Overview

Jefferson House Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Sleeps 6-10, Like New, Fully Equipped, Great Views

HAS IT ALL: This like-new vacation getaway has great views of three mountain ranges from its wooded lot, a well-equipped modern kitchen, tasteful decor throughout, and all the entertainment and communication conveniences you could want (e.g., complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, three HDTVs with DVRs, two Blu-Rays, Wii games, iPod cradles, and Sirius/XM radio). And if that isn't enough to keep everybody busy, it also features a large library (books, videos, games, and maps), a regulation horseshoe court, a 150-yard sledding hill, miles of remote roads to explore, Colorado's best fishing areas nearby, and world-class skiing just 55 minutes away.

A SPECIAL PLACE: Located in the extraordinary South Park area of Colorado, this cabin-style home has convenience, class, character...and chance! A chance to see amazing mountain vistas. To explore Colorado's gold rush history. To fish the famous trout waters of the South Platte. To challenge your 4-wheeler to Mosquito and Georgia Passes or your 2-wheeler to Boreas and Guanella Passes. To raft the Arkansas, soak in the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, ski Breck, or hike/bike the Lost Creek Wilderness. All from one special hideaway in the shadows of Indian Mountain.

LAY-BACK OPTIONS: Or, just hang out and enjoy the beauty and serenity of the cabin itself. Relax on the expansive deck with lovely views of the valley below and the Continental Divide in the distance. Or cozy-up on one of the four leather couches in a throw or comforter with a cup of hot chocolate as you watch the snow fall silently on the spruce and pine. Or take-in a summer storm from the rain-proof comfort of the covered patio's rocking chairs.

INTERIOR COMFORT: You'll especially enjoy the tastefully appointed cabin interior. On the upper level you will find two of its three roomy bedrooms, one of its two full baths, an amazing kitchen, a dining area in a windowed alcove, and an open Great Room with vaulted Aspen ceiling and gorgeous views from a wall of windows.

The lower level was custom-built to our unique specifications. It features a spacious Master Suite including a comfy reading area and a generous Master Bath, a media / entertainment room, an office area, and a laundry/utility room. If your party includes older folks or those with disabilities, the lower level provides bed, bath, and entertainment just 1 step above the driveway level.

WOODS AND VIEWS: The home sits on a private, mostly wooded lot above an expansive valley. In addition to 2,050 square feet of living space, the 900 square feet of open deck and covered patio give more than enough room to take-in the fresh mountain air and amazing alpine views.

THE AREA: Located in the Indian Mountain area of South Park in central Colorado, it is near the small and quaint towns of Jefferson, Como, Tarryall, Alma, and Fairplay. A little further out, but still less than an hour's drive (honest), are well-known resort areas like Breckenridge, Buena Vista, and Eleven Mile Reservoir. Finally, the big Front Range cities of Denver and Colorado Springs offer infinite adventures and shopping within a 95 mile scenic day trip.

FLORA AND FAUNA: Wildlife is plentiful around our private cabin; we have seen deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, big horn sheep, mountain goat, fox, beaver, bobcat, coyote, owl, eagle, hawk, hummingbird, and an occasional small bear. In addition, the fields and Aspen stands surrounding our cabin are adorned with over ten varieties of alpine wildflowers, depending on the season. Children love the cattle and horses frequently crossing the local roads, and there are bison. llama, and alpaca ranches nearby to delight all.

STAR GAZING: You haven't lived if you've never seen the Milky Way from nearly two miles above sea level. Star gazing from our deck is indescribable. Moon and meteors too! We provide binoculars for night or day gazing. And if the evening is cloudy or cool out on the deck, just fire up the self-lighting 30,000 BTU fire bowl with lava rocks!

EXTRAS: The cabin has every modern amenity you might desire, including Wi-Fi, three HDTVs with DVRs, two DVD/Blu-Ray players, Sirius/XM radio, Wii, and more. It was built in 2008 and furnished as our family's home-away-from-home, so no 'rental-style' budget purchases here. We still stay at the house frequently, and we handle the maintenance and improvements ourselves, so it's always in great shape. We've made it perfect for ourselves, so it will be perfect for your family or group as well.

YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL: Whether for world-class skiing or gold-medal fishing, hiking or scenic touring, history or eco-adventure, staying busy or relaxing in serenity, this area has it all. We hope you will come and enjoy it from this special cabin.

(We have provided many more details and descriptions in the sections below. BTW, our distance and drive times everywhere in this listing are tested and accurate--we have noticed that some ads for properties in our area seem to give times and distances we don't understand.)

We welcome your inquiries and will get back in touch very quickly with any additional information or clarification you request.

About Pete Weaver

My wife and I have lived in Pittsburgh PA our entire lives. In preparation for retirement in late 2013, we purchased this gorgeous cabin just before the market crash in 2008 (timing is everything they say!).

Now that retirement has come, we want to share it with others while we augment our modest retirement income. By the way, we still use our place about one week every month, so it is easy for us to keep it well-maintained. Being handy and having lots of time these days, we do most of the upkeep, repairs, and improvements ourselves. It will be in tip top shape for your arrival.

Pete Weaver purchased this house in 2008

Why Pete Weaver chose Jefferson

We have both been active in Young Life since our teen years, and spent many summers at Young Life's Christian ranches here in central Colorado. Over the years, we have also enjoyed the high-country while 4-wheeling with our sons and friends. We think of this area as 'God's Big Country.' With the help of our son in Colorado Springs, we looked for a cabin not too far from the Front Range airports, yet near the Arkansas River Valley, the Collegiate Peaks area, and Buena Vista. South Park is that place. It's a truly remarkable area! We love that this alpine basin is wide open to see views of major mountain ranges in all directions from any given location, yet bluffs, rock outcroppings, ridges, and valleys provide perfect locations for serene seclusion. The Indian Mountain area of South Park is near the small towns of Jefferson and Como, and is about 15 miles northeast of Fairplay, the county seat of Park County. Indian Mountain has an active rural HOA with covenants that guarantee a pleasant environment. No firearms or ATVs to overwhelm the natural silence (there is a new shooting range a few miles away for firearm enthusiasts and ATV trails nearby). The South Park area, and Indian Mountain in particular, is simply a perfect setting for your fishing, skiing, site-seeing, 4-wheeling, or relaxing getaway!

Another resident of the area recently described why her family leaves Denver every chance they get to come to her cabin near ours: 'We crave the peace and silence of our retreats to Indian Mountain. They are restorative, transformational, soothing. Nature feeds a very basic human need and we are very blessed to enjoy this little piece of heaven.'

What makes this house unique

After spending three days exploring over thirty available properties in central Colorado, my wife finally smiled from ear-to-ear when she stood on the deck of this lovely new cabin. Framed by rustic log railings, the 400 sq. ft. redwood deck provides beautiful mountain views with ample sitting and eating areas. We had the builder add a custom-designed, stained and stamped concrete patio under the deck, fully rain-proofed from the decking gaps above. You see, we LOVE to stay dry while sitting outside taking-in a summer storm. We bet you will too. So make arrangements soon to enjoy this versatile and comfy getaway. It's very accessible being just under 2 hours from Denver or Colorado Springs, about an hour from Buena Vista, and 55 minutes from Breckenridge.

My wife and I have stayed in numerous pet friendly rentals in the Fairplay / Breckenridge Colorado area over the past year and the mountain home in South Park was by far the best we have experienced. The home is easy access for loading and unloading. The cabin is incredible inside and out with many electronic extras. Everything works and is well laid out on both floors. We hope to stay here as our travel requires us to in the coming months. I would recommend the mountain home in South Park to anyone whether you are bringing your pets or not. Brian Scarborough

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

We were very excited to stay at the Weaver Cabin and weren't disappointed. The photos on the web site, as beautiful as they are, don't do the actual views and facilities justice. Literally every inch of the cabin was immaculate with beautiful & comfortable furnishings, brand new appliances and electronics, VERY comfortable beds and bedding, and too many special little touches to mention. Pete was very attentive without being overbearing making sure we made it to the cabin without difficulty and that we were happy & comfortable. This was our first visit to Colorado and we absolutely loved it. The Weaver Cabin was the icing on the cake and we look forward to another visit soon.

We couldn't have asked for anything better. The cabin was wonderful and very homey. Had everything from beautiful furnishings to a wonderful view. If you're ok with being away from it all this is the place for you. And yes...the stars are spectacular

COZY AND CLEAN, A DREAM HOME, AFFORDABLE STAY

  • 5 of 5

The Weaver Cabin was very cozy, clean, and has amazing mountain views! This cabin had everything we needed for an excellent experience. My family and I absolutely enjoyed staying here. I worked from here as well, so the internet connection was VERY GOOD for working online with an comfortable desk and a mountain view - amazing! After work, we headed out to some of the recommendation attractions in the area; Pete and his wife provided A LOT of brochures full of information of the area, as well as a thick binder that was put together with things to know about the home, dining recommendations, and things to do, home amenities and emergency instructions. There was a large flat screen TVs in the media-movie room with surround sound in the entire room also with a great library of DVD and Blueray movies, and also a Wii game with games. The decor was beautiful, and every amenity needed to stay there comfortably. All you bring is food if you want to cook or grill out at the house. A grocery store is nearby. Pete Weaver also called to make sure you got to the cabin OK, as well as checking in during the week to see if we needed anything, and if your stay is as perfect as can be! When I got there he left a nice card with a box of chocolate! That gesture of kindness was very welcoming. I really felt welcomed. The area also has abundant wildlife, I saw herds of pronghorn antelope, foxes, and cute cows from the nearby cattle ranches. We went to dinner in Breckenridge and the Weaver's favorite restaurant as recommended and had an amazing dinner. I would highly recommend a stay at the Weaver Cabin, especially if you want a place that is 1.5 from Denver away from people and congestion, and have a cozy, quiet and peaceful place to stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Cindy! We are so glad you had a great week at our mountain home. And thanks for trying out Hearthstone in Breckenridge--we've never had less than an amazing meal there. Please come visit us again some time, maybe in the summer months to see the other dimensions of the South Park experience. --Pete and Dee

Very nice cabin, excellent hosts!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was extremely clean, very well furnished, nice, and had everything you could ever need on a stay away from home. The Weavers were absolutely fantastic in every regard! Their book provided with the cabin had a very detailed guide to all the things to do near by, how to operate everything within the home, and all necessary information and answers to any questions you may have. Excellent views, overall excellent stay. If you want a cabin far away from congestion, this one is it! 20 min drive to basic needs, 50 mins to Breckenridge. Thanks again!

Owner's Response: It was great having you as our guests, Matthew! Thanks for the kind words, and please come back again sometime. Yes, all of our guests have sought a peaceful location away from the "maddening crowds" with views and nature surrounding them, yet within 25 minutes of all necessities and an hour or less of world-class activities. We're glad you loved it as much as we do! --Pete and Dee

Incredible Modern Cabin - Loaded with Amenities!

  • 5 of 5

Without question this is one of the nicest cabins I’ve ever stayed in. This cabin is more like a house than a cabin and is literally loaded with all of the amenities that you would find in the best condo or cabin costing many times more than what the Weaver’s charge. From the HD TV’s located throughout the entire cabin including access to a library of Blue Ray DVD’s to the ultra modern kitchen, living room and game room, you’ll enjoy every moment of your stay here. The scenery the cabin is nestled in is simply breathtaking. As you relax in comfort in the living room, you can’t help but notice the unbelievable view of the majestic mountains that surround you. As an avid skier, I found the location to ski slopes to be very convenient and a great place to come home to after a long day on the slopes. Everyone in our group was more than well pleased with our stay in this cabin and I can say without any reservation, we will be coming back. I fully intend to recommend this cabin to all of my friends as I know they will appreciate it just as much as I do. While on the surface, the cabin may seem to be somewhat remote. It’s really not, especially when you realize that just down the road is a local town where you can buy all of the groceries and supplies that you would ever need during your stay. The owner’s are magnificent, too. They are very customer focused. The Weaver’s checked on us before we arrived, during and afterwards to make sure that our stay was nothing less than wonderful. They are simply wonderful people and real pleasure to deal with. This cabin is truly a “5 Star” stay. I will guarantee you that it will exceed your expectations if you stay here.

At the headwaters of the South Platte River, South Park is well known for its hiking, fishing, horseback riding, jeeping, hunting, camping, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ATVs, rock climbing, geocaching, ghost towns, and scenic drives. It is a 1,000 square mile, alpine grassland basin that affords beautiful views of mountain ranges such as the Park Range, the Mosquito Range, the Tarryall Mountains, and the Continental Divide. Many '14'ers' are easily accessible (i.e., mountains higher than 14,000 feet).

Wildlife includes moose, elk, mountain lion, big horn sheep, deer, fox, beaver, porcupine, bobcat, lynx, coyote, wolf, hawk, owl, hummingbirds, etc. And oh yes, of course: FISH!. The South Platte River area is perhaps the best fly fishing for trout in Colorado, and several reservoirs nearby provide excellent still-water fishing.

South Park is one of only 49 federally designated National Heritage Areas in the US and it is replete with historical sites from the early gold rush days of Colorado. For example, South Park City, an outdoor walking museum in Fairplay, is a fascinating restoration of over 40 actual buildings from the mid-1800's, and is well worth a couple hours of your time. The nearby alpine villages of Fairplay and Alma (USA's highest incorporated town) offer many yearly events around holidays. Fairplay's Burro Days in August attracts over 10,000 visitors.

South Park is just over Hoosier Pass (via highway) or Boreas Pass (a scenic mountain road) from Breckenridge, one of the world's premier ski resorts and mountain getaways. 'Breck' is a wonderful alpine village with superb shopping, restaurants, art galleries, mountain sports, golf, and more. But lodging in Breckenridge is notoriously expensive. Our cabin in South Park is the 'budget solution' to expensive Breckenridge lodging. (And yes, we have a rack that holds 4-8 skis and/or snowboards).

***Special clarification: This area is 'big country.' There are hundreds of things to do, but things are spread out. The list of 'Activities' elsewhere in this listing represents an honest accounting of the variety of attractions and adventures within a 30-60 minute drive of our cabin.
