SAN LUIS OBISPO: “THE HAPPIEST PLACE IN AMERICA”
The 'Irish Hills House' at the top of Prefumo Canyon has the Best View in SLO with stunning 180-degree views stretching from ocean, valley, mountain and cityscape. This spot is really about the incredible view and guests say that the photos do not do it justice.
Our pet-friendly vacation rental has two bedrooms with a king bed downstairs and three queen beds upstairs. We store an additional reserve queen size futon, roll away bed and a 2014 'Pack n' Play' for babies. There are bathrooms on each level, a large outfitted modern kitchen, potbelly stove for cozy nights and a large outdoor deck. There are great views from every window!
The coastal retreat halfway between LA and SF is a short 15 minute scenic drive to downtown SLO (Thursday Night Farmer’s Market, restaurants, nightlife etc.) and beautiful Avila Beach (spectacular beach, pier, shops, wineries, etc). You are in a serene and peaceful setting, but not too far from all the action!
We are on 8 mountain top acres with world class views, hikes and wildlife right outside your door. Barbecue, share a meal and wine on the deck or picnic down by the raised garden beds. We invite our guests to enjoy fresh vegetables and eggs from the gardens and henhouse, so help yourself! In addition to our chickens, we have a pet tortoise named 'Walter' and a Koi Pond in front of the Irish Hills House.
The vacation rental is well suited to romantic & girls getaways, family friendly & cal poly parents stays, adventure seekers & coastal journeys.
This is a dedicated VRBO, which is professionally cleaned before each guest's arrival with clean and fresh, sheets and towels. The house is maintained in pristine condition in preparation to offer a 'hotel-clean' experience amongst breathtaking mountain-top views in nature and tranquility.
The Irish Hills House is across a deck from our main home. We respect boundaries and the experience is intimate and free of distraction.
We run 98% occupancy, so if you see an opening and you are ready - please book! It happens too often that we discuss a booking with a potential guest and someone else 'instant books'. This is always a bummer!
See you soon!

Anna and I enjoy traveling and hosting people at our beautiful vacation rental. We live in San Luis Obispo, California where Anna is an organic farmer and I am an entrepreneur.
We enjoy exploring new places and meeting new people.
Anna & Ryan.
Ryan & Anna purchased this house in 2008
This home has the most spectacular view in San luis Obispo. I had a home in Big Sur and this was comparable to one of the world's great view sheds (Big Sur).
The Irish Hills Home provides a unique opportunity to access views and experiences which are inaccessible.
Ryan and Anna were wonderful hosts. They were very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed for the stay. The location and view is truly amazing. It was definitely worth the drive up the mountain. Next time we are in SLO, we will not hesitate to contact Ryan and Anna.
My friends and I were doing a girls trip and wanted a nice place that was easily accessible to wineries as well as downtown SLO. This place had an amazing view and plenty of walking trails with the most gorgeous scenery. Anna and Ryan were wonderful hosts. They even ran out and got us pizza one night which was over and above! We would consider this house again if we ever came back. Great stay!
Up, up, up you drive into some of the most glorious, green hills you can find in California. This was a long weekend/Valentine's Day getaway for my husband and I, along with my husband's cousin and his wife--we had been interested in exploring the Paso Robles & SLO are wine tasting regions so we finally booked this trip way back in Nov. 2014. When I saw this house I didn't hesitate to book it right away. It looked quite impressive on it's VRBO page and it certainly exceeded expectations in person.
You take a windy road up into the hills...the funny thing was a member of our group mentioned how the scenery seemed reminiscent of Ireland--so it was no surprise that the area is affectionately referred to as the 'Irish Hills'.
We arrived at the house which was at peak of one of the many hills you will climb--the view is spectacular! I can not do the view justice with my words alone but I will tell you, you will see a few cars parked at the peak who have come to just take in the view for a day. It is THAT beautiful. You can even see Morro Rock.
As for the house and it's amenities, I'll try to avoid too much repetition from other reviewers who have given a good explanation of the layout of the house but I can add that the house was in great condition for being a rental. I've been to other rentals that look great in pictures but upon arrival, even though they are updated the wear and tear from visitors is apparent. This house looked more like someone's home based on the way it has been kept up.
The beds were warm and comfortable...the king bed in the living area was very comfy but it did sag a bit on one side but it was still fine. The kitchen was stocked well and and had all the small appliances you need to make breakfast to your liking. Ryan and Anna even provided eggs fresh from their hens outside in the chicken coop upon our arrival.
The only venturing outside I was able to do took me straight to the chicken coop to feed the hens and let them out of their coop (make sure you count them and stay near by to watch them) for some dust baths. The hens loved this and were having a blast. I felt guilty when it was time to round them back up and get them back into their coop. lol They also have a tortoise in a habitat right outside the house and a koi pond as well. At night the stars shine bright as the lack of light pollution in the area leaves your view unhindered. Overall a great place to stay and we will definitely be back when in SLO again.
I don't even know where to begin. The accomodations were perfect for my husband, I and our sharpei/lab mix, Shadow. Anna and Ryan are perhaps the most welcoming hosts we have found with VRBO. There is plenty of privacy, but they are there if you need anything. Do not miss out on the fresh eggs if available, I am thinking of getting chickens, they were so tasty!
The views are not exagerated and well worth the trip up the hill!
This truly is a "get away from it all" opportunity not to be missed. We will be back!
I have a lot of experience of VRBO rentals, and Ryan and Anna have totally exceeded my expectations in creating such a beautiful and comfortable guest house. The space is roomy, up-to-date and attractive, and they are welcoming and accommodating hosts. With my self, my husband and daughter, and our dog, there was more than enough room. The area makes you feel like you are away from it all, while everything you need is a convenient 10 minute drive away. We will be back soon.
We had a great time with our 11yr old daughter and two small dogs. The walk along the road to see the sights was fantastic with great views of the ocean and inland. Feeding the chickens and getting to see the neighborhood dogs was top of the list for us. We plan to return soon.
My Cal Poly girlfriends and I stayed in the Irish Hills house and there was plenty of room for all 6 of us. The space is adequate for more people and it's pet friendly. The dog is very friendly and he even went with us on a hike. Anna was very accommodating when we needed more towels. She came right over. We didn't meet Ryan until the day we left. Both were very nice! Ok now, the view of Morro Rock and Morro Bay was absolutely breathtaking. The green hills were spectacular! You could see Bishop and Madonna peak. The location was not that far from downtown SLO, Avila Beach, Cal Poly etc. I could have easily stayed there a month. It's just so relaxing and peaceful. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in a nice, quiet, and clean vacation home. Thank you Anna and Ryan!
