I am a Wyndham Presidential Reserve Owner
I was extremely pleased with the one bedroom unit. The hotel is quite nice and the staff was outstanding!! Booking and check-in was easy. Pull-out sofabed was very comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel and plan to return next year.
I must admit that I was a bit apprehensive on booking a unit not yet reviewed at the time of booking, with only a representative floor plan (which changed after I had booked to reflect that there would be no balcony). I was, however, very satisfied with my stay. I called the morning of check-in to request an upper floor and was happy to learn on check-in that, despite my suite not being ready at 4 pm, I would have one on the 10th floor. The layout was as depicted. Great, modern, and spacious furnishings. Lots of space. No noise issues. We did not make use of the sofa bed, so I can't speak to its comfort. Easy access to all San Fran has to offer.
We originally had an agreement with this man for Wednesday through Sunday nights. In April he informed us that the Sunday night was unavailable due to management at the Wyndham. He would only reduce the price minimally for losing one fifth of our stay. We appealed to him, but he was immovable. We were visiting San Francisco for the Avon Walk for Breast cancer and this was an ideal location.
The ad on VRBO has much misinformation. There are not two king beds, there is a king in the Master bedroom and a double bed in the guest room. There is no sofa bed in the guest bedroom as stated. The jetted tub in the master bedroom was nonexistent. In fact, there was no tub at all. There was no balcony. The unit was on the first floor, not the tenth.
That said, the unit was lovely, and did work for our home in San Francisco. Our daughters shared the master suite and we took the guest room with the double bed. The people at the Canterbury are lovely and work hard to please their residents. The first floor location was not ideal as we were awakened at night several times by street noise, dumpster diving and loud conversations.
If you plan to visit Alcatraz while you are inSan Francisco make sure to get tickets in advance. When we were there the tickets were sold out until August 10th! For amazing Mexican try Mamacita!
We spent 3 nights in a "Presidential Suite" of the Wyndham Canterbury, advertised as "Wyndham San Francisco, Union Square".
The good: This property is an older hotel that has been beautifully renovated. Our unit was larger than expected (3 bedroom vs. 2), beautifully furnished with a new, modern kitchen area, wonderful bathrooms and showers, comfortable beds, convenient laundry and tasteful, contemporary decor. It was conveniently located and the staff of the property were very helpful. An exceptionally comfortable place to stay in the heart of San Francisco for much lower rate than a 2 mediocre hotel rooms, which would have been our alternative rental option.
The somewhat questionable aspects: Although it's touted as a penthouse suite, it is actually part of a block of timeshare rooms, all located on the lower floors of the hotel. There is no view as one might expect by the words presidential and penthouse. Although the staff was very responsive and helpful, they "invited" us several times to attend a presentation-- obviously a sales presentation for timeshares. They were persistent with their invitation to the point that we started avoiding eye contact every time we passed through the lobby. As for location-- it is a close 4-5 blocks to Union Square, but not in Union Square. The neighborhood however was safe and walking around the area felt very comfortable.
I think the largest concern with this "owner" is that they do not have full control over the unit you will be renting. It is part of a class of accommodations which it appears are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. We feel fortunate to have had an exceptional unit on the 3rd or 4th floor.
Overall: a good experience and great value for the $$ We would rent again.
Awesome hotel, great staff, our stay was great. We were there for a bachelorette and it was the perfect place to stay. We had the 2 bdrm presidential suite and it was awesome.
