The Indigo House sits in the beautiful historic University
neighborhood of Missoula minutes away from downtown and in the middle of everything Missoula has to offer. The house is walking distance to the University, Farmer’s Market (May-September), Caras Park, restaurants and coffee houses. For families, the house is directly across the street from Bonner Park, a local attraction that offers water fun in the summer and small concerts by local bands.
Being so close to downtown gives you many options to stay busy in the summer months. Caras Park offers Wednesday’s Out-to-Lunch and Thursday’s Out-to-Dinner. Both venues give a glimpse into what Missoula has to offer, including food from local vendors and beer from local breweries. Downtown also offers many festivals, restaurants, bars, film festivals and many stores for shopping for local products. Additionally there are many yoga and Pilates studios and numerous coffee houses, spas and fly fishing shops within walking distance of the house. During the Fall, Grizzly football, basketball, Lady Griz fans and families of students will enjoy the close proximity to the University of Montana. Snowbowl Ski area is a mere 20 minute drive from the house for your winter ski needs.
Looking to make your stay as much like home away from home, the main floor offers a beautifully remodeled kitchen, dining room, sitting room and full bathroom with a shower/jacuzzi tub and two bedrooms that can sleep 2-4 adults. Need more space? Speak with management to include the basement unit (for an additional fee) to add room for another 2-4 adults.
The home sits within an artistically crafted garden that offers many ways to relax on your vacation. The garden is adorned with beautiful exotic furniture and artwork from around the world that surround the nicely placed pond. Enjoy your meals looking out over the tranquil pond at one of the many sitting arrangements on the back deck.
I came to town for a wedding and to see my daughter and her family. This home is close to everything. And lucky for me it was close to my daughters house. It was a nice walk to downtown to get some food or catch a movie at the Wilma (when they didn't have music playing). I will definetly stay here on my next trip to Missoula.
This house was awesome. All of the woodwork was incredible, the backyard was perfectly peaceful and the house had everything we needed. We took advantage of the park across the street several times and the house is in a very good location. It would've been nice if the bed downstairs had at least been a queen, but, other than that, all I have is praise. I wish we'd had it another night!
My husband and I stayed at the Indigo House with another couple for a week and can't wait to go back. Ariella was amazing - she even brought over new propane for the grill on a holiday weekend! Here are a few details:
NEIGHBORHOOD: The best location in Missoula (I grew up there). Caras Park, downtown, the university, and Missoula's best restaurants are all within walking distance. The park across the street is huge, with tennis courts (the house has rackets & balls), basketball court and a water play area for kids.
THE HOUSE: The house was extremely clean with heat AND air conditioning (rare in Missoula, but crucial during the hot summers). The house actually has three levels - a separate upstairs apartment and the main and basement levels. A really lovely guy lives in the upstairs apartment - he has a separate entrance and doesn't use the yard, so we only saw/heard him when he came down to fix the Wifi. And as people mentioned, the decor is exotic... we liked it, but it might not work for some small children (lots of carved masks and small, breakable things).
BEDROOMS: We used the two main-level bedrooms, both of which had very comfortable beds (soft, but not too soft), down duvets and soft sheets. We didn't use the downstairs bedroom, but it looked nice, too.
DECK/YARD: Gorgeous and very relaxing, with a fountain, pond, outdoor speakers that hook to your MP3 player, a shaded table/chairs, propane grill and lots of seating. We were out there constantly.
KITCHEN: Huge and filled with lots of coffee/tea options, dishwasher, everything you need to cook, napkins, paper towels, dishwashing soap, etc.
BATHROOMS: The jacuzzi someone mentioned is a jacuzzi tub in the main bathroom - not an outdoor jacuzzi. The tub is huge, modern and clean, and the bathroom is pretty much fully stocked with nice toiletpaper, a hairdryer, Kleenex, etc. Downstairs bath is a small, but handy 3/4 bath with a standing shower, toilet and sink.
LAUNDRY: Stacked washer & dryer downstairs, with laundry detergent under a sink & microwave. Works great.
It's really a gem of a house - we kept wishing we could find a way to buy it. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a great place to stay in Missoula. (I just hope it's free the next time we visit.)
This is a great house in a great location in Missoula. The location is great, being close to downtown and a stellar burrito restaurant called "El Diablo". They have the best burritos in town! Being across the street from a park is handy as well.
The highlights of the house are the back deck and kitchen. Both extremely nice and fun to spend time in. The living room is great, but it would have been helpful to have some instructions for the TV, since it was a SMART TV. Also, one of the upstairs beds is extremely uncomfortable, which made it difficult to sleep. Be aware if you plan on sleeping downstairs that this is where the heater and air conditioner are located and can be somewhat noisy when sleeping. Beyond these drawbacks, the house is very nice and a great place to enjoy Missoula.
We enjoyed the four days/three nights in this house. We had seven people total and all were adults. Quiet neighborhood, within walking distance to campus, and a nice park across the street. Very interesting decor and lovely yard! We would definitely stay here again.
We stayed in Indigo House as a transitional place for our father after his release from a stay in the hospital. It was a wonderful space to spend a week. The art and pieces from all over the world gave us much to enjoy. The deck and back yard were also a wonderful place for him to sit and get some time outdoors. The thoughtful touches and amenities were wonderful and the manager was extremely understanding and helpful. It really does feel like you are staying at a friend's house. We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable place for our stay.
