Holualoa House Rental Photos and Description

Your Tropical Home Away From Home

This Kona house and yard gives room to roam. The house is 2072 sq. ft with 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. There is a king bed in the master suite across the house from the other 2 bedrooms, a queen in one bedroom and 2 twins that can function as a king in the third. It's ideal for either a family or 2 or 3 couples to rent together. When this neighborhood was built in 2002 this was the model home so has some up-grades. It does have A/C but it would be rare that it will be needed. Throw the windows open and use ceiling fans which are in every room. The house has beautiful dark hardwood floors in the living/dining rooms, tile in the kitchen/sitting rooms/baths and carpet in the 3 bedrooms. The yard is a half acre with a waterfall spilling into a blue-tiled swimming pool. There are lush, tropical plants in abundance, even pineapple plants and banana trees. At the top of the yard is a gazebo with ocean views which looks over the rooftops to the ocean; perfect for entertaining! There is a high top table, 6 bar chairs and wrap-around benches to seat a group. Kids will love this yard and the geckos that live here. There is also a large grassy park within the neighborhood just for residents.

The house is in a gated community called Kahakai Estates. There is a walking path to get to Alii Drive which runs along the coast and one can be there in 10 minutes walking from the house. Driving into the village of Old Kailua-Kona is just a zip down the hill where you will find all kinds of eating establishments and shopping. Also right along Alii Drive are easily accessible beaches with great snorkeling. The Iron Man Race takes off from this town as well. Of course, there is much to do elsewhere on the island but these are the highlights of what is close by.

About Wren Mead

We are a retired couple from the Central Coast of California who want to spend time in both locations. When we are not on the island we would like to share our home with someone looking for a quality get-away in paradise.

Wren Mead purchased this house in 2013

Why Wren Mead chose Holualoa

When we walked in the front door, we loved the house and layout......then we saw the back yard and waterfall into the pool. It felt like being in a private resort and we were smitten!

What makes this house unique

The pool, waterfall and yard. Who else has a hillside filled with jungle plants and a gazebo for entertaining at the top? And did I mention the waterfall? The melodious sound is music to our ears.

Perfect in so many ways!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a better set up for our family. There were six of us total. Husband, wife, 7 year old girl and 17 year old girl with Down Syndrome. My in-laws were not very mobile. My mother-in-law has a cane and my father-in-law is a little wobbly on his feet. House was flat for easy navigating (only steps were 4 that led to the pool). Very nice inside! Lots of fans to keep it cool. Master Br is on one side of the house and the other two bedrooms on the opposite - which made it easier for people to stay up later than others. Everything inside was very nice and well taken care of. No short supply of any of the annoying things one might run into when renting a vacation home. As a previous reviewer said - the house and grounds were so welcoming and comfortable we could have stayed there all week (without going anywhere else). Property is fantastically (and I mean fantastically) landscaped and manicured. Oranges, Bananas, geckos, mongoose, lots of birds, a gazebo to sit in with your morning coffee to welcome the sun coming over the hill or have your glass of wine to watch the sun disappear into the water. The pool was just right for adults and kids and the waterfall gave it the magical touch of a little noise and nature. An absolute bonus that the tropical birds would come and take bird baths at the top of the waterfall. I can go on for a long time describing how great it was. We have rented VRBO at least a half dozen times. They were all good but this is the best so far. Highly recommend!!

Owner's Response: Aloha Scott and Family, We know that you had a rough patch during the winter months and were looking forward to your time on the island. It's great to know that the house and yard lived up to your expectations. I will pass your compliments on to my gardener since he has a lot of upkeep with one-half acre. We have just returned to the island ourselves and find that the house has been treated well by our renters in the meantime. We feel very fortunate that our experience of renting through VRBO is working out. Thank you for your kind words and please let us be your tropical home away from home again!

A Piece of Heaven

Our family truly enjoyed the perfect paradise getaway at your rental! It felt like home the minute we stepped inside. It's stunning in many ways. It's beautifully decorated inside, but the outside is the Hawaiian crown jewel. We loved the pool and the peaceful lush landscape. It felt like we were on our very own tropical island. We wanted to be the castaways that never got rescued! The meandering path beckoned us to the gazebo where we enjoyed many multi-flamed sunsets over the ocean and a memorable birthday party. We loved watching the antics of the geckos, the elusive mongooses and the soaring songs of the birds were some of our favorite past times - all in the backyard! Mahalo - Malama pono!!

Owner's Response: Dear Eileen and family, I love your comparison to being castaways. We feel the same way when we are on the island, in our own yard; we call it Polynesian Paralysis. We keep thinking we SHOULD go snorkeling, stand-up paddle or do more sightseeing but there is something so comfortable just hanging around and we are perfectly content to do that. The only things lacking are little flags to raise on the chaise longues and a waiter to beckon for mai tais! Thank you for letting us help make a memorable birthday and for your kind words and clever description! We look forward to having you again if your plans should include the Big Island.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I brought our two grown kids on our first vacation in over 20 years. It was a great time enjoying snorkeling, boogie boarding, scuba diving, and adventuring. This house was ideal for all of us and was actually one of the highlights of our stay. We went to a luau and the people we sat next to were renting a home close by and said the wanted to stay where we were. This house was beyond our expectations with the pool and the lovely walk up to the gazebo. every morning eating fresh fruit on the lanai and listening to the birds. Wow...I could have stayed there every day and felt satisfied with my vacation. I would definitely stay there again.

Owner's Response: To our guests from the 49th state- After 20 years without a vacation you were way overdue! We are happy to know that your time in the 50th state was rewarding. In other communication you said that you had the "time of your lives" so that's saying a lot. We hope you have broken the spell of going without taking time for a get-away and hope you will return to the island and to our piece of paradise. Mahalo you for your glowing review.

Wonderful for a family!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed out stay at this home. The home itself is extremely clean and has an ideal layout for a family. My wife and daughter stayed there with my parents (4 adults, one child). The kitchen is nicely laid out and the appliances are high quality. The living room space is comfortable and perfect for an evening movie, if desired (great for those with young kids!). The rooms are plenty large enough to be more than comfortable as well, however, the true highlight of this property is the very private and tropical backyard. There is a covered lanai for morning coffee. The pool is WONDERFUL (we spent mornings and evenings out there relaxing). The gazebo has a wonderful view of the ocean and is surrounded with tropical plants and flowers. The grounds are nice enough to make you want to spend real amounts of time at the house rather than running around Kona. Another real plus is the location. You are very near the main Kona-Kailua shopping and restaurant district and the neighborhood is quiet and seemingly very safe (gated). This makes all the things you would want to see on the western coast of the big island within reach.

Suffice to say, if we come back to the big island (we want to), we will be staying here again!

Owner's Response: Aloha Brian and family. We know that you have had good experiences traveling to some of the other islands and that this was a first time to the Big Island. It was very nice that you could gather 3 generations together to relax, play and sightsee. Thank you for making our property your home base and for letting us know how much you enjoyed using the pool, gazebo and yard. It's rewarding to know that we were able to help make your travels and time together a memorable experience. We would love to have you return should that be in your future. Mahalo!

Ironman family

We had a wonderful week in Hawaii. We truly enjoyed the house. Beautifully decorated and very clean. The beds were so comfortable. If we come back some day we would definitely stay here. Thank you.

Owner's Response: Aloha Ironman Family, We were very excited to know that we were accommodating one of the world-class Ironmen and his family for the race. It certainly was important that you be at peak condition before the big day so if you found the beds comfortable, we hope it helped you to get sound sleep. If Anthony decides that once is not enough (although we can't understand the punishment the athletes endure!) we would be honored to have you stay at our home again. Mahalo for your kind review.

Family Getaway from paradise to paradise

  • 5 of 5

We travelled from Oahu to Hawaii with our family of 6 , 4 adults and 2 young boys. The home is very beautiful, well decorated and made us feel immediately at home. It was very clean and organized. We had a wonderful week.

The backyard with the waterfall is very lush and tropical. We spent most of our home time in the backyard, pool and enjoying beautiful sunsets in the gazebo. The neighborhood was very safe to go for a little walk. We will come back to this great house.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Annagret, So nice to hear from you! Your words carry a lot of weight since you yourself own a rental in the islands. We also know that you have very discriminating taste. You celebrated a new year at our property in two ways: with your birthday and the dawn of 2014 during that time. We are happy to know that all 3 generations had a good experience and would make a return visit. Mahalo~
