Essaouira Region: Essaouira is a historic, walled town and an Atlantic coast UNESCO World Heritage Site, just a few hours west of Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains. The bohemian town where Jimi Hendrix liked to hang out is a perfect spot to unwind, eat great seafood and absorb the laidback and atmospheric scene.
To the west of the Medina the rampart walls and fortifications drop directly into the Atlantic with a picturesque fishing port filled with bright blue boats, while a few minutes walk from the main square, the wide beach curves around the bay.
One of the few places in Morocco to be popular in the summer months as the Atlantic breeze ensures that the temperatures rarely stray past 35 degrees, almost year round blue sky's ensure a wonderful trip whatever the season. However, low season is commonly thought of as November to February when the nights can be cold and the weather more unpredictable.
Ancient Medina: THE MEDINA - Designed in the mid 1700’s by a French architect, the medina is an intriguing fusion of French-style piazzas with traditional subterranean passages, vaulted alleys and traditional courtyard houses. Its whitewashed buildings, with ornate doorways and windows painted blue to match the sky, are enclosed by intact pink fortifications. Packed with shops and stalls selling handicrafts, jewellery, spices, leather goods and the famous local argon oil it is the ideal place to while away the hours, before relaxing at one of the numerous cafe's or enjoying a massage at a local hammam.
THE PORT & THE RAMPARTS - Skala de la ville is the impressive sea bastion built along the cliffs. Its is home to a collection of European brass cannons from the 18th and 19 th centuries and has great views out to sea.
