Information on Kuru: Kuru is a former municipality of Finland, now part of the town of Ylöjärvi.

Kuru is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Pirkanmaa region. Kuru lies 50 kilometres (31 mi) north of Tampere. The municipality had a population of 2,782 and covered an area of 820.48 km² of which 103.53 km² is water. The population density was 3.4 inhabitants per km². The service industry is the primary employer for the area. Kuru was consolidated with the town of Ylöjärvi on January 1, 2009.

The municipality was bilingually Finnish.

The water from the streams and river in Kuru is so clean, it is drinkable without purification. The vast majority of Kuru is either water or forest. In fact, 550 km², out of 820.48 km², of the district is covered with forests. Popular activities include canoing, swimming, fishing, hiking, camping, backpacking and other outdoor activities.

Kuru has vast natural resources including wood, water and stone.

Seitseminen national park: Seitseminen National Park is situated at the Suomenselkä, a rugged watershed region. Forests, mires and eskers alternate in the landscape. In the set of living organisms in the park, many of the northern species are represented. The National Park was established to conserve the intricate mosaic of forest and mire ecosystems.

Seitseminen National Park is ideal for day trips or for hikes lasting a couple of days. Longer trips can be extended to for example Riuttaskorpi recreational forest and Helvetinjärvi National Park, on a hiking trail network called Pirkan Taival.

Helvetinjärvi National Park: The deep gorges of Helvetinjärvi National Park were formed millions of years ago by faults in the bedrock running right through the area. Today this rugged scenery attracts hikers for both day trips and camping. From the Park it is possible to walk all the way to Riuttaskorpi recreational forest and Seitseminen National Park on hiking routes called Pirkan Taival.

Helvetinjärvi National Park is representative of the variable, wild forest landscape of the northern part of the former Province of Häme. Special features of the area include deep rifts, steeply sided lakes, small forest ponds and remote forests. Helvetinkolu, one of the gorges, has attracted visitors since 1800s, and it is still the most popular destination in the Park.
