A month of "la dolce vita"
A month of "la dolce vita"
We recently returned from a month's stay in Alessia's lovely apartment. We were two couples (60 +) and wanted enough space for everyone to be comfortable and have their privacy.
We were quite charmed with apartment and found it provided just what we needed. It's on the top fl.(6th) with a 4 pax lift. There are 3 comfortable bedrooms, (1 with ensuite bath with handheld shower) and 2 more bathrooms, one with regular shower and the other a half bath.
The kitchen is very functional and pleasant and had everything we needed. The washer is located in the kitchen, but no clothes dryer (a rare bird anywhere in Italy), but the clothesline on the rooftop is easily accessible and this upper terrace/rooftop is pretty much for the exclusive use of this apartment. There is no furniture on the rooftop but I would recommend a visit for the comprehensive views. I had really wanted an accessible, functional terrace and was concerned this would be a disappointment, but as it turned out, we didn't miss it and enjoyed our views from the windows.
There is a spacious living room area and a separate cozy sitting room with a flat screened tv, however, no english speaking programs. There is wifi but it works only in the living and sitting room areas(no kitchen or bedroom access), but this was not a problem for us.
The views of St Peter's, both day and evening, were magical and definitely a big plus. The area of Risorgemento is busy and noisy, but VERY convenient to shopping, restaurants; bus and tram transportation are literally out the door or a 5 minute walk to the metro. With the windows closed, the noise level was fine, and with the windows open, we came to regard it as a fun part of the Italian lifestyle and our experience, and became somewhat oblivious to it
We walked, when at all possible (Spanish Steps/Campo De Fiori, Pantheon is very doable) and, of course, the Vatican is 5 minutes away, so there were many evening strolls to St. Peter's Square, after a visit to "Old Bridge", literally "the best" gelateria in Rome and just across the street from the apartment. The gelato was fabulous ( and after many trips to Italy, I consider myself somewhat of an expert) and the portion for the smallest size and price (1.50 euro) is huge. It is also a Rick Steve's recommendation. St. Peter's in the evening is fabulous when the crowds have dispersed. Alessia could not have been more accommodating and helpful to our needs and requests and we were very happy with our choice.
