RESTORED CASA WITH LARGE GARDEN AND PRIVATE POOL IN HILLTOP BORGO.

Licciana Nardi House Rental Photos and Description

2 double bedroms, both ensuite, large open dining/living area. Private terrace

Casa D'alloro has two beautifully appointed double bedrooms, both en-suite. One has an outstanding view over the chestnut swathed foothills of the Apuan Alps. A fully equipped kitchen includes dishwasher and microwave, while the lounge area also has those spectacular views down the valley towards the Magra river.

Breakfast on the terrace in the cool shade watching the butterflies and listening to the crickets. Evening in the warm sun watching the shadows lengthen. Then the fire flies appear below in the garden flitting from the bushes to the fruit trees. As it gets darker the sky lights up with a million stars so bright without florescent lights and you can hear the owls over the valley and even the rustling in the bushes of the wild deer or maybe even the chingale wild boar so prized by the locals. Far away towards Aulla just a few lights twinkle in tiny villages like ours and above Licciana is the faint orange glow of the cemetery...... this is Lunigiana........

Outdoor Pool - our new in ground pool( 8m x 4m) has just been completed. Roman steps lead into the pool to give easy access for all ages. The pool is 1.25m deep..perfect for adults to do easy lengths and shallow enough for kids 7 and over to be able to stop for a breather. The location is amazing with views far down over the valley.

Local attractions 1: Lucca - 1 hr 10 mins - Provincial capital with intact Renaissance walls. Do not miss the oval Piazza Antiteatro right in the centre which has some of the original arches still in place. This is the birthplace of Giacomo Puccici the famous composer and there is a summer music festival held which has included Eric Clapton, Burt Bacharach, Anastasia and Moby. At nearby Torre del Lago there is a Puccini festival every July/ August.

Potovenere/Cinque Terra - 55 mins - World Heritage Site. Picturesque town on the Gulf of Poets with great seafood trattorias where you can catch the ferry to the 5 villages of the Cinque Terra. Over the centuries terraces have been constructed on the steep hillsides to cultivate vines and olives. No cars can reach the villages and the inhabitants are proud of protecting their way of life.

Eating out - possibly our favourite activity... huge choice from 12 euro local lunches of fresh mountain produce to the more expensive but superb restaurants around Lerici.

Local attractions 2: Lerici/San Terenzo - 35 mins - beautiful typical seaside resort that hasn't changed much over the years due to strict planning regulations. Dominated by its castle, it also has a small fish market right on the harbour. There is a small public beach that is shallow and safe for kids. Great ice cream parlours and restaurants. You can also get the ferry to Portovenere across the bay.

Sarzana - 30 mins - beautiful centro storico with large piazza and marble Gothic cathedral dating from 1355. Some lovely restaurants and ice cream parlours. Huge antiques market every month.

Parma - 1 hr 30 mins - world famous for Proscuitto di Parma, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, architecture and one of the oldest universities in the world. Easy to visit and to park in and amazing food. Many beautiful Romanesque churches and lovely gardens around the Ducal Palace.

for more info please see casadalloro.com and baccana on facebook

more info.....: Hill walking - directly from Casa D'alloro there are endless spectacular marked hill walks in the Apuan Alps. Wild boar roam the mountains and all the locals search for fungi the day after rain.

Water Parks -There are two water parks within easy reach, one at Villafranca in Lunigiana and one close to Fivizziano.

Karting - there is an outdoor kart track between Lerici and Boco di Magra and a world championship track at Parma just 1 hour drive.

Opera - just one hour from Torre di Lago to experience Puccini where it was written. Book early in the season to ensure you get a seat.

Shopping - Forti dei Marmi is just down the autostrada where you can enjoy the passegata with the locals browsing Tods, Prada, Hogan, Dolce e Gabbana before stopping for your appertivo....it has to be a Prosecco......

Adventure park - parco 100 aventure is the summer activity at the Prato Spilla ski resort. A challenging adventure set high in the chestnut trees caters for 6 to 76 year olds.....

We've just returned from a very peaceful week and cannot recommend Casa Dalloro highly enough.

The property is authentic; it has wonderful character. The views are incomparable and from the pool it's just beautiful. Our young children (5 and 1.5 years) loved exploring the garden, meeting the local dogs/ cats and goat and swinging in the hammocks. Our eldest also made friends with a little Italian girl. It was lovely to see that language is no barrier and that hopscotch is fun in any country!

The owner, Mark, was a pleasure to deal with throughout offering helpful information at any time.

We would happily return!

A fabulous week. Found it difficult to leave, wished we'd gone for two weeks. Such a quiet location, no tourists, just the sound of the children playing in the pool! Tiny village, so pretty with little pathways around derelict houses, with the occasional old lady greeting you as you passed! Friendly locals, who gave us tomatoes and herbs. Tiny shop in Crespiano, with all the basics including good wine for less than 2 euros!!
Day at Lerici was great - crowded beach but warm safe sea, little shops and restaurants, and another great day on the crowded and hot boat trip to Cinque Terre. Worth it for the lovely lunch overlooking a tiny harbour. But both days made us glad that we weren't staying with all the other tourists in crowded towns, and we found it hard to leave the peace and quiet of the village on all other days.
Suprised by how untouristy the area was, very little in the way of cafes/restaurants in the nearby towns. But added to the peace and charm of the area.
Perfect location for chilling and de-stressing.
Owner's Response: many thanks Linda. glad you enjoyed your stay. every time we go out to casa dalloro we seem to find new places to eat..the Italians are very good at hiding their restaurants..during the week workers lunch for 10-12 euro is usually good.. i am working on an app (search appcatch then casa dalloro) to list all the local eateries we have been to and other useful things you might need to know while staying at casa dalloro..hopefully this will help.

We loved it all: The house, the location, the new pool, the mountains, the friendly locals who didn't mind we didn't understand italian, the mozarella cheese, tomatos, olive oil, wine, plums in the garden and wild boar eating plums in the evening. Perfect holiday!

Peace and Tranquilty in Rural Tuscany

We are two couples and initially, we had chosen this appartment because it offered us the rarity of two bedrooms, both with a double bed and en-suite . However, we also wanted to stay in a place which offered us a glimpse of the real Tuscany, away from all the tourist areas.
We were not disappointed. Baccana fulfilled all these expectations - and more.
We were captivated by its location. As we sat on the terrace, wine in hand, watching the wonderful sunsets that gradually gave way to the tranquility of an evening silence - only broken by the occasional call of the owls - we really envied Mark for his 'find'!
The interior of the property has been sympathetically restored with stylish, high standard fixtures and fittings. It was fully equipped to a level well beyond that of a normal 'holiday let' and importantly, the good quality king-sized beds, bedding and pillows were very comfortable.
From our initial enquiry onwards, and particularly when, through unforseen circumstances, we needed to change all our holiday dates, the owner, Mark, was friendly, very patient and accommodating. He also furnished us with his tried-and-tested eating places, favourite beaches, 'must see' locations and mountain trails.
We loved the sheltered Lerici beach; we would advise everyone to visit the Carrara marble quarries and mine (the Marmo tour) and we enjoyed our taster visits to Florence, Pisa, Forte dei Marmi and Sarzano. Then on the way home, we would stop off to buy seafood or fish for the BBQ.
We all love Italian food and the Lunigniana cooking is delicious. There was a wide choice of authentic local regional restaurants and Agriturismo but we would especially recommend the nearbye restored monastery of Montagne Verde, where we had an incredible Sunday Lunch on the terrace. It took three hours and to our delight, all the water, and as much wine as we wanted, was included in the set price.

If you looking to stay in a bustling resort, Baccana is not for you, If, however, you are looking for a character property set in tranquil surroundings, with stunning views, which also provides an easily accessible base for exploring Tuscany, then Baccana is an ideal and unique choice.

We all loved it. Tricia and Jean-Claude; Lynn and Michael

My Week In Casa D'alloro

My Week In Casa D'alloro

  • Submitted: Nov 4, 2010

We looked forward with much excitement to our trip to Italy. We had many questions about staying in Baccana and Mark Carson patiently answered every one before our arrival. We chose Casa D'alloro because of one picture we saw on the Internet. We saw that someone had created a place that was quite unique, we didn't realize how unique until we saw it for ourselves. With directions in hand we rented a car in Pisa and found ourselves on a quiet winding road leading up the mountain to Baccana. A wonderful lady, Antonella Visconti, was there awaiting us with the key. Then we stepped into another world, a world that time seemingly had passed by. We walked through the stone village to our destination. Despite the antiquity of the village and Casa D'alloro, the restoration has been accomplished with luxury, every modern need met without losing an 'old world' feel. There are few people living there, we often felt we were there alone but were gifted with occasional chats with the residents...even though we don't speak Italian! Our plan was to stay in Tuscany for one week and visit many places surrounding the area. However, once we got there we didn't want to leave. We did eventually go to Florence, just a train ride away and other places. All answers to our questions were just a phone call away to Antonella.

Casa D'alloro is exactly as the pictures showed, so much so that we felt we were home, our only regret being that we didn't stay longer. We were in Italy for 3 weeks and should have stayed at least 2 weeks in the Casa.

Our favorite places to eat were Galetti in Crespiano (where they make their own wine) and Agritourismo Montagna Verde in Taponecco, a wonderful renovated monastery. I've never eaten so much food!

We were fortunate to be able to meet the man who did the restoration work and enjoyed his company thoroughly.

I recommend this vacation spot to anyone who is tired of 'the same ole thing.' I've never seen nor heard of a place that can compare with Casa D'alloro and Baccana.

Thank you Willa and Mark.

Welcome to Casa D'alloro and find out why George Clooney has swapped a villa on Lake Como for a country retreat in Lunigiana.... Set deep in the ancient territory of Lunigiana it is Tuscany before the huge influx of tourists. Restaruants are superb serving local produce from the mountains and the nearby Mediterranean sea at very reasonable prices. Beaches are shallow and safe, perfect for kids. You can take the ferry to the UNESCO coast of the Cinque Terra or take to the mountains for summer hiking, autumn mushroom hunting and winter skiing. The beautiful cities of Lucca, Parma and Florence are an easy drive or train journey or you can soak up the style of Portofino and shop in the designer boutiques of Forti Dei Marmi.

Casa D'alloro has two beautifully appointed double bedrooms, both en-suite. One has an outstanding view over the chestnut swaithed foothills of the Apuan Alps. A fully equipped kitchen includes dishwasher and microwave, while the lounge area also has those spectacular views over the private pool and down the valley towards the Magra river.

Other Activities: skiing just 27km from house. porcini mushrooms in local woods with licence

Ski: Cerreto Laghi - is the major ski resort of the region with 28 km of challenging slopes, a snow park, ski school with travelator and snow making facilities. Piste 2 has FIS approval and hosts slalom races during the season. The instructors say that if you can ski Monte Nuda you are then able to ski anywhere in the Alps.... There is also a cross-country course and an Olympic size ice rink. Around the lake are great value hotels and restaurants, ski hire shops and delicatessens selling local and regional produce and there are some exclusive ski wear and clothes shops specializing in Moncler, Timberland and Geox. There are rarely long queues for the modern lift system, every one is very friendly and the instructors at the ski school are superb and really great value. (28 euro for private 1 on 1 lesson).

Prato Spilla is closer though is a much smaller resort with around 12km of runs which are less challenging than Cerreto but equally great value and very friendly. 15 euro day pass .
