I am a hairdresser by trade. I like to snorkel, kayak, and walk on the shoreline looking for treasures. I am French Canadian, born in Montreal. I grew up in Ojai, California. I moved to Hawaii in 1978, and it has been my home ever since.
one of the most beautiful views in the subdivision. One of the largest rental in subdivision. You can hear the ocean while swimming in the pool. Walking distance to Champagne ponds where turtles come to rest. If you are a runner, wonderful running area. Safe and not a lot of traffic.
Lot's of space, not crowded. Large lanai, great whale watching in season. Cleanest air on the planet. You can google that, it's true.
Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Kapoho pool house. Located in a quiet neighborhood and walking distance to the Champagne ponds that my kids loved. They also appreciated all the pool toys that were available for use as well as the Boogie boards we took to the beaches. For snorkeling, the Kapoho tide pools are a short 10 minute drive from the house and are spectacular on a sunny day! The house is big and roomy and the sunrises from the Lanai were beautiful with breakfast. Nearby Pahoa has all the necessities as well as a few good restaurants. We can highly recommend Kaleo's, truly outstanding food. Volcano National park is a 1 hour drive and completely worth the visit (go in the afternoon and stay for the lava glow at sunset).
But what makes this property unique was the host. Louise was very accommodating for our last minute visit, fluctuating number of guests, as well as midnight arrival and late departure. She even did some grocery shopping for us so that we had food for breakfast that first morning! Very friendly, she provided our family with thoughtful parting gifts and our boys still talk about how nice Louise was! She really completes the experience, thank you Louise!
We checked in on a Friday and was greeted by Louise. She was very welcoming and friendly. I have family that lives in that area and they came over during the day. They had a great time as well. The beach is located within walking distance from the property although we used the pool majority of the time. On the last night that we stayed the electric went out due to a down power line and Louise provided us with lanterns and flash lights. This is a great property and we an amazing time at the Kapoho pool house.
We stayed here for almost a week and enjoyed every minute. It was spacious enought to fit our family of four, my mother-in-law and my parents. The kids loved having the private pool to play in before or after we headed out on adventures for the day. The view of the ocean over the lava field was beautiful. We really enjoyed our day trip to Volcano National Park. It is a great area for seeing the contrasts in the island, the lava fields and the lush tropical forests. We really enjoyed being able to walk to Champagne ponds - the unique warm water was wonderful. Louise, the owner, who lives next door was very conscious of giving us our own space, but also vey helpful when we needed it. She made Leis with our daughters and did their hair in island style (braids with beads.). It was a lovely combination of space with helpfulness. We would highly recommend this house for two families or an extended family like ours. It is a great location to make trips on the wet side of the island, but also offers fun adventures nearby or simply pleasant times hanging out in the pool and barbecuing for dinner.
I hope it is ok okay to share my experience as a day guest to this property. My niece rented this property and we had an awesome time there. The pool, views, the home and property was awesome. We brought along my daughter who is wheel chair bound. To our surprise there was a small ramp to enter the bottom part of the house. The owner lives on the property and she never made us feel uncomfortable. The electric was out for most of the day due to a down power line and she came over to bring a lantern and some flash lights. She was very nice. Mahalo for allowing us to enjoy your house, pool and every thing else.
Stayed March 14-20, 2014 with 5 adults and 3 teens comfortably (house could accommodate more). Rental process was simple, and Louise was always quick to answer questions and make suggestions. If you are not familiar with the area, Kapoho is located 20 minutes from town (Pahoa being the closest), and it's best to plan accordingly for groceries, supplies, etc. The gated community is very quiet and full of friendly people. The views from the house are outstanding - lots of beautiful sunrises, sunsets and whale watching. The walk to great snorkeling is only a few minutes from the house, and having the pool was terrific for evening dips and just relaxing. We were told some folks complained about the fact Louise lives in the house adjacent to the rental on the same property, but we never had an issue with that. Louise was most accommodating and gave us all the privacy we wanted, yet was readily available for anything we may have needed. The two master bedrooms with king beds and en-suites (one up and one down) were a good size, as were the other bedrooms and full bathrooms. (But then again, you're in Hawaii to enjoy the outdoor living!) The kitchens were equipped with everything we needed, and we really enjoyed cooking upstairs and then taking our meals out to the deck to eat in the breeze and take in the views. Being up a wee bit on a hill, the house was cool and comfortable sleeping at night. This location is a wonderful base for exploring the Hilo side of the island. We definitely suggest visiting Champagne Pond, Kaimu Beach, Kilauea, Mauna Kea Observatory for stargazing, Punalu'u Black Sand Beach for turtles (go a few miles further to Punalu'u Bake Shop - YUM!), Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls. We have stayed in many rentals while visiting on the Big Island and Oahu, and we highly recommend this house and will be back in 2016. Mahalo, Louise, for providing your home for us to enjoy and your wonderful hospitality!
I rented Louises property last year for my two sisters from Oregon, both in their 70's. We all had a great time. There were Whales swpouting offshore, and one night, a cruise ship, like a hotel slowly sailing by, amazing. The property is elevated above the ocean giving beautiful ocean views, and since the propery sits on a half acre lot it is actually much more private than other rentals in the area where neighbors are only ten or twenty feet away. The saltwater pool was invigorating (no Chlorine). The views of the Pacific are great, especially from the large upstairs lanai. Louise was a wonderful Host. The week we spent there will always be with all of us. John, from Oregon ( and Hawaii).
Secure gated community with ocean access. Walking distance to thermal heated pond, 'Champagne Pond' where you can often see turtles. Biking, swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and kayaking can be done here.
