About Richard and Audrey Koerber

We have lived in Asheville for over 30 years.

As licensed natural health care professionals, we are happy to help visitors connect with any services desired from the very broad selection of Asheville natural health professionals.

Both Richard and Audrey come from large families and appreciate the preciousness of spending family time together, especially with grandchildren. We're always ready to add a few new visiting “family members.”

Our interests include swimming, hiking, biking, traveling, and we love meeting new people. When traveling we enjoy experiencing local cultural experiences and the people native to that area. Travels that we yet long for are many, including bicycling in Bhutan, revisiting South America and always more time in Southern France or Nova Scotia, Canada (Richard's home previous to Asheville.)

Richard and Audrey Koerber purchased this apartment in 1997

Why Richard and Audrey Koerber chose Asheville

We've seen Asheville grow from a desolate downtown into the thriving, vibrant community that it is today. We love sharing “our town” with visitors. We are familiar with many special places of nature to visit via foot, bicycle, boat or motor vehicle. We also are happy to share our favorite restaurants, microbreweries and music venues.

Brief history on the house:

The land was purchased on August 29,1897 for $300. The house is believed to be built a year later in 1898. George and Isabelle Cooke built the house. He was born and educated in England. He entered the lumber business in Canada and met and married his wife there. He had lumber mills in Canada and Florida and it was this business that brought him to Asheville, where he established a lumber mill at the present site of the Biltmore Estate, the property afterwards was bought by George W. Vanderbilt. He was a resident of Asheville for nearly half a century and he was connected with Hans Rees Tannery, buying timber and bark, and his reputation for honest dealing made him known and revered throughout Western North Carolina.

We have owned this house since 1997.

What makes this apartment unique

We have created an atmosphere in our apartment that reflects the type of warmth, hospitality and relaxation that we have often been blessed to enjoy while traveling abroad. We hope that you will enjoy your stay here !

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks for the hospitality! This apartment is fantastic and so convenient to downtown. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay while seeing The Avett Brothers. We will certainly be back!

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5
We just spent an enjoyable week in Asheville and this property helped to make for a wonderful time. The pictures give an accurate idea about the design and furnishings of this apartment, but don't necessarily convey how spacious the unit was. Guests have the a private 2nd floor apartment in a well kept house, with the view of a sizable yard below. The property is on a quiet street in a nice neighborhood, convenient to local shops and restaurants. Very close to downtown (walkable) as well as to Trader Joes, Whole Foods/GreenLife and Harris Teeter for groceries. Highway (240) access is just a few blocks away, but the neighborhood is quietly residential, despite its convenient location. With highway connections, West Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway are 5 minutes away; you're down to Biltmore in 10 minutes, even driving city streets.

This property was immaculate and Richard & Audrey leave it very well stocked from kitchen supplies to extra towels, comforters, tissues and cleaning products, along with organic soaps, shampoos, lotions. There are even tooth brushes and band-aids, should you need them ! As has already been mentioned, you are greeted with a bottle of wine and chocolate to start things off. ...A nice welcome.

We found the bed both roomy and comfortable; there lots of nice older pieces of furniture are mixed in with other contemporary furnishings and artwork. We had easy internet access and TV orientation was quick and smooth with detailed directions. There is a table for outside use, which we would have used if it were just a bit warmer during the early or later hours when we were back in the apartment. With City Bakery and Dough nearby, we often chose linger outside at those places with their delicious food as the day got warmer.

Asheville is such a great city. It's pedestrian friendly, historic, artistic, has great restaurants and brews and is busy and thriving, even on week-nights. There's so much to do, whether you like hiking, visiting artist's studios, fine (and not necessarily expensive) dining, walking the neighborhoods or having a drink or a meal at the Grove Park Inn (very close by), with it's incredible view.

Richard and Audre's place will provide a convenient base for all your activities and it is such a nice place to come home to. Do enjoy !

Fantastic!!

  • 5 of 5
This place is absolutely perfect. Very well stocked kitchen and bathroom. There is so much room and the view is beautiful! The property feels more like a retreat than someones home. The location is perfect too, we walked to the City Bakery Cafe for breakfast (which was the best breakfast we had our whole trip!) and downtown is about a 15 min walk. Audrey and Richard are very accommodating while giving you your privacy. I can't wait to visit again!

Cute and Cozy

  • 5 of 5
We had an amazing stay at the apartment. It was quite, very cute, and offered everything we needed! For less than the price of a hotel, you get a full kitchen, den, and porch overlooking a tranquil yard with a creek. We will be back!

Luxurious and convenient

  • 5 of 5
The apartment was lovely, well stocked, and had all the amenities. It was easy to find, and the instructions for getting in and out of the apartment were clear. The location was perfect--walking distance to downtown, Starbucks, good grocery stores, and local restaurants, bakeries, and bars. Also, easy drive to tourist spots--Grove Park Inn and Biltmore.
