnished and has many helpful items we don't even have at home. The tropical patterned dishes came from Macy's as did the flatware and knife set. The beautiful Silestone quartz counter tops in the kitchen and the bathrooms offer protection from bacteria, scratches and stains.
We are just a short walk away from Kahana beach. The beautiful beaches of Kapalua (our favorite) or Kaanapali are just a few minutes drive to the north or south of the Mahina Surf. Great snorkeling directly at the Mahina Surf oceanfront or at Kapalua and just a little further north at Mokuleia Bay (Slaughterhouse Beach) near mile marker 32 and Honolua Bay near mile marker 33. Great boogie boarding when the waves are up at Slaughterhouse! Fun dining opportunities in Lahaina on Front Street. We like Kimo's and Cheeseburger in Paradise. The Hula Pie at Kimo's is worth going in for even without dinner. At Whaler's village we love Leilani's On the Beach. We eat outside. Sister restaurant to Kimo's, they also have Hula Pie. Hula Pie is made with a favorite macadamia nut ice cream piled high on a chocolate Oreo cookie crust and topped with chocolate fudge, whipped cream, and more macadamia nuts. China Boat is walking distance North of Mahina Surf for excellent Chinese food. The best fresh fish food dinning experience on our side of the island is at Pineapple Grill in the Kapalua Resort. Many beautiful golf courses await you just a few minutes away in Kapalua or Kaanapali. Maui is endless in its beauty and opportunities for adventure that await your next visit to The Valley Isle, voted “Best Island” by readers of Conde Nast Traveler for nineteen years!

It was beautiful staying here in your nice piece of paradise. The first thing I did when I got here is I jumped in the nice warm salt water pool. We saw lots of sea turtles and even some came up to the shore. We went snorkeling and saw lots of fish. We also went to the Westin and swam in their pool and that pool was way bigger. I did the hula really well. Thanks for having us!
My husband is retired and we now have a little more time to come out to Maui these last couple of years. He worked for Ernst & Young in public accounting for 30 years. I have enjoyed being a full-time mom for the last 34 years or so. We enjoy visiting our friends and family and we can often be found on NCL cruises when not here in Maui. We are both from Illinois, mostly. I grew up in Palatine. My husband's family is from Denver and his dad was is the Army early in his life so he lived a time in Washington D.C., Tacoma, WA, and Corpus Christi, TX, but Illinois has been his home since second grade. My sisters and I had a great time decorating our unit. One of my sisters, the real artist of our family, quilted a turtle wall hanging for our unit's living room. She loved watching the turtles from our lanai and walking right down to just a few feet away from them as they sun bathe every afternoon on the rocks.
My husband is most happy when he has 'a project' even though he will deny this and claims he hates projects. He loves making sure everything in the unit is clean, painted, and working. Just this year he had a new refrigerator, oven and dishwasher installed. I picked out a new Queen sofa sleeper. He replaced the kitchen facet, bathroom facet valves, cleaned the carpets and furniture and polished the stone counter top. He really should spend more time out at the pool!
We have been coming to the Mahina Surf since 1990. The Mahina Surf was recommended to us by my husband's parents and we were not disappointed. His mom fell in love with the beauty of the grounds at the Mahina Surf, the tropical plants and flowers all professionally cared for. We had always rented just 1-bedroom units which were great for the two of us or for us plus two children so we never thought about buying a unit for our family with seven children. Then one year when all the 1-bedrooms had been 100% rented we agreed to rent a 2-bedroom on the second floor. Wow, we thought! This could work for our family! It took some time but we eventually purchased unit 227 on the ocean front and remodeled the unit from scratch. We love the view and the constant sounds of the ocean. I especially love the sounds of the waves at night.
What we really appreciate at the Mahina Surf is how close we are to the ocean and the privacy of our property and oceanfront. Public access to the shoreline is only available several properties to the north of us at a public beach area. As a result, we don't have non-guests crossing our property to see the dozens of sea turtles that have adopted the Mahina Surf as their home.
I have seen more turtles here this year than ever! Our children love walking down to the ocean rocks in front of our unit to watch the turtles up close and take pictures of them.
We fell in love with unit 227 because of the ocean front view from the living room and lanai. Unit 227 is the newest of the 2-bedroom units and it was built to our specifications including extra wide in unit stairs to make getting your luggage upstairs easier, wired smoke detectors in each bedroom with battery backup, wall mirror in front room to fully capture the ocean views, sleeping for 6 and for 8 on request, Moen kitchen and bathroom facets, two walk-in tiled showers, main floor fully tiled, stone kitchen and bathroom counter tops, all brand new kitchen appliances, and Hawaiian decor including a hand-made quilted sea turtle wall hanging.
