UNIQUE AND FUN THINGS TO DO IN THIS TROPICAL VACATION PARADISE:

We provide a great guest binder in the villa with information about activities and with menus from the great local restaurants.

- Visit the world famous Venice Audubon Rookery where herons, egrets and other birds nest. 8 miles away, free. Peak Season is Winter/Spring. Google 'Venice Audubon Rookery'

- Scuba Dive off of Venice Beach for fossil sharks' teeth including huge Megalodon teeth and other fossils. You can go right in from the shore. 4 miles away. Or go out on a Florida West Scuba School charter boat that will put you right on the best spots. You can also get quickly certified and do your training dives right from the beach where the sharks' teeth are. Visibility is best in April, May & June but divers go year round. Google 'Florida West Scuba School'

-- Enjoy the drum circles at Nokomis Beach every Wednesday and Saturday 1 hour before Sunset. 1/2 mile away. Google 'Nokomis Beach Drum Circle'

-- Go Kayaking with any of several local outfitters. Take a tour, a class, rent a kayak or go to a free kayak demonstration day to try paddling many models for free. You can also rent Kayaks and Canoes at Myakka River State Park and canoes at Oscar Scherer State Park mentioned below. Google 'economy tackle kayak' or 'grande tours placida'

-- Visit Myakka River State Park and walk thru the tree tops on one of the world's few canopy walks. They also have tours on the world's largest airboat for up close views of alligators and other wildlife (airboat tour is $10) 20 miles away. Admission to the State Park is $5 per carload. Google 'Myakka River State Park'

-- Ride a bicycle or walk along our newly completed trails: the Venetian Waterway Park in Venice (10 miles of paved trail along both sides of the intercoastal waterway) and the 12 Mile Legacy Trial from Venice to Sarasota. A trailhead is less than 2 miles away. Google 'Sarasota Legacy Trail' and 'Venetian Waterway Park'

-- Great Fishing and Golfing is plentiful and well known to those who enjoy those sports. The Venice Jetty Fish Camp (1.5 miles away) sells live bait shrimp before dawn to those wishing to fish early.

-- See the threatened Florida Scrub Jay in the wild at Oscar Scherer State Park, just 3 1/2 miles away. You are virtually guaranteed to see them if you go on the ranger led nature walk at 8:30am Sundays January thru March. Other walks are at 8am Thursdays, 8:30am Fridays and there are guided canoe tours Wednesdays at 8:30am. Google 'Oscar Scherer State Park'

-- Take a unique 90 minute tour of Venice waterways and streets in 'Just Ducky', an amphibious vehicle. 2 miles away. It's a boat tour and land tour in one! Google 'Nokomis Just Ducky'

-- Eat Grouper sandwiches and other great local seafood at Pelican Alley, Pop's Sunset Grill, Captain Eddie's and Briandi's, all less than 3 miles from your front door.

-- Visit Mote Marine Aquarium in Sarasota and learn about the sea turtles that nest on Nokomis Beach and other area beaches from May to October. 20 miles away. Google 'Mote Marine'

-- Enjoy a cheap thrill at the Greyhound track. 21 miles away. Google 'Sarasota Kennel Club'

-- Explore the area beaches in addition to the one down the street. You can find fossil shark's teeth on the beach at Caspersen in Venice and see the spectacular and famous white sand of Siesta Beach in Sarasota. Google 'Sarasota County Beaches'

LOVED IT

  • 5 of 5
My husband & I came down in May for a vacation. I had waited until the last minute to find a place. Owners were great about letting us rent the place without much notice.
It was very well stocked with everything you might need. I would stay there again. My husband likes finding sharks teeth at Nokomis & Manasota.

VERY QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD

  • 4 of 5
For the most part the manager/owner did not give us any bad information. He told us it was quiet and this pace is ideal for 55 and over. The property was clean, well maintained and exactly what the photos showed.
The manager/owner was very helpful whenever we call on him and his response was very quick.
The biggest problem we had was with the furniture and TV's. The furniture was wicker outdoor type that was very uncomfortable and the TV's were very old. we had to rent furniture and TV's. we were told that problem would be fixed soon. Also there were no cleaning supplies for the bathrooms nor a vacuum cleaner.
I would recommend this rental for people over 55 with pets.

Owner's Response: Hi Jack, Thanks you for your 4 star rating. We are happy you enjoyed your stay in this beautiful area. Unfortunately I think your review gives a little bit of a misleading impression to other prospective guests so I have to address some of the things you said.

As far as the 3 recliners and 1 TV you rented, we did not know about this until I saw the truck taking them away 2 days before the end of your 60 day stay. If we had known, we would have obtained more comfortable chairs for you, just as we got a new gas grill for you on the 3rd day of your stay. You came to the premises months before your stay and saw the furniture and the TVs before you made the reservation. At that time, neither of us knew the wicker chairs would not be comfortable enough for a two month stay. You were only the fourth set of guests to ever rent this unit and the first three didn't say anything about the chairs not being comfortable enough. Once you told us, we replaced the wicker chairs with a love seat and a recliner the day you left. Because people were arriving that day, March 1, we have not yet had a chance to update the photos in the listing. The wicker furniture became extra lanai furniture, although I do not believe the wicker furniture was originally outdoor furniture. As far as the vacuum cleaner, we brought you a modern vacuum in good working condition the 2nd day of your stay. When you left, it was in a closet with a completely severed cord. By "very old" TVs, what you mean is that we do not supply flat screen HD TVs. This is true. We supply the TVs shown in the photos and that you saw before you rented. We supply large tube TVs that would formerly have been considered high end TVs. These are TVs from right before flat screens. They have DVD inputs, etc. They are not ancient or deficient. The reason for this is that we have to consider the summer guests with families, and large flat screens are more easily knocked over or damaged. All in all these are fairly minor matters, which I think accounts for the fact you gave us 4 stars.
