Achiltibiue House Rental Photos and Description
Two luxury eco houses designed by an award-winning architect
The Brochs of Coigach have been awarded 5 stars by the Scottish Tourist Board and also the top gold level by the Green Tourism Business Scheme which is regarded as the World’s most credible sustainable tourism programme. The Brochs are works of art as much as the most luxurious holiday houses you can think of. Scàl's Broch is the perfect hide-away for two, though quite big in itself. The dining and sitting area is 8 metres long and 6 metres wide. The kitchen is slightly offset from this room. The bedroom measures 4 by 5 metres and the bathroom 3 by 6 metres.
Gille Buidhe's Broch accommodates within 143 square metres a huge open plan drawing room and dining area, a large kitchen, a further sitting room, 2 bedrooms, a large bathroom with bath, sauna and shower, and a second toilet. The largest room is 11 metres long and measures 10 metres across. Each window frames stunning views of the coastline. Original works by artists such as Edvard Munch and Tracey Emin adorn the walls.
The Brochs of Coigach have been shortlisted by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) for the 2011 Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award which is one of the most significant architecture awards in the world. We are silver members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and we are Scottish finalist of the Civic Trust Awards 2013, an international recognition given to projects of the highest quality design but only if they are judged to have made a positive cultural, social or economic contribution to the local community.
Red Magazine featured The Brochs of Coigach as Best in Britain for a Wilderness Getaway. Scottish Field described The Brochs as 'a modernist wonder echoing the Iron Age'. The leading German travel magazine MERIAN lists The Brochs as one of the 100 Best Dream Destinations for Two in the world.
AN IDEAL PLACE FOR AN AUTUMN OR WINTER BREAK: The Brochs of Coigach are especially suited for an autumn or winter break. Quite often, the winter light and the low northern sun shows the Scottish landscape at its best. The optical phenomena of nature are stunning. The panoramic windows of The Brochs of Coigach give you the feeling of being outdoors, though you are sitting in the utmost comfort of the observation and living room.
In autumn and wintertime, you can rent one or the other Brochs of Coigach on a daily basis like a hotel. This gives you a flexibility that you don't have with conventional holiday lets. The Brochs lend themselves for an extraordinary luxurious short break, for instance to celebrate a birthday, a wedding anniversary or another special occasion.
Kitchen and bathroom: The kitchens are built by Duncans of Grantown-on-Spey to a very high specification, with Siemens touch control hob and oven, 'whispering' AAA dishwasher, fridge freezer and Nova De-luxe Drawer Systems in Morello red cabinets.
The extremely spacious bathrooms are truly rooms in their own right, carefully designed so that their use is a pleasure in itself.
All linen and towels are provided. There are soap dispensers in the bathrooms.
You can buy from us eggs from our freely foraging rare breed hens and lamb from ancient breeds that we raise on our own fields - meat with a natural flavour that you wouldn't get anywhere else.

Why Sheileagh or Reiner Luyken chose Achiltibiue
We built The Brochs between 2008 and 2011 after two years of planning. We've owned the land since thirty years, it was a beautiful site but it was extremely boggy and overgrown with brambles and bracken. Only in 2006 did we have an idea what to do with it. We built two houses that are really our personal dream houses. Nowhere else would you find houses right above the sea that are built like iron-age roundhouses. Externally, they are enveloped in drystone walls with a turf roof falling from the hillside over craggy outcrops to the ground below. Internally, The Brochs are not just modern and homely but also little museums featuring masterpieces of Scottish and Northern European artists. You will be surrounded on the outside by Scotland's greatest landscape and inside by some of Scotland's greatest art.
What makes this house unique
Just the other day a couple staying in one of the houses observed a sea eagle for two and a half hours hunting just a hundred yards away. Other guests watched a big pod of dolphins play in the sea while they had breakfast. Where else in the world can you get that?
Guestbook comments from the owner
Excellent place to stay, and what a stupendous view! So many mountains! The Enard Bay walk (No 5 in the Achiltibuie booklet) is excellent though a bit rough in places.
Also enjoyed a lovely walk up to the Falls of Kirkaig - splendid open hillsides with excellent views of the main peaks - go past the path down to the falls for a great view of Suilven from close up.
It's a steep climb up to Stac Pollaidh but the path is very good and it's worth the effort.
we enjoyed the wonderful scallops and prawns too!!
