Historic, log cabin that has been lovingly renovated to provide a romantic getaway. This gem has been featured on the local log cabin home tour and photographed by Traverse The Magazine. Perfect for two people but will sleep four. Unique opportunity for horse people to do self care horse boarding across the road at Kestrel Farms and enjoy the miles of well maintained, nature trails at Good Hart Farms.
Paul and Sara Matthews are the owners of this cabin which is adjacent to their 200 acre equestrian facility. We have owned this property for 20 years and enjoy it with our two young children, 3 dogs and numerous horses.
Paul Matthews purchased this cabin in 1993
We are both natives of Northern Michigan and love community of Goodhart.
We chose this property for its size, beauty and the fact that it is surrounded by state land and Conservency.
My sister and I, along with my dog Lili, stayed at the Hideaway Cabin just this past weekend. We loved the place! It was well equipped and the beds were wonderful! I find that if the beds are not comfortable, not much else matters...but the beds were so comfortable and warm!
The weather Gods were not so good to us while we were there. Rain, storms and wind were what we had 2 out of the 3 days, but the cabin has more than one way to warm it up and I especially appreciated the light/fan/heater combo in the bathroom!
Paul was very welcoming and helpful even though he was out-of-town. He provided a list of local restaurants, which we consulted when we were deciding on where to go. Fish is one that he recommended and it was fabulous! Not too far and the food and service was top-notch! When we were unable to figure out the shower, he asked Jay to come over and assist us. Remember to PULL on the shower knob! :)
Even with the iffy weather we were able to pull off a bonfire one evening. The firewood, which Paul so graciously provided, was very wet but with the addition of one of those starter logs from the IGA in Harbor Springs, we were able to build quite a nice fire! The sky actually cleared while we were out there and the Milky Way was amazing! We turned off the lights in the cabin to marvel at the sky. A sight not to be missed!
We picked up a pot pie from the General Store and that was supper on Saturday night. As it baked it filled the cabin with a wonderful aroma which just added to the coziness. The pies are very good, as are the fruit pies and cookies...and it is just a few miles down the road so don't miss out!
The cabin has a screened-in porch which we were not able to take advantage of due to the weather but I can imagine how nice it would be to sit out there on a warm summer evening.
We hope to make our sibling weekend a yearly tradition and look forward to coming back to the Hideaway Cabin next year!
If you're looking for a quiet relaxing place away from it all, this is the place for you. The cabin is just as nice as the pictures show. The surrounding property is very pretty and relaxing. There are nature trails right out the front door. The outdoor fire pit makes for a relaxing evening, and if it's chilly, the indoor gas stove makes the cabin warm and cozy. Harbor Springs is approx 20 mins away if you're interested in shopping and dining. Scenic drives are right out the driveway. The drive to Good Hart, Tunnel of the Trees up to Sturgeon Bay was gorgeous. The owner and his family are very welcoming and willing to help with whatever they can.
We had a wonderful weekend at the cabin! The Log cabin was charming and full of the beautiful handiwork of the owner. We could tell there was a lot of care and attention given to this place. The location was perfect for us because we were looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle to relax and rejuvenate. It was nice to right on The Good Hart Nature Preserve to take advantage of walking the trails. Paul was a great host and gave us great recommendations for dining in the area. The location was a beautiful drive from everywhere we wanted to go, just 15-20 minutes to restaurants, wineries, and the secluded beaches of Wilderness State Park..Be sure to look up at night and see the beautiful Milky Way! Hope to be back again next year!
We went for a quiet, relaxing, romantic vacation, hadn't been to the area in a few years. The cabin was quaint, clean and a great place to spend a week together! Loved the details inside the cabin, it is obvious the owners take pride in this property!
Having grown up in the area, I was looking for a somewhat central location to both Harbor Springs and Mackinac Island, and this location delivered. It really is secluded so be prepared to drive at least 15-30 minutes to get anywhere. The queen bed was comfortable and the room was a nice size. There's a couple twin beds in the loft that would be good for older kids as there's no railing to protect the smaller ones. We didn't bring our dogs but the owner said they were welcome, which is great.
A few recommendations of where to go:
Good Hart General store for basics and touristy stuff as well as some prepared foods
Legs Inn for a great meal or drinks in a unique atmosphere
Sturgeon Bay beach for an uncrowded day along the water
Gurneys Deli in Harbor Springs for the best sandwiches
Johans Bakery for the best pastries
We love this cabin! It was enchanting and beautiful in it's natural setting! Daniel Boone would've been proud!
Also, a great place for our dogs to love. So close to Lake Michigan and all the amazing beauty Northern Michigan has to offer! Can't wait to go back!
Beautiful rural setting surrounded by conservancy and state land. Hiking and horse back riding trails galore! Lots of wild life and bird watching opportunities. Several nice beaches within 2.5-15 miles. Mackinaw Island 40 minutes and a ferry ride away.
