Tavneena House Revisited
TAVNEENA REVISITED APRIL 2012
Tavneena is not 'Brideshead' of the famous book, but for me, returning
to it after a very long absence was an unique experience. It was my
home until I was 18 years of age, and my entire universe for most of
that time! I know I am prejudiced, but for anyone who wants to get
away to a quiet holiday in the country, while still within reach of
the main attractions of the West, it is ideal.
The house is very comfortable, bright, and spacious; well equipped
with all the necessary appliances throughout. If you like an open
fire, there is plenty of turf, and there is good reception for TV.
The front garden is ideal for barbecues or just relaxing in the sun.
The country air is filled with the smell of honeysuckle, new-mown hay,
and turf fires.
The only sounds to disturb you are those of the cuckoo, the curlew, a
cock crowing, or a dog barking in the distance.
The proprietress, Marion, lives at a short distance, and is very
thoughtful and accommodating - milk in the fridge when you arrive -
turf fires set, and the house well heated - just to mention two
things!! She is familiar with the area, and can advise on places to
visit. She will ensure that your stay will be as enjoyable as
possible.
I love to think that my old home can give joy to visitors - and I hope
that many will make it their base for visiting the west of Ireland.
You will not be disappointed.
