About Richard and Audrey Koerber

We have lived in Asheville for over 30 years.

As licensed natural health care professionals, we are happy to help visitors connect with any services desired from the very broad selection of Asheville natural health professionals.

Both Richard and Audrey come from large families and appreciate the preciousness of spending family time together, especially with grandchildren. We're always ready to add a few new visiting “family members.”

Our interests include swimming, hiking, biking, traveling, and we love meeting new people. When traveling we enjoy experiencing local cultural experiences and the people native to that area. Travels that we yet long for are many, including bicycling in Bhutan, revisiting South America and always more time in Southern France or Nova Scotia, Canada (Richard's home previous to Asheville.)

Richard and Audrey Koerber purchased this apartment in 1997

Why Richard and Audrey Koerber chose Asheville

We've seen Asheville grow from a desolate downtown into the thriving, vibrant community that it is today. We love sharing “our town” with visitors. We are familiar with many special places of nature to visit via foot, bicycle, boat or motor vehicle. We also are happy to share our favorite restaurants, microbreweries and music venues.

Brief history on the house:

The land was purchased on August 29,1897 for $300. The house is believed to be built a year later in 1898. George and Isabelle Cooke built the house. He was born and educated in England. He entered the lumber business in Canada and met and married his wife there. He had lumber mills in Canada and Florida and it was this business that brought him to Asheville, where he established a lumber mill at the present site of the Biltmore Estate, the property afterwards was bought by George W. Vanderbilt. He was a resident of Asheville for nearly half a century and he was connected with Hans Rees Tannery, buying timber and bark, and his reputation for honest dealing made him known and revered throughout Western North Carolina.

We have owned this house since 1997.

What makes this apartment unique

We have created an atmosphere in our apartment that reflects the type of warmth, hospitality and relaxation that we have often been blessed to enjoy while traveling abroad. We hope that you will enjoy your stay here !

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks for the hospitality! This apartment is fantastic and so convenient to downtown. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay while seeing The Avett Brothers. We will certainly be back!

Perfect location for Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Husband and I went for a long anniversary weekend and spent two nights at the cozy, clean, apartment. The owners really pay attention to details and the complimentary wine and chocolate was very thoughtful. We would definately stay again on our next trip to Asheville. An easy mile walk to the center of downtown. Enjoyed the peaceful setting on the deck with my love.

Great place to stay in Asheville

  • 4 of 5

This is a really comfortable, pleasant apartment in a nice neighborhood close to downtown. Everything about the reservation, communication, and arrival was very easy to navigate and went smoothly. We felt like we were staying in a nice hotel suite -- everything we could have needed was provided, from clear directions and info about local attractions, to a super comfortable bed and wonderful organic lavender bath products... We really enjoyed our stay!

Owner's Response: Good afternoon and thank you for your review. And thanks for the beautiful rendition of Pete Seeger's banjo ! As you might understand, visitor interest in our VRBO rental is directly dependent on our reviews. We are interested in what was missing from your experience that would have deemed your experience a 5 star, as that is all we have otherwise been rated throughout our VRBO existence. If there are constructive additions or changes we can adopt, we would be interested. Our reviews are vitally important to us ! Thank you very much. Come back and visit again !

Perfect for a romantic getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cozy apartment was the perfect place for my husband and me to de-stress this winter. The kitchen is fully equipped with almost anything you need to cook, including a french press coffee maker :) We also appreciated the fact that they were so thoughtful as to use natural household cleaning products and organic soaps. Everything we needed was within walking distance, including Trader Joe's, a delicious bakery/coffee shop, and downtown Asheville. And if we didn't feel like walking, the back porch was the perfect place to relax, enjoy some crisp mountain air, and watch the birds. Richard and Audrey are kind, thoughtful, welcoming, and a great pleasure to work with, and we hope to see them again very soon! After this relaxing stay, we are re-charged and ready to take on life's adventure. Thanks again!

Cozy, convenient, charming!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent two nights in this lovely apartment. We were in Asheville to celebrate Valentine's Day and also see our daughter and team play basketball nearby. We adore AVL and have been there often. We were delighted to discover this apartment, which comprises part of the upstairs of a lovely older home just a few blocks from great spots like City Bakery, Gan Shan Station, and King James Tavern. Downtown is walkable, or a 5 minute drive. The neighborhood was quiet and homey. Inside, you feel like you're in a tree house, with the two-story entry and small deck. Inside, there is great attention to detail throughout with colorful artwork, textured walls, fine linens and organic products. The kitchen is so cute; we didn't make much use of it with all the great spots to eat around town. In the bathroom, we both enjoyed the higher, granite countertop and luxurious towels. We have stayed at a number of rentals over the years, both in Asheville and many other locations in the US and abroad. This definitely ranks among our favorites. Highly recommend - communication was also terrific - and this property offers great value for area!

We had a nice stay and found your apartment to be very nice and quaint. In warmer weather it might have been walkable to the downtown area which would have been nice. The owners are pleasant and helpful.
