About Temple Starr
This property was originally purchased a century ago by our Great-Grandfather, Adolph Vermont, who was a beloved professor at Converse College. At the time of the purchase, there were 2 houses and 2 lots. The cottages were used to house the workers who were building the dam.
This home and the surrounding property are still in our family. My brother and I (who are now the fourth generation to trustee the home for the next generation - we are merely the current custodians) grew up swimming and skiing on the lake and now our children adore their summer time on the lake. As the children are growing up, we are no longer able to spend the entire summer on the lake so have begun to share this special property with others.
Temple Starr purchased this cottage in 1916
Why Temple Starr chose Saluda
This special property was one of the original homes built on highly desirable Lake Summit. Homes here are passed down from generation to generation. It is a gentle, clean, refreshing mountain lake, built by Duke Power Company a century ago to power area textile mills. It is the home of Camps Mondamin, Green Cove and Greystone.
What makes this cottage unique
The home is a completely remodeled century-old house which provides the right mix between charming old and updated new.
