LUXURY LOG HOME ON BEAUTIFUL BIG PLATTE LAKE

Honor House Rental Photos and Description

5 Bedrooms, 3.5 Bath (Sleeps 14)

Stunning large 4200 square foot executive lakefront log home sits on over 1 acre of heavily wooded land. Located 1/2 mile off scenic Rt. 22, down a winding lane, which opens to a private retreat with panoramic 180 degree views of all sport Big Platte Lake. The property is directly adjacent to the southern aspect of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, voted 'Most Beautiful Place in America' in 2011 by Good Morning America.

Upon entering the foyer, one will be immediately struck by the view into and 'through' the great room as soaring 30 foot floor to ceiling windows bring the outdoors in, and provide unparalleled views of the lake.

Ideally suited for large families or get-togethers, the property boasts 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. There are 2 master suites on the first floor with King beds and down comforters, with one having a steam sauna, shower, whirlpool tub, while the other has its own full bathroom. The first floor great room has ample comfortable seating with 60' flat screen TV and Bose sound system. Dining area seats 8.

The upstairs includes 3 large bedrooms. One of the upstairs bedrooms has a king bed, while the other 2 bedrooms each have 2 twin beds. The upstairs loft area has a Queen sleeper sofa. In addition, there is an upstairs 'bonus room' with futon and large flat screen TV. Poker/gaming table with a breathtaking view of the lake completes the upstairs.

The property sits on over 100 feet of direct lake frontage, with a hammock gently swaying between cedar trees. There is a very large wraparound deck with grill and numerous lounge chairs, for casually taking in the stunning Northern Michigan scenery. Bald Eagles, Wild Turkeys, Deer, Flying Squirrels, and Great Blue Herons are frequent visitors. Platte lake is incredibly clear and generally calm, perfect for swimming, boating, and fishing. The property is also located approximately 150 yards from the Platte River, where one can enjoy a real 'lazy river' ride. The Sleeping Bear Dunes 'Dune Climb' is a 10 minute drive to the north, while Crystal Mountain Resort is 15 minutes to the south. Numerous outstanding restaurants are also nearby. There are too many other attractions to list here, but we will gladly provide further information upon inquiry. Just ask.

Winter Fun

We rented this wonderful home to host a Christmas season family getaway. We arrived on December 26th in the middle of a winter wonderland - about 18 inches of snow greeted us. To our delight, the roads, including the long private road leading to the home, were plowed. The porch and driveway were shoveled and salted. Over the next four days, we enjoyed sledding, tubing (Timberlee Resort), and planned to rent snowmobiles. We build snowmen, played football, and generally loved the winter season.

The area was stunningly beautiful, with clumps of snow clinging majestically to the large evergreens. The sky was clear each night, and the quiet was welcoming and serene. We could not have planned a better trip.

The house itself hosted my entire family with ease. It was warm, comfortable, and perfect for our needs. I highly recommend you not overlook this excellent property in the winter months!

The Best Location to Enjoy and Up North Vacation

My family had an excellent vacation on Big Platte Lake. First, this home is in the perfect location on the north west side of Platte Lake (as far and I know it is the only home for rent on this side.) From this location you can walk to Riverside to buy ice cream or rent canoes, follow an old railway grade to the campground and the lake, and you can also wade through the lake and float in your tubes down the Platte River. The home is very large and comfortable for a big family. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are large so you don't feel packed into the house. We have lots of little kids and they can play in the yard, the beach area, and wade out into the lake because it is shallow until the end of the dock. I can sit on the deck and watch the kids playing and have a moment of calm for myself. The kitchen is large and there is plenty of room to cook a meal. When you are standing in front of the stove you look out across the lake. Makes me want to cook! There are a few things that I look for in a rental house that make a stay with small kiddos more enjoyable. There is a washer and dryer... that is a must with kids. There is air conditioning. It doesn't often get very hot, but if it does, the AC helps you stay comfortable. There is enough room for everyone to sit at the table together. The house is clean and safe for kids to play in. The girls love to sleep in the pink bedroom upstairs. The street is quiet and secluded from the main drag where cars speed past.

My personal favorite thing to do is to look out at the lake at night and see the lights from the other houses sparkle on the water. Because of the location you see the length of the entire lake. One by one the lights go out and the stars take over the view. It is peaceful and calm. That is exactly what vacation should be.

We have stayed in this home several times with friends and family. It is absolutely a perfect location and comfortable home. Been there summer and winter. Close to the wine trail. We went tubing, fishing, skiing. Layout of house provides privacy for each couple yet common eating areas. Must go into Interlochen and eat at Hof Brau house for fish night or Sunday brunch.
