About Ali McDowell

We were recently introduced to the Grand Lake area and fell in love with it. So we decided to pursue the dream of owning our own cabin and making it available for others to rent. We are an extended family ownership from the Northern Colorado area. The peaceful, serene location of this cabin is what we have fallen in love with.

Ali McDowell purchased this cabin in 2013

My family stayed in this cabin for 3 days and we had a wonderful time! It was in a beautiful location-quiet area on small Lake. Home was comfy and had everything we needed. We would stay again!!!

Best time ever!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here! It was so relaxing and accommodating. The private lake access was amazing, wildlife was abundant and the views were amazing! The location was perfect, not too far from the town as well as the state park. The cabin was cozy. My only complaint was we couldn't stay longer! We will definitely be visiting again!

Colorado Cabin

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was perfect for a great get away. The cabin was as described, but the views are more beautiful than the pictures can show. We saw a lot of wild life, eagle, elk, grey fox, and while driving thru the Rockies, a bear and lots of mountain rams. The town of Grand Lake is close if you like to walk around and go into the small shops. The Kawuneeche visitor center is very close and the rangers were very informative. We received information on different trails, so if you like to hike, they can recommend and tell you what to expect. While back at the cabin, we had fun catching rainbow trout. At night, we spent time just listening to the Elk and gazing at the trillions of stars. It was just beautiful.

Our First Disappointment Using VRBO

  • 2 of 5

We have used VRBO for many years and this is the first time that that I can say that the rental did not meet our expectations. The cabin is in need of some serious maintenance and updating. Not all of the burners on the stove work, the icemaker doesn’t make ice and the overall kitchen area is just old and tired. The bathrooms are also in pretty bad shape. Rust in the sinks and tubs. For us the biggest problem was the WI-FI connection. When we first arrived it did not work at all. After contacting the owners we final got service connection the following night. Unfortunately the connection speed is so slow that all connection requests would time out before connection could be made. This was important to us because we were conducting business while we were on vacation. We ended up finding a connection in town that would work for us. All of the fishing equipment was tangled beyond repair. We purchased all new line to redo each reel. On the positive side we did see a lot of wildlife. The moose in the picture may have been the same moose that my wife ran into while out taking an evening stroll. She was smart enough to quickly retreat and return to the cabin. Overall I would say that the value is just not there for this rental. I will continue to use VRBO because as I stated above up to now we have always been completely satisfied.

Owner's Response: This was the first year for our family to own the cabin and rent it out. The cabin was built in the early 80's and the previous owners had never updated it. As of January 2015, the cabin has had a major renovation, and we believe is up to date to provide our valued guest a memorable vacation. Unfortunately at the time of this rental, we were not able to make the updates until the winter months. The bathrooms have all new tubs and fixtures. Ice and water is now available from the fridge, as we changed the layout of the kitchen. All the appliances have been replaced. We believe that all the new updates and charm will provide an incredible rental. As far as the internet, at this point, we do have the only wifi available. We are continually looking to upgrade and provide the best service. The cabin is in an unique spot to have so much wildlife right outside of it. Since the cabin is less than a mile from Rocky Mountain National Park, it is very probable that our guests will get to see an amazing amount of wildlife. Thank you for all the valuable input.

all the comforts of home with the addition of great atmosphere.

6 adults, three small boys and 6 were from Texas. Was an awsome experience for my family and now they want to move to Colorado. Cabin was very comfortable and all had enough space and privacy. Cabin had everything one could need plus some. My only suggestion would be to have a small t.v in each bedroom or be able to stream movies on computer so several people could relax at night and watch what they like. Otherwise, no complaints.

Wonderful Soul-Reviving Cabin on the Lake!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I cannot express just how warm, welcoming, and enjoyable this cabin is. We lacked for nothing! The lake is gorgeous and the owners provide everything you need to enjoy it. I spent many relaxing mornings and evenings on the dock just letting the atmosphere take my stress away. We even got to see the river otter a few times! Great place to stay. We have tried many rentals and this one felt like a second home. The owners are great people too. When my daughter left her favorite doll behind, they had her to us the next day. This is a very family friendly, off the beaten path, yet close to all you need in Grand Lake, place to stay. We are already planning our return trip!
