ISLAND RETREAT IN PRIVATE, FORESTED SETTING, SLEEPS FROM 2 - 7

Bowen Island House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, Sleeps from 2 - 7

Less than an hour from downtown Vancouver, Bowen Island is a 20 minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay or 35 minutes from Granville Island & downtown by ferry. The house can be found in a private wooded setting just 5 minutes' walk to beaches, the amenities of Snug Cove and the ferry terminal.

Situated up a private driveway, set back from the road, Salmon's Leap provides a haven for writers, artists or those in search of a quiet, inspirational retreat as well as families wanting to spend the day on the beach or exploring the coast inlets by kayak.

The custom built house comprises 2 large bedrooms upstairs with vaulted ceilings & walk-in closets, and a double bedroom on the main floor. The master bedroom has an ensuite full bathroom and a den leading off it. The master bedroom also has a balcony which overlooks the forest and creek.

There is another full bathroom on the main floor.

The kitchen and dining room are open plan and lead into the glass fronted living room whose patio doors open onto the front, Italian-tiled deck.

The house is equipped with a dishwasher, washer & dryer, TV, stereo, DVD & iPod player & wireless internet connection.

There is a queen size bed in the master bedroom, queen size and twin bed in the second bedroom and a king size (or 2 twin) beds in the third bedroom.

Salmon's Leap is suitable as a getaway for a writing sabbatical, executive accommodation accessible to downtown or a family on a West Coast vacation.

I moved to Bowen Island in 2006 where I enjoy hiking in the local mountains and being on the water in between working as crew on scientific research vessels.

Claire Allen purchased this house in 2006

I chose this property for it's close proximity to the amenities of Bowen Island and quiet setting on the creek.

This gem in the forest is right on the trails that lead to the ocean as well as beautiful Killarney Lake.

Watching the wildlife on the creek from the front porch. Herons, Great Horned Owls Kingfishers and beavers make their home along the creek beside the house and salmon leap up the ladder during the run in the Fall.

Six friends came from various locales to reunite at this very comfortable house. The house is lovely - lots of wood, warm colours, outdoor decks, comfortable beds and a stream to lull you to sleep. It's a beautiful walk through the park to get between the house and ferry or to the shops and restaurants. The trail to Killarney Lake is nearby and is an easy scenic walk. Everything surpassed our expectations. This place is highly recommended.

Surpassed our expectations

  • 5 of 5
Our family (all eight of us) hired the retreat for a few nights after Christmas to get away from our routines in the city and enjoy each other's company. We live far apart and only get to spend a week together each year; what we hoped for was someplace quiet and vaguely remote with fewer distractions. We couldn't have chosen better -- surrounded by mighty cedars and listening to the rush of the stream at the front door, it was hard to believe we were only a short ferry ride from the mainland. You can even walk from the ferry landing to the house along a pleasant path through the woods (and for the architectural enthusiast, the nearby library is particularly fine). To our delight we found the house is just a stone's throw from the trail that leads on a long hike around the lake, which is highly recommended. The landscape changes in the most remarkable way, and there were some unforgettable vistas. Going along the sleepy roads at night I saw more stars than I have in many years.

The house easily won all of us over with its charm. It is spacious, clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated, with an endearing kind of lived-in honesty about it. We passed many an hour by the fire in the incredibly cozy wood-paneled den drinking wine, playing games and filling out one of those oversized crosswords that come in the papers this time of year. The kitchen has everything necessary, including, crucially, a coffee grinder and a french press. We took turns cooking meals (the island grocer is surprisingly well-stocked) and were able to fit everyone (plus baby) at the table comfortably for meals together. Everyone reported sleeping well.

The owner was helpful at every step. Ours was a wonderful experience that none of us will soon forget. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone.

delightful weekend away

  • 4 of 5
My wife and I spent a long weekend at Salmon's Leap on Bowen Island with another couple and their 2 young kids. Accommodation was private, quiet, clean and comfortable. The owner was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about activities on Bowen. Highlights included a hike to the top of Mount Gardiner (owner gave us directions) and excellent fish and chips at the local pub, a short walk from the house.

girls weekend retreat

  • 4 of 5
A group of girlfriends (5 in total), from around BC who never have a chance to catch up decided to make time to get together for a long weekend, recently.
We chose this lovely, relaxed home on Bowan Island, due to its close proximity to the ferry , coffee shops and easy walking. It was a great a place to hang-out and had enough space for us all, a cozy living room, and a big table to gather around. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Forest trails and a salmon creek flank the house, and offer miles of walks in the mixed forest of Cedar, Hemlock, Douglas Fir and Arbutus. Local wildlife include great blue herons, tree frogs, woodpeckers, ducks, deer beavers and otters.

There are opportunities to kayak from the nearby kayak outfitters, or hike along forest trails close to the house. More challenging hiking can be found up Mt Gardner which has a 720 m elevation gain.

Salmons' Leap is also the perfect place to go for a quiet retreat and is an easy stroll's distance from the shops, restaurants beaches and ferry.
