YOUR TROPICAL HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Holualoa House Rental Photos and Description

Your Tropical Home Away From Home

This Kona house and yard is amazing. The house is 2072 sq. ft with 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. There is a king bed in the master suite across the house from the other 2 bedrooms, a queen in one bedroom and 2 twins that can function as a king in the third. It's ideal for either a family or 2 or 3 couples to rent together. When this neighborhood was built in 2002 this was the model home so has some up-grades. It does have A/C but it would be rare that it will be needed. Throw the windows open and use ceiling fans which are in every room. The house has beautiful dark hardwood floors in the living/dining rooms, tile in the kitchen/sitting rooms/baths and carpet in the 3 bedrooms. The yard is a half acre with a waterfall spilling into a blue-tiled swimming pool. There are lush, tropical plants in abundance, even pineapple plants and banana trees. At the top of the yard is a gazebo with ocean views which looks through the palms and over the rooftops to the ocean; perfect for entertaining! There is a high top table, 6 bar chairs and wrap-around benches to seat a group. Kids will love this yard and the geckos that live here. There is also a large grassy park within the neighborhood just for residents.

The house is in a gated community called Kahakai Estates. There is a walking path to get to Alii Drive which runs along the coast and one can be there in 10 minutes walking from the house. Driving into the village of Old Kailua-Kona is just a zip down the hill where you will find all kinds of eating establishments and shopping. Also right along Alii Drive are easily accessible beaches with great snorkeling. The Iron Man Race takes off from this town as well. Of course, there is much to do elsewhere on the island but these are the highlights of what is close by.

We are a retired couple from the Central Coast of California who want to spend time in both locations. When we are not on the island we would like to share our home with someone looking for a quality get-away in paradise.

Wren Mead purchased this house in 2013

When we walked in the front door, we loved the house and layout......then we saw the back yard and waterfall into the pool. It felt like being in a private resort and we were smitten!

The pool, waterfall and yard. Who else has a hillside filled with jungle plants and a gazebo for entertaining at the top? And did I mention the waterfall? The melodious sound is music to our ears when we have breakfast on the lanai.

Beautiful house; tropical oasis

  • 5 of 5
The house is in a beautiful quiet gated community. It's a short distance (few minute drive) from shopping/restaurants. The house is a very large, three bedroom bungalow, which was very clean. I also liked the little labels on stuff like the linens and light switches - it made it easy to figure out and is an example of the thoughtfulness put into everything. Similarly, there were menus from local restaurants, snorkelling equipment, books on the island, etc...
I was happy to have a lot of condiments and other staples on hand, since it's such a pain stocking everything for a one week visit.
We were there end of July and it was hot out. The pool was a nice temperature, and the kids spent hours in it. The waterfall is also an excellent feature. The backyard is well-treed so it has good privacy.
The area of the big island is pretty arid, but this yard has been wonderfully cared for and watered to make a great tropical garden with lots of lush plants. The kids enjoyed finding some of the snails and the many geckos. They were also very excited to harvest their own pineapple that was growing in the yard.
All the arrangements went off very easily and smoothly and we felt very well cared-for. It was our first trip to Hawaii, and we started contemplating our return before we had left. Thanks to Wren for making this such a great experience.
Btw - apologies to the neighbours. We had surprised the kids with the house and pool, and their joy at discovering everything may have been a few decibels louder than I expected. :)

Owner's Response: Alexa and Joel are lucky to have you as parents! They not only got to go to the US but to 3 of the Hawaiian islands at ages long before their dad made it.
It was so enjoyable to communicate with you leading up to your stay and to hear your own story about your desire to visit Hawaii. I'm so happy that you finally got here and made the most of it. Maybe the highest compliment that could be paid back to you is that my housekeeper said she couldn't even tell that there had been children in the house (and she has a son about the same age as Joel). That tells me how well-mannered you were as a family.
When you come back (?) we will have the waterfall running for more hours in the day using a new pool pump. We sincerely hope that you might return to our Paradise.
Mahalo to you and for our communications which made you feel much more "real". It's rewarding to share our house with people who feel like friends.

Rental Home in the Kahakai Estates

  • 5 of 5
We arrived just before midnight after a long and grueling day of flight problems to a beautiful and welcoming home that relieved us of all our misfortune and brought us directly into the vacation experience. The backyard is really very delightful like a mini tropical jungle that includes a waterfall and pool. The flowering plants and birds were entertaining and relaxing, to just sit and view from under the lanai from morning till night was meditative. The closely cropped lawn is also wonderful to walk barefoot on in the early morning. The Gazebo is also great to just sit there and view the ocean while swaying in the breeze like the palm trees next to you.

We cook most or our meals and found everything we needed to make each meal work. The cooler, beach chairs, beach towels, and snorkeling gear came in very useful for each of our nine daily excursions the originated each morning from the house.

Little to no noise during the day and night on the road located just outside the front living room and master bedroom windows. The house is centrally located making it a short easy walk to Alii Drive for morning coffee and evening sunsets on the ocean.

We highly recommend this house to anyone who might feel uncomfortable about renting a home. After our experience hotel rooms and condos will never be visited by us again.

Owner's Response: We have also experienced many fulfilling experiences using VRBO for home stay, from Paris to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and beyond. We have always found the properties to be as represented in pictures but what you can't get are the sounds and feel of a place. I am so happy that your family found solace after your trying time to get here.
Our brief experiences of sharing our home have been win-win situations. We have been blessed to have caring and responsible guests to share our home when we cannot be here. It is what makes the situation possible when we are away. In communication with our guests, I feel like we have become "acquainted" with each other in many cases. That is a good feeling when we are letting someone into our home.
We agree with you, Jeff, that hotels just don't cut it, especially if you want to be able to have space, separate bedrooms, cook, and enjoy a real home with a yard….in this case complete with bird chatter and the swaying sounds of the palms.
I hope your future stays in private homes continue to be positive and we would love to have you come back to our paradise at any time.

Fantastic home away from home!

  • 5 of 5
This home was exactly as portrayed on VRBO. It was extremely clean and well kept. The kitchen was well stocked with good quality cooking tools and dishware. The pool was beautiful and the lady who takes care of the pool stopped by to make sure we were satisfied. Although the house doesn't have an ocean view, the cabana at the top of the property does - it is private and a great place to get away from the kids. The landscaping was so lush and the birds were aplenty! I had one small issue the second day with the internet - the owner was easy to contact and worked hard to resolve my issue quickly. I would definitely stay at this home again next year.

We love staying in this neighborhood. It is gated, quiet and safe. We rent scooters for the teenagers and it is close enough to town for them to explore the town and nearby beaches. This home is the nicest one we've rented in this neighborhood.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Anne, for your generous comments. Yes, I love the amazing number of birds that are either in the yard or fly overhead (wild parrots). It's fun to watch them bathe in the birdbath or where the waterfall pools when not on.
We are so fortunate to find renters such as yourself and family to share our home with when we are not there. It's a mutual trust that we each have to share…..you as renters that you will be getting what you see on the posting and us as owners who have to trust that our guests will be respectful of our home.
We welcome you with aloha if you wish to return!

Paradise!

  • 5 of 5
The home is beautiful and very well decorated to make you feel right at home. Wren was more than accommodating for all of our special requests. The backyard ... WOW. They have created a very private and tropical paradise. 80% of our time was spent outside in the pool enjoying the surroundings.
The waterfall is a wonderful treat and when running changes the energy of the entire backyard.
The house is located central to everything!
Thank you Wren. This was truly a wonderful experience. (Thanks to Rebel and Tricia also.)

Owner's Response: We were so happy to have you feel the spirit of Aloha while at our home. The communication between us, before the stay and once or twice during, made me feel confident that you and your friends would be respectful renters.
Thank you for your rapid and flattering review. If you choose to return, we would love to have you. Maybe you will come back to further your musical training?!
I will share your comments with my two helpers as I couldn't do it without them.

amazing backyard paradise

  • 5 of 5
Yep, the pictures of the pool area are not some kind of photoshop magic. It really is a tropical paradise! Fantastic back yard with small pool, waterfall, and treehouse like gazebo made our vacation really special. House was great too. Well-equipped and comfortable. Great location for all of your daytrips to the beach or volcano as Kuakini Hwy is just above the community. It is 2500 steps to the Greenflash coffee shop down on Alii drive at SeaVillage (15 min walk?). Owner is helpful and responsive.

Owner's Response: Your review makes me laugh! That you counted the steps (using a pedometer, I hope) to the Green Flash is amazing…...I'm glad you found that little place. We also like walking into town for breakfast at several locations. Speaking of green flashes, I have seen some of the most amazing ones ever on this island.
We are so pleased that everything lived up to your expectations and that your family had a good stay. I know that you were super happy to get out of winter "back home".
Please let us be your Paradise again whenever you are ready.

Alaskans in Paradise

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I loved this this home in Kailua. It was very convenient to events, stores and activities in Kailua. Further, it was centrally located for trips to volcanoes, across to Hilo, and to the North end. The backyard yard landscaping was beautiful, making a person know they were in the tropics. We spent 90% of our home time in the backyard, enjoying games, the 80 degree pool and relaxing. Sunsets were special from the gazebo. The area was very safe, and the home and lanai were comfortable and clean. We highly recommend renting this fully equipped home while in Kona. The owner was very accomodating and helpful. The Big Island is full of potential for fun, and we filled our time sightseeing, beach time, great restaurants (owner provides suggestions) , volcanoes, waterfalls, golfing, snorkeling, manta ray watching, and don't forget the seahorse farm.

Owner's Response: Dear Alaskans,
It was great to have you spend your time away from the cold at our island home. You really made the most of it while here and did and saw lots! As well, it sounds like you did enjoy quiet time by the pool and around the house.
Thank you for the compliments regarding the house, yard and convenience to everything. We would be grateful to have you recommend to any others wanting to get out of the cold!
We learned something from you…….we will have to look into the seahorse farm since that's a new one to us!
