CREATIVE RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I enjoyed a 2 month stay in the lovely 'Jepun Telu', the charming name of the house. Because it is located away from the roads, surrounded by rice fields and other small homes, it tends to be tranquil and allowed us the space to write and paint. The house is simply furnished but has all the basics covered- comfortable bedding, workable kitchens, 2 decent bathrooms and Madé, the wonderful care taker who made us feel like family.
The availability of local restaurants and a good supermarket (Bintang) within walking distance is a plus. In the evening, after a rain, the wild sounds of frogs and calling birds filled the air and added to the charm. Sitting on the upper deck reading, the sound of a gamelan orchestra practicing in the distance at the local temple in Penestanan and the perfume of incense rising from the flower offerings- all was right with the world! We had a wonderful 2 months here.

Owner's Response: Delighted that you really got into the 'spirit' of the house and the surrounding area, and also that the tranquillity enabled your creative work. We hope you can return some time in the future, when 'Jepun Telu' and Made will be ready to welcome you again.

BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL

  • 5 of 5
I had the pleasure of staying on the upper floor of Jepun Telu in February of 2011. I loved sitting on the porch in the morning with a cup of coffee and upload photos on the notebook I brought as an internet connection was available. In the evening I loved watching the sunset as the various sounds of birds, insects and gamelan played in the background. Made, who came every day to clean, was able to arrange any travel arrangements I needed. I enjoyed walking to the various restaurants, the yoga studio, the pool and shopping center that were all nearby.
I am looking forward to going back this coming April with two good friends. We will be renting both floors this time.

Car: not necessary

This area is a tranquil haven, with the nearest car access road 5-10 minutes walk away, but being a short and scenic walk to down-town Ubud (about 15 minutes). It is located in traditional working rice-fields, but centrally located for many of the attractions of this area, which include many fine restaurants, spas and very interesting shops selling all kinds of beautiful clothes, carvings and artefacts made in Bali.

Penestanan is known as a place to which artists and craftsmen of all kinds have migrated, and there are a number of museums and art collections nearby. Additionally, there are numerous dance performances which take place, and the visitor to Penestanan will likely witness one or more of the village ceremonies which Balinese culture is famous for. This area is also central, with easy access to tourist attractions further afield. A scenic drive of 45-60 minutes will take you to the beach, while further inland visit the springs at Tirta Ganga or the volcano Mount Agung.

Other Activities: Seeing dance, art, carvings, temples
