'THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS' - PRICE, HEATED POOL, IN A TOWN AND LOCAL TRANSPORT

Ponte a Moriano Villa Rental Photos and Description

Recently restored villa, with heated pool, in a small market town near Lucca

This liberty style villa stands in it's own grounds in the small market town of Ponte Moriano, near Lucca. It has a long entrance hall with a large lounge/dining room to the right, in which there is a large screen TV and a piano. To the left there is the first of four bedrooms, this one offers two single beds. Half way down the hallway is an entrance leading to two more bedrooms with two single beds in each one and the master bedroom with a double bed. Between these bedrooms there are two separate bathrooms. At the end of the hallway is a fully fitted kitchen/diner with fridge dishwasher, washing machine, hob and oven. There is a door at the end of the hallway allowing easy access from the kitchen to an outside eating area for those alfresco meals. Outside there is a heated swimming pool, very rare in this area. There is a tiled sunbathing area around the pool and ample parking for two cars inside the fence of the villa.

The walled city of Lucca: Lucca is a beautiful walled medieval city, which is the birthplace of Puccini. The city is mostly pedestrianised, which is fantastic for cycling and walking. The countryside north of Lucca is breathtaking with many medieval villages perched on wooded hillsides. There are many beautiful palazzos, spas and vineyards to visit in the area. Florence, Pisa and the beaches are all within a short distance. In the summer there are many musical events: Puccini opera at Torre del lago, whilst in Lucca, during July, several of the worlds best musicians play in the amphitheatre. There are also several jazz festivals. There are many superb restaurants within 15 mins of the house. Fungi and truffles are some of the local specialities and olive oil from Lucca is one of the best in the world. One hour's drive north from the house is the beautiful ski resort of Abetone. This is a very popular resort with very good facilities.

Fantastic 40th Treat

  • 5 of 5
My husband & I have just returned from a fantastic holiday at the Villa Dora, this was a treat for my 40th birthday and what a treat it was. On our arrival we were met by Sabrina the lady who manages the property, she gave us a quick guided tour of the villa which included a very generous welcome pack. The villa was spotlessly clean as was the pool which is cleaned every morning by Sabrina and her husband, they were both extremely kind and very helpful regarding the local information, bus times, places to eat & visit etc, we would have been lost without her.
Our vist to Lucca on Sabrina's recomendation was wonderful with lots of narrow cobbled streets filled with little shops selling everything from clothes, leather goods to olive oils and salamis, we had lunch in the roman ampitheatre which was delicious and the atomsphere was amazing, we could have sat there all afternoon, we also visited Barga, this is a walled village and right at the top(after climbing a few steps) is a fantastic church, the views from here of the Tuscan countryside are breathtaking.
In Ponte A Moriano itself are a number of shops, restaurants and delis, all of them sell great food but our particular favourite was the Restaurante de Pinzo, they also provide a take away service during the day selling freshly made dishes we sampled the homemade lasagne - delicious. There is also a market in the square on a Tuesday & a supermaket a short drive away.
The best meal that we had was at Antica Locanda about a 30 minute walk, this is a 300 year old Trattoria and a lot of the produce is made on site, this really is a wonderful place to eat for a special occasion.
We stayed for 9 days but wished that we had booked for longer, this really is special place to stay and we shall definitely be booking again.

Wonderful Holiday

  • 5 of 5
My wife and my 3 year old daughter were in need of a very relaxing and wonderful holiday and chose to stay at Villa Dora in Ponte a Moriano, and I must say we were not disappointed. Ponte a Moriano is a beautiful little village a short drive from historic Lucca and a short drive from Pisa Airport; it is set in the beautiful Tuscan hills and has everything you would expect of a small Italian village. The villa itself is a beautiful liberty style villa with a wonderfully decorated interior and every amenity you may require. It also benefits from having an amazing pool which as you can imagine was a massive hit with our daughter. At times it was difficult to drag ourselves away from lounging round the pool to go and visit the wonderful surrounding area! The villa was scrupulously clean and the pool was cleaned on a daily basis by Sabrina the lady who manages the property. Sabrina was a godsend not only cleaning the pool she is fluent in both English and Italian and came to our rescue on many an occasion!
When we eventually managed to drag ourselves away from the beautiful pool and villa we explored Lucca a must see for anyone who visits the villa with its beautiful architecture, historic walls and wonderful shops, markets and restaurants. Another must is a visit to the outdoor pool in the Tuscan hills at Banga di Lucca, it is truly breathtaking scenery and another must if you visit. Within Ponte there are a number of lovely little shops, delis and resturants the pick of which for us was the Giardinatto. This place sells the best food in Ponte and we visited it most nights! We stayed for 10 days and it wasn’t enough to do everything we wanted although it has left it open that we MUST come back to do it all, and get another few wonderful days sunbathing at the villas pool! Don’t hesitate to book this you will most definitely not be disappointed!

Villa Dora is located in the market town of Ponte Moriano which is just 15 minutes drive from the walled city of Lucca. The town offers a chemist, post office, two banks, two very good eating places, an ice cream bar and food shops. Less then 5 minute drive away is a very large supermarket. On Tuesday morning there is a market in the piazza selling fresh fish, local cheeses, fresh vegetables and clothes. The city of Lucca is mostly pedestrianised, which is fantastic for cycling and walking. Most guests enjoy cycling round the ramparts of the city wall. The countryside north of Lucca is breathtaking with many medieval villages perched on wooded hillsides. There are many beautiful palazzos and vineyards to visit in the area. Florence, Pisa and the beaches are all within a short distance. There are excellent restaurants, including a Michelin star, within 10 minutes of the house. The Tuscan ski resort of Abetone is only 1hour away and has generally excellent snow from January to March.
