Converted farmhouse with 6 beds, 1 acre of private ground and stunning 12m pool

Described by one of our very happy guests as 'Portugal's best kept secret', this rustic farmhouse is a secluded get-away set in beautiful countryside. Nature lovers, birdwatchers & walkers may be drawn to the area in cooler months. In the summer, the private pool & easy access to un-spoilt beaches provide the perfect ways to relax.

The house has beam ceilings, red tiled floor, white walls & has been renovated using local materials such as slate & marble. It sleeps 6 people. 2 double bedrooms,1 bedroom with bunk beds. The thick stone walls keep the cottage cool throughout the summer months & there are oil filled heaters & an open log fire and a stove for the cooler seasons. Free Wifi connection available.

The large (12mx5m) saltwater pool has decking at one end with large canopy & a seating area complete with small fridge, cold water shower, power points & bean bags. The pool can be lit at night. There is 1 acre of private ground with a beautiful terraced garden & fruit trees & 2 large south facing terraces

The grounds: The two large south facing terraces have beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. One of the terraces has a shaded area and can be used as an outdoor dining space. There is also a BBQ. behind the fruit trees is a large trampoline (with sides) available for guests.

Talegre is everything the description promised: secluded setting, well maintained, relaxing pool and shady rest area by the pool. Ideal to leave the stressy world behind and come to terms with the slow pace the sleepy village deserves. Within reasonable driving distance, there are seaside restaurants, shops and beaches. The rolling Alentejo landscape is all around. The house and the pool area are surrounded by flowers and bushes, lovely to have breakfast beside the house, or sip a glass of wine by the pool. It was obvious to us that this is a property that is loved and cherished by its owners, not just a place to exploit. We liked it so much we would like to return - or dream of spending the rest of our life here.

Secluded peaceful gem near Alentejo coast

Talegre is a gem of a vacation villa, tucked away behind a small hill outside Sao Luis. Peaceful, beautifully landscaped and private. We particularly loved the wonderful gazebo by the pool, ideal for a glass of wine at sunset.
Even at the height of summer the house remained cool.
Talegre was an ideal house for us to rest, relax, unwind and read.
We loved exploring the many nearby beaches and hiking trails along the cliffs of the Alentejo coast.
We look forward to coming back to Talegre and would definitely recommend it to friends.

Talegre is a beautiful place, fantastic accommodation, superb pool with a welcome area to get in the shade if needed on those hot Alentejo afternoons. All of the rooms very comfortable and the kitchen is superbly equipped with all the utensils etc. you need, in particular the very important cork screw J.
The location means you can have relax by the pool, explore some wonderful empty beaches, spend lovely evenings on the terrace with cheese, olives and the local wine, or visit either the villages of São Luis, Cercal or Vila Nova de Milfontes, all of which are extremely friendly and have great places to dine.
This is the best possible place if you are looking for a relaxing break.

Come here for peace, space, charm, rustic location and a beautiful swimming pool. Congratulations to the owners on a very high quality, well-designed and attractive location with touches of luxury like the fridge right by the pool to keep your ice cream and jugs of sangria chilled during the day and the beautiful thick scent of jasmine bushes during the evening. Lying back on the deck with its imaginative marquee-style shade, sipping cold drinks and lazing about between dips will make you half-imagine you are in Barbados. Fantastico!
And if you can bear to leave and go out for the day, really good beaches and excellent restaurants are 20 minutes away at Villa Nova.

Situated in a quiet location off the beaten track (quite literally its 600m down a dirt track!) the property offers an ideal environment for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. This is a part of Portugal which is almost untouched by tourism. Shepherds still roam the hillsides with their flocks and cork from the cork oaks is collected in the traditional way.

Although this is a rural location there are some superb unspoilt beaches within 20 to 30 minutes drive (some suitable for surfing & body boarding) . Vila de Nova Milfontes is 20 minutes by car.

Freshly baked bread, locally grown fruit and veg can be bought in the village of Sao Luis, 3 mins drive away. For a larger selection of shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants there are the small towns of Milfontes, Cercal & Odemira 15 mins drive away. Tennis and horse riding available in Sao Luis.

A car is essential to appreciate this unspoilt corner of Portugal. Beja 1hour, Lisbon 2hours, 45mins to nearest Algarve beaches, Faro airport 1.5hours

Notes:
Ample parking for cars to the side of the property. The path from the cottage to the pool is by way of steps and so is not suitable for people with mobility problems. The property is also not ideal for toddlers due to steps and a few drops.
